Please join me in welcoming endocrinologist Dr. Roshani Sanghani. Dr. Sanghani explains the different health problems in India, including insulin resistance, diabetes, fatty liver, and protruding bellies. These problems are starting to occur in young children—1 in 3 Indian children have high triglycerides and a fatty liver.
Endocrinologists do not focus on carbohydrates triggering insulin while in medical school. Dr. Sanghani tells us that she spent very little time on the lifestyle aspect of disease and much more time learning about prescriptions.
Dr. Sanghani explains that endocrinologists prescribe insulin according to the patient's carbohydrate intake. It finally dawned on her that by lowering the patient’s carbohydrate intake, they could lower their insulin. She traveled to India, determined to share this information with her patients.
India has been badly affected by low-fat, low-calorie dietary marketing. Dr. Sanghani explains a typical day of eating in the Indian diet consists of snacking, high carbohydrate intake, and very little protein.
Many Indians are vegetarian, making it very difficult for them to meet their protein requirements. Many Indian vegetarians are okay with dairy and consume yogurt, milk, and paneer cheese for protein. She also recommends whey protein for her vegetarian patients. Although not a whole food, it’s an ideal way for a vegetarian to increase their protein intake.
Some vegetarians are fine with adding eggs to their diet, although some are concerned about dietary cholesterol. There’s no proven link between dietary cholesterol and bad cholesterol in the blood. Tofu and tempeh are also protein options for vegetarians in India.
Dr. Sanghani helps her patients learn to read labels and understand the problem with processed grains and starches. She focuses on first increasing protein, then decreasing carbs while increasing salad intake.
Some of her patients wear continuous glucose monitors to understand the effects of carbohydrates.

Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed this interview with Dr. Roshani Sanghani. I’ll see you in the next video.
I love addressing the direct issue without feeling a need to be politically correct.
I think it comes down to wanting to genuinely help people and not come across xenophobic. And also having a indian person talk about it as well helps.
They need to eat animals
Agreed. Politically correct is actually incorrect and 😅 inherently racist
I do, too. It’s hits specifics to get to the point. He’s kept me alive for 2 years now. Doctors have no clue.
I agree. Call it straight and help people.
As a man with an Indian background, it comes down to a diet full of carbs that have been enriched with seed oils.
I like Chicken Biryani!
Totally agree. The indian wives have no healthy diet knowledge. They are thought to make rice roti daal no fresh veg. The veg they make is full of oil and cooked to their death. They don’t.listen to their husband and make no effort to improve their health. Despite them having all illness. Every celebration involves tons of suger sweets fried food and Surrey drinks.
Also v low animal protein.
+Sugar+Starches+Lack of Animal Protein Oh man! There you have the problem. India is the world’s most protein deficient country.
Kefir is very easily made once you get it started, you just us 2 tsp. of kefir from you product and add it to your new batch, set it out at room temperature for 36-48 hour, I use raw milk, but whole milk will work.
When my daughter was in Med school she minor in nutrition…. I believe that patient’s should educate themselves about nutrition….. Great info Dr’s.
They used to teach nutrition in grade school, but it got lost alo g the way.and what they taught us is mostly wrong now.people need to educate themselves and not follow what drs say so much
Celeste, my heart groaned at what you said. Because medical schools absolutely DO NOT teach proper nutrition. Just this week, I had my first New Patient Appointment with my new Endocrinologist. He offered me some nutritional classes with their staff Nutritionist. I FLATLY turned him down……politely, of course. BECAUSE I am very aware of how Nutrition is taught in colleges. They are back in the Dark Ages and will….unknowingly…..keep you sick. Hopefully, your daughter has gotten OUTSIDE teaching on Nutrition !❤️
@@conniewaite1371 They don’t even teach kids how to write now, nutrition didn’t stand a chance. Even if they did it would be sponsored by the car manufacturers. Just look at what they serve for lunch in the schools.
Problem is that nutrition taught in most all schools is harmful because it is the opposite of healthy.
The hospital foods are a TOTAL Garbage.
It blows my mind how fast I lose weight when I avoid carbs. If only I could have the will power to stick with it. My wife bakes the best cookies and cakes on earth, this is how I know she hates me.
Imagine if you can marry four wives. That is four times weight gainer.
She’ll put you in an early grave! The only reason I have sweets in the house, my wife likes to eat them!
Shes slowly killing you on purpose.
😂😂😂 good one
The only way to escape, is to put her on No carbs too !
Not just Indian men. Malaysian men too.
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, SL. Malaysia not so much – may be you are ref to Malaysians from India. 😄
Cheap junk food.
And men who drink a lot will get that swollen belly, face, red nose, etc.
@@Dana-oi6bjlike Santa
@@user_1abcnot Pakistani they eat alot of meat
I appreciate the honest assessment of.lack of nutrition teaching in medical school. As an RN in the US, it is outside my scope of practice to Rx medications, so I do extensive education on nutrition for my patients. Part of my job is to teach my patients how to reduce the risk of returning to the hospital. Nutrition is SO IMPORTANT!!!! People are eager to learn because it’s something they can control. I’ve asked many docs in each area I’ve worked (Nephrology. Cardiology, Orthopedics, Neurology, and currently GI!!) why they don’t teach patients nutritional ways to help manage their health conditions. The answer is the same – they don’t study that in school.
All that to say – food IS medicine. If your nurse is trying to teach you about how to use nutrition to manage your health, please listen and ask questions, etc! We LOVE teaching these things!
I appreciate the straightforward approach to addressing the root cause without sugarcoating or being overly cautious.
Let’s sugarcoat the carb talk 😂
Pun intended, huh?
I’m an Indian Male and every since my intermittent fasting since April 2023, I lost my potbelly
its weird isnt it, and people all day long will tell you that you were wrong, or just lucky. But people are waking up
based
👍👍
This is good to do and eat high nutrition foods.
Bro, help me
I quit refined sugar & excess carb and within 1week my belly gone inside..❤❤ love you Dr Berg
That’s amazing. I need to keep trying.
It takes a lot longer than 1 week lol
@@djcraigg69 I had small so it took little time + I stopped fruits, candies etc
@@djcraigg69 He said inside, I think anybody that’s started a low carb diet can understand how much better the stomach feels plus the water loss originally. It’s an encouraging feeling so why try to trash it.
What’s with the fake testimony?
WOW !!! What a fantastic interview. I’ve done keto for 5 years and this is the best video I’ve ever seen. This India doctor is doing the impossible!!! She is able to help diabetics in a culture of all the wrong food. If her patients can do it, ANYBODY can do it. You should have this lady doctor on again.
I’m vegan and lost weight..seems to be whole food is the thing 😊
Wow! A physician who is actually trying to bring health to her client population! So refreshing!!
His not her
stop cruelty, stop eating animals and stop lecturing the world that your carnivore diet is the best diet. From the other side of the world world we don’t really give a flying F
As a potbellied indian man i appreciate dr bergs blunt answers to our problems
To put it bluntly
People can Stop eating powders and eat some whole foods to prevent the problem with wearing a big gut of insuline resistance
Good for you. ♡
Protruding belly means visceral fat which equals to stress.. i mean if you eat crap, you would be fat. If you eat crap and you have stress, you end up with bellyfull of visceral fat. Dr. Lustig’s great discovery
the goat
Great tht u r worried about my country
Protein foods are the most expensive to buy, as well as fresh veggies.. carbs are the cheapest
This has a lot to do with it too I believe
Belief systems too, sadly. All around the world.
Uh no.
Meat can be bought in bulk at some retailers.
Organ meat can be picked up at a steal.
Considering the amount of carbs we eat, protein is cheaper.
Support your local farmers market for fruit and veg.
Do not buy in the supermarket.
@@kg1110 Considering the long term damage to the person that is mitigated by protein it is the less expensive long term choice for certain. Grief saver.
Yeah but if your not buying all the extra junk you can afford the good proteins.
Also, Indians think that eating eggs means eating something that could turn into life. I try my best here to educate about laying hens, non fertilized eggs that will never become a life- that no rooster is with them, most are shocked and have never heard this before.
😂😂😂
Stop blaming all Indians. It’s just Lindus🕉️ who are this thick headed
😂😂😂
Lol. Even if it is fertilized, isn’t that just eating chicken?
Honest Doctors leads to Honest Discussion.
It would be great if this video gets dubbed in Hindi, it will reach masses in India who need to have this knowledge
I would do it if this extremely try talented doctor n great human dr berg permits
Most Indians will refuse everything that’s being said in this video. I’m a doctor in India and trying to get patients to eat clean is exhausting.
A super smart and pretty doctor speaks the truth! No one can silence her! Thanks Docs!
Yes she was awesome as is he.
This was by far the best solution based interview.
If you need a consult with Dr. Roshani Sanghani go here https://reisaanhealth.com. It’s very difficult to find a medical doctor who uses mainly food as their primary tool to help people – I highly recommend her: :))
Thank you Dr Berg!
Amazing information in this video. I am from the same state of Gujarat and I am also suffering from big belly and hungry all the time
Most Americans are poor & they can’t afford fresh veggies & fruits so they stick to eating meat which is easily affordable & readily available & doctor Eric looks weak & skinny because he’s also probably poor
Hello from India thanks for your valuable feedback. we don’t give a flying F. you’re welcome
stop cruelty, stop eating animals & stop lecturing the world that your carnivore diet is the best diet. from the other side of the world we don’t really give a flying f***
I completely changed my diet six months ago based on nationally recommended guidelines, but it only made my health worse. It wasn’t until I read ‘The 23 Former Doctor Truths’ that I realized doing the opposite of what the government advises can actually make a difference. No wonder the doctor who wrote it left their career—speaking the truth often challenges the system!
Thanks for sharing that
i totallya agree about national diet
