Someone also didnt tell us when u hit 62 no more need to shave legs. I was shocked. All of a sudden no leg hair. 🤔
I’m a nurse x 15 years. Learned nearly NOTHING about perimenopause/menopause in nursing school. I will be 50 next August. I’ve always been really healthy. Never sick. Was a pescatarian for many years. In the last few years, I began suffering from so many symptoms I believed were related to perimenopause. I’m prediabetic, get “situational” high blood pressure that requires meds (and I try my hardest to avoid meds) otherwise I risk a stroke or heart attack (so for me, 190s+/110s+), and I suffer anxiety to the point of panic attacks, among several other symptoms. I told my OB/GYN about 3 years ago that I felt I was perimeno. Because I still have regular periods, she said, “no, you’re not.” I never went back to her again.
Western medicine/allopathic medicine is based in patriarchal values. Understand…We are NOT far removed from overt patriarchal practices OR slavery. So this should make sense… Western medicine does not honor women’s voices, especially Black women’s.
Many doctors are ignorant. They only know what they know, and they experiment on us by practicing empirically. We really have to do our own research, become aware of and listen to our bodies in a world full of distractions.
Fortunately, today, there are A LOT more women researching and discussing perimeno/menopause in public spaces, female MDs included. Much appreciation for THIS conversation! We need more! 🙏🏽
In addition to some lifestyle changes, I’ve personally sought out Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine to support my hormone balance and have gotten great relief.
If you are going to choose a Western Medicine physician to help manage your health, choose functional medicine. Functional Medicine physicians are the best Western medical physicians to seek care from because they are holistic! But guess what… your insurance does NOT cover them! Hmm… Wonder why?! They are MDs! Trained like any other MD with a specialty in holistic health integration. 😂🤷🏽♀️ It’s always about the 💰 and power.
Women NEED to know what lifestyle habits to integrate into their lives WELL before perimeno hits in order to support the journey to and thru menopause in the best way possible.
Last thing, ask yourselves WHY our menstruation cycle and its elder, wiser sister menopause (AND just aging women, in general) have been banished to the dungeons–hidden, not to be discussed, and transmuted into something they are not via birth control, impossible beauty standards, surgeries, etc. It is because knowledge is power. What is more powerful than “knowing thyself”? Than intuition, than healthy elder women who are wise and deeply intuitive. Sit with that. And consider that the majority of “witches” who were murdered by insecure, unhealthy, competitive children masquerading as men, were elder women. Were they “witches” or were they wise women “healers” with knowledge of nature, rhythms, cycles??
