Menopause is said to be caused by low estrogen, but taking estrogen comes with side effects! Estrogen hormone therapy side effects include:
•Breast cancer
•Endometrial cancer
•Clots
•Increased risk of stroke
•Gallstones
•Fluid retention
•Increased triglycerides
•Increased risk for cardiovascular problems
Not only does hormone therapy cause dangerous side effects, but menopausal women are also put on medications to treat the following menopause symptoms:
•Hot flashes
•Weight gain/visceral fat
•Mood swings
•Joint pain
•Low libido
•Bone loss
•Muscle loss
•High blood pressure
These medications also come with dangerous side effects!
During menopause, estrogen drops significantly, and women stop releasing eggs. This occurs around age 52 for most women. This affects the hypothalamus, which controls the body’s thermostat, body weight, appetite, and energy levels. Other hormones, such as progesterone and testosterone, also decrease.
If you have low vitamin D or insulin resistance, you are more likely to experience hot flashes during menopause.
Estrogen plays a vital role in protecting beta cells and maintaining insulin sensitivity. It controls inflammation and regulates the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Surprisingly, estrogen plays a vital role in the activation of vitamin D and the function of the vitamin D receptor.
The most important way to address menopause symptoms is to fix insulin resistance. Menopausal signs and symptoms can also be addressed with the following:
•Vitamin D3 (20,000 IU daily) taken with magnesium and vitamin K2
•Natural remedies: Soy isoflavones, resveratrol, black cohosh, red clover
•Align your schedule with light and dark, increase morning sun exposure
•Try progesterone creams
•Try melatonin for sleep
If you’ve tried everything, testosterone pellets may be a good option to address your menopause symptoms.

The physical therapy workers don’t like YouTube videos. They told me do not look at anything on YouTube about physical therapy and I found that the physical therapist on YouTube are better and different from the local ones. Just like learning about health and weight loss from YouTube I am proud of myself, I love keto fasting, learning something new about health and vitamins and nutrients, etc. Without having YouTube and learning from the best of the best. I wouldn’t be alive. Thank God for everything. 410lbs down to 208 today. 💯 🔥 Keto fasting 💪 👑

Great, keep it up
Can you reach out to tell me what you did in detail, thank you congratulations on your journey you’re Alsome I hope to do same with a guide
Keto changed my life 8 years ago. Yes, I’m more dirty keto now, but still maintaining low carbs and ALWAYS FASTING!
Congratulations 🎉😊

Ditching sugar was the best decision I ever made! My health and wellbeing have never been better. 💚
Yes!! Me too!!
How do you completely avoid sugar? Can you share a meal plan?
That’s awesome, I’m so happy for you!
sugar. caffeine and junk processed foods . 😮
@msbuttercup2073 stop processed foods. sugar is in all processed foods. eat whole foods. raw veggies and fruits and clean meats.
I am 54yrs old, been on keto diet for about 6yrs now and did not have any of those menopause issues like other women. Funny thing…It wasn’t till I heard other women complaining that I realized that it was cuz of my diet. Love keto.
Same
🤚 Same here! Whole foods low-carb with IF eliminated all of my peri-menopause symptoms. Now in my mid-50s, I still have no menopause symptoms, and I’m enjoying the best health of my adult life! ❤
While I’m not strictly keto but low carb and no sugar foods (nor adding it). I had none of these problems either.
Not necessarily. Everyone is different

Absolutely!!!
Vitamin D carnivore and movement made all the difference. Mom told me when she was going through it 40 years ago. She cut sugar and walked and her weight went down and her mood went up. I know I was there.
Yes Yes!!🎉
I tried carnivore for 8 months and gained 3 pounds of the 80 pounds I needed to lose and the inflammation stopped for a while but came right back. Everyone is different. I wish it had worked at that time.
@@deedeeastendoes she do strict carnivore. I’m thinking about doing it as well . I follow a lady named Bella and she goes by the Steak and Butter gal . Her story is amazing ❤
@@vs0063-Val When you start a carnivore diet and don’t lose weight right away — or even gain some — it often means your body is prioritizing internal healing over fat loss. Hormonal balance, inflammation, and tissue repair take time. Everybody responds differently, and each person’s carnivore experience is unique.
@@vs0063-Val 7 months here.. also gained weight but it was 35 pounds.. after I also lost around 80 and the disaster pants never stopped. I kinda wish there was a way to do a high dairy sort of weight loss diet. The only dairy I really don’t like is stinky cheese.
I just turned 50, and menopause is nothing like I thought. it is much worse. I hate the way I feel. I don’t feel like the same person.

Are you for real?
Our life expectancy was half of what it is now so we wouldn’t even be here!
Why be so spiteful and lacking in empathy.
If nothing useful to say, don’t say anything at all.
I felt awful for 5 years. Finally gave up and started bio identical HRT. Best decision I ever made.
I understand how you feel. I know exactly what you describe.
I’m 50 next year, but went through menopause at 26.
It had a catastrophic effect on my life and my well being.
I know why its called ‘the change’.
It changes everything.
Try HRT. It will control some symptoms.
Hope you have a loving support system.
I had no problem. I don’t eat sugar, low carb, no processed food and I sailed right through.
I love Dr Berg but not on menopause.
My Vit D was high. I was on keto, i was fasting. I did meditation, long walks. No processed food. I eat organic vegetables from my garden, grass finished beef from a local rancher.
My hba1c is 4.2. I wear a cgm. I have had IR but its under control because i don’t eat carbs. My d levels are around 70ng, which is a good level. K2 and magnesium, i take iodine. I get morning sunlight. I tried taking all the supplements. And yet, i was not feeling well. Only hrt helped.
30% of women make enough estradiol at the tissue level so they don’t struggle with menopause.
Certainly, do all the things, you can improve symptoms but you are not replacing missing hormones. It’s not a magic bullet either. I do everything and i take estrafiol, progesterone and testosterone replacement. T pellets are way too much. You are better off looking at info from Dr mary claire haver. She is not good wrt diet. Get that from dr berg.
I agree with you. Dr. Berg is great but not on menopause issues. I wish he had talked about the WHI study. I follow Drs. Felice Gersch, Barbara Taylor ( aka Menopause Taylor) and Marie Claire Haver. I also wish he had addressed the importance of estrogen on heart, bone and brain health
100%. I went to get all 3 levels checked and all were almost at 0! HRT saved me!
Yes, he never mentioned iodine.
I thank GOD for HRT. I could not function for 2 years before I started. I had so much vitamin D i was told to stop supplementing because I was working at a plant nursery and outside a lot. I was post menopausal by 43, the way I felt the last thing I wanted was to extend that life. I use the pellets for T and Estrogen and take Progesterone orally. I am not giving it up, I had every symptom and felt miserable. I couldnt function cried all the time. I was already doing magnesium and malantonin so kudos if that works for you but women shouldn’t be shamed for seeking help for this.
I agree with u
67, last period at 57. No menopause symptoms. Been on basic Keto for 20 years due to autoimmune Hashimoto’s, which I took care of with my diet and lifestyle. Hormones are the strongest things on the planet, got to be careful taking them. Many women I know end up with breast cancer from the miss use of hormones. Thank you for the video Dr Berg!
I eat healthy have exercise all my life not overweight and I experienced excruciating menopause issues so just because you didn’t experience them on your on a keto diet means nothing it’s all genetics it depends on how your mother your grandmother were some women experience them horrifically some don’t you were just one of the lucky ones
@@madelyn6404 💯 I have exercised all my life. I felt so bad I didn’t even want to exercise prior to bio HRT.
@KAPhelps some women that ended up having breast cancer were due to using the wrong kind of hormones! There are many factors that come into play when developing breast cancer… go follow the menopause Drs. like Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Dr. Kelly Casperson, Dr. Rachel Rubin, Dr. Vonda Wright if interested.
@@madelyn6404Agree 💯💯💯
I highly recommend reading the book Estrogen Matters by Dr Avrum Blumming, he’s an Oncologist and his wife had breast cancer. BioIdentical Estrogen is nothing like conventional doctors believe. This comes from a totally flawed Hormone study called the WHI in 2002.
If you are a husband and you see the hell your wife is going thru during menopause and you can’t help her it sucks for both. Thank you for the important video.
❤❤❤❤ you are a great guy, John!!
That’s why she started HRT and it’s been life changing.
Andropause is nearly as bad for a lot of men as well! A topic that doesn’t get discussed enough and is so critical.
Aww, John. ♥️
@@athens31415 actually, menopause is far worse than andropause. Andropause is discussed way more leaving women out to suffer. Women’s hormones are far more complicated.
I went to menopause at age of 38. Prior to that always had healthy life style, exercising, whole foods…I have tried all the natural remedies and nothing worked. Currently, I am on bio identical HRT and that significantly changed the quality of my life.
💯 it saved me too.
Me too❤
It has to be bioidentical!
Bio is where it’s at. Im not on estrogen, but i am on progesterone and testosterone. World of difference.
Same . I know the risks , however when you’re alone & have no other help you can’t afford to be rotting in bed all day while your cat dog and family are wondering what’s wrong with you.
Same! Hysterectomy at 38. Now 51. Keto for years so no hot flashes, but the bone pain started in and was excruciating and last year the dr told me I was post menopause. Estradiol was 8! Ovaries finally quit! Started bhrt and the improvements are ten fold! ❤
I’ve been eating primarily whole foods low-carb with IF for almost six years … now in my mid-50’s, I don’t have any menopause symptoms at all. Looking back, I realize I was beginning to get the belly fat, brain fog, insomnia, and mood swings of peri-menopause in my late 40’s. Since overhauling my diet, I have NONE of that. Also, no hot flashes, no hair loss, no unexplained aches and pains, no energy crashes, and I don’t take meds of any kind. Reducing processed foods, grains, sugar/sweeteners, and seed oils has been absolutely life-changing. ❤
I didn’t have any symptoms that I even started menopause. I thought I was safe. What I didn’t know is that heart plaque has been growing. Osteoporosis, as well. These are silent. My body fat is 18% because I eat so clean. Didn’t matter. Get hormone replacement. Don’t be me.
@@DianneElizabeth64 Just curious how you define “eating clean”? Can you elaborate?
I’m similar to Dianne, super healthy eater, keto, organic, no seed oils, etc. I exercise and have been taking vit D for at least 10 years, plus other supplements.. I was fine during initial menopause phase when estrogen dropped just enough to stop my period (age 52 for me). I thought,, “hooray, I’m good because I do all the right things”. Then a year later my estrogen dropped 80% within 6 months! That was when life got brutal. I tried phytoestrogens, increasing magnesium,, was taking like 15 supplements a day! It did nothing. I was a mess, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t work, etc, so I started HRT (estradiol + progesterone)
Keep in mind that loss of estrogen isn’t just about hot flashes. Low estrogen causes bone loss. dementia, heart disease, arthritis, increased risk of cancers, etc.
Estrogen receptors are in every organ, including the brain.
Estrogen therapy/HRT doesn’t increase breast cancer, that’s been debunked. Most women need to increase estrogen post menopause to have a better quality of life as they age. It’s not just about hot flashes. Even the cellulite went away, muscle tone came back, belly fat went away. Yes, follow Mindy Pelz and fast like a girl, etc (who by the way is now taking estrogen since she’s starting her menopause years, so if Mindy’s had a change of heart, well that says something.
Find a good HRT doctor, and do your research. We’re still in the dark ages when it comes to menopause. Felice Gersh has a very informed podcast.
I am carnivore with all grassfed and finished meat, pasture raised eggs and wild caugh salmon…..and have peri, it is horrid. I also fast 18 to 20 hours per day and am 112 lbs.

I have been on HRT for over a year and I was already doing a lot of what Dr Berg recommended here. My symptoms became overwhelming. So eventually I think your body just needs some estrogen. Middle aged women will never go back to reproductive levels. BUT!! Static dose of HRT (in the patch form) each wk has been a game changer. The coroner will be peeling the estradiol patch off my dead body, I’m never going off HRT.
I can affirm. Ate healthy most of my life, exercising and sudden trauma caused havoc in my body and menopause at 52. Starting researching HRT and bio-identical hormones. Bio-identical did not help as much as HRT patches! Made a huge difference. There are now well researched papers and drs like Dr Louise Newson and many others who explains the benefits of HRT. I think everyone’s body is different, like our fingerprints 😊. Dr Bergh’s work is also of great benefit.
Same!!
This makes me so happy and proud!!! I am 60 and went through menopause over ten years ago. At the age of 50, I started eating a very strict Paleo diet, and found relief. But the carbs were making me gain weight… so I switched to a keto diet. It’s been incredibly beneficial… but I did not know about vitamin D. I’ll have to add a bit more. I’m outside every day… but winter in Ohio doesn’t allow for a lot of skin exposure.
Long story short, I’ve eliminated 15 prescription medications and have never taken HRT. I have zero menopause symptoms like brain fog, vaginal dryness (feel like I’m 25), no itching, hot flashes or low-libido! I know it’s my diet. No one believes me.
Thanks for this confirmation Dr. Berg.
Sounds good! How low do you keep your carbs?
yeah, that’s another thing. got my vit D tested and was told level was too high. Stopped to keep him happy then leg cramps came back with a vengeance. Got back on it.
Also had to add more potassium to my diet. Imagine feeling better……
I’m happy that it’s working for you , but without HRT our declining hormones we age from the insides , it effects our brain it actually shrinks due to low estrogen and it protects our bones and heart , this is what HRT does for us , I can only speak for myself , since being on HRT I get no hot flashes and I sleep like a baby now , I want my insides to benefit from HRT cause without it we age …
@@rosalia6119your hrt is it bio identical made in a compound pharmacy or is it synthetic versions that are made I would be very interested to know
If a women lacks estrogen she is at risk for heart attack, oteoporosis and alzheimers. I wish doctors would stop scaring women about risks of taking hrt. Please, please go to Menopause Taylor’s Menopause University to learn EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING you need to know about menopause. She is a doctor that specializes in that and has been through it herself.
I love Menopause Barbie!!
I know everything I need to know. I didn’t take this and I fixed my own problems with bone loss using natural medicine. I was told I couldn’t and said to myself, “Watch Me” I’ve had a few bad falls, never broke anything.
Is it scaring women to hear the risks of hrt? Personally, I would want to know all the risks rather than just blindly assume they are okay.
@@catitude4What did you use?
@GingerMomster82 Think about it. When you start losing estrogen, it makes sense to add it back in little by little. You still have some its just diminishing. Risks come when a woman is post menopausal, say for 10 or so and then goes to add in hormone replacement therapy. At that time it is foreign to your body, thereby causing the risks that doctors tell you right off the bat when you’re nearly losing your mind with the horrible symptoms of peri-menopause and go to them for relief. They don’t know. It is an area of women’s healthcare that has been severely, severely neglected for far too long, forcing women to do hours of research just to get some relief. It is saddening that the misinformation doctors give is causing women to go years and years without a good quality of life.
All this time I thought I was spontaneously combusting… turns out my internal thermostat is just deeply connected to insulin resistance and vitamin D. 🤯 Mind blown! Thanks Doc!
Right
Glad you did not catch fire!!(it happens)😂
I fooled around with diet, herbs and vitamins with zero relief. I switched to bioidentical estrogen replacement for 39 years now. It saves my life everyday. No hot flashes, no insomnia, no mood changes, no cancer of any kind, strong bones, highly recommend the natural replacement.
I’m on HRT . On perimenopause I was bleeding so badly my iron tanked & my mood in my luteal phase fell off a cliff . I was highly symptomatic & bed bound , crying all the time for no reason . Hair falling out & craving things I’d never imagine eating since my normal way of eating is whole food low carb . Literally no energy low mood and started getting fat .
9 weeks into HRT I’m like a new person . Progesterone helped suppress the insane periods which are still every 19-21 days but they’re not debilitating blood dumps anymore .
Vastly improved sleep & mood is off the chart 📈 happy . My vitamin d is 72 . I tried every natural remedy I can think of to no avail .
I’m
More productive than I’ve been in years . Weight fell off appetite regulated . I will never go off HRT & I’ll take my chances . I went from bed bound and crying to back in the gym & stable mood .
Is it bio identical ? That’s what I do! I could not fathom life without it.
I’m happy for you , I’m debating bhrt . Just turned 47 or 48
Were you having all those symptoms even after giving up sugar and starches?😮
SAME! I have been on b-HRT for five years now and I feel AMAZING! I was able to get my vitamin D up to 150 by taking 20,000 iui’s every day. I’m also on keto with an occasional cheat day. I’m definitely not getting off of my b-HRT.💯
@@BetterLoveMovement thanks for sharing! What was your beginning blood Vit D level, and how long of taking 20,000 did it take to get up to 150ng/ml? And what is your dose now to maintain it at 150?
