Why do drugs like Ozempic cost $1500 in the U.S., but only $147 in Canada? Most people don’t know about the invisible middleman making more than 10 of the top drug companies combined.
Healthcare may seem like a broken system, but it’s actually not broken at all. It works great; it’s just not working for you. Pharmacy benefit managers use their contracts to make massive profits off of everyone.
PBMs may appear to be helpful. They negotiate lower prices for manufacturing companies, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, and handle logistics between employers and insurance companies.
Pharmacy benefit managers charge the employer a very high price and pay the pharmacies a very low price, pocketing the difference. This is known as spread pricing. PBMs decide which drugs your plan covers, how much you’ll pay out of pocket, which pharmacy you can use, and when or if you’ll get your medication.
Cheaper and better drugs are often denied if PBMs don’t get a big enough rebate. They can even force you to fill your prescriptions at specific PBM pharmacies for more profit.
Drug companies have to give PBMs a kickback or “rebate” to get their drugs covered by insurance companies. To afford this rebate, drug companies raise the list price, and PBMs promote the drug that gives them the most profit.
Pharmacy benefit managers own insurance companies and pharmacies. Three of the largest PBMs control 80% of the medications in the U.S. Surprisingly, PBMs don’t exist in other countries.

paying $1500 while your neighbor pays $147… I remember when I lived in an apartment and they guy across the hall told me their rent was a negative $127. Yes thats right he got paid to live there because the state paid more than the actual rent so he got the over payment refund every month. Mine was $1300. I guess I should have stayed home, slept in, smoked “cilantro” all day and drank all night. I could have got cheaper rent and not had to work so hard for the same place to live. Only in america can you break laws and be rewarded. 🤦🏻
You may have been misled by your neighbor about the purpose of the government benefit(s) he received. Your comment neglects to identify which benefit(s) he received. It’s not unusual for the Social Security retirement benefit or SSDI to exceed $1500/month, but the purpose of SS, SSDI, SSI, SNAP, and/or Energy Assistance isn’t to pay the rent.
What did you mean by “Mine was $1300.”
If you mean you received a $1300 rent subsidy, and that it was $327 less than a $1627 rent subsidy that your neighbor received, you should be consistent and say your rent was $200, not $1500. And you should explain how the amount of the $1300 was determined by the state.

Yes, investigate those prescriptions before filling anything. Most of that crap I never fill. My eye doctor prescribed some medication for glaucoma. It was killing my stomach, I heard they were getting rid of it. I told my doctor it was hurting my stomach so he doubled the dose. I stopped taking it, guess what, I could eat again and 12 years later my glaucoma is the same level.

$14k+ per month for cancer meds I “need” for the next 5-10 years … and I’m under 40 and self-identified the cancer early. I’m grateful I’m alive and hope to remain this way to see my grandkids, but the cost of meds is absolute insanity.

And what is also infuriating is that many medicines are prescribed and sold in the US are not even made in the US. So those jobs went away (or maybe were never ours to begin with), and the pharmaceutical companies do not have a great incentive to be on the up and up when it comes to quality and safety.

If one has pets never go vegan with them. Especially cats. Their systems are specialized, compared to dogs which boils down to: basically eat “anything that they can see as food”. Dogs live to eat, not eat to live in our society. 😢😮
Natural whole foods for pets too and dont give them veggies or grains, they never ate that junk naturally in wild, its why pets stay in their systm too.

This doctor needs to be cloned and put into every medical school to re-educate doctors with correct information about health. He is brilliant, and a gem of a person to anyone with common sense about how to improve their health in a sustained way.
