I genuinely don’t eat oats, too often. Maybe once every 6 to 8 months. This video was very interesting, I learned a lot about oats. I love it when you compare it to other foods within your examples. It’s really eye-opening. Thank you so much for your continuous efforts and passion to make our lives better.
Converting oats to oat flour and using that for baking is another alternative.
Having a treat after many months with no oatmeal, I put butter and Brewer’s Yeast flakes, Non-fortified, on it. The other day I did add whole milk powder and Peanut Butter. I don’t plan to eat this on a regular basis. I continue to lose weight, but no in a linear manner. I hope this does not throw me off. Just in time for Halloween, In need to stay off sugar and look for ways to eat comfort foods with no sugar or very little. I was totally off sugar until a recent, long visit with family.
@@walkerpublications4418 I toast the oats in a frying pan before putting them in my Vitamin to make oat flower for pancakes, waffles and other baked goods.
I would only recommend eating oats, if it is fermented for at least 24-36 hours before cooking.
1 cup of fermented oats = 2 cups of regular oats.
@@brusso456 by fermenting do you mean soaking the Oats and what would you recommend?
Love love love this channel !!! How balanced explanation , so well dissected and adore the visuals and charts ! Magistral as usual ❤
I remember I read somewhere that the oats have prebiotic properties meaning it helps with the gut bacteria balance. Even though I can’t back it up I kind of wanted to mention it here just to give you another perspective. That the food that might not seems to be a great source of fuel to a person might actually be great for person’s microbiome.
Also as much as the wheat is unpopular these days especially on this channel I can imagine, wheat bran is something that might actually have a great health benefits. According to my doctor it helps to develop certain gut bacteria and kind of brushes colon walls.
Use ancient wheat. Today’s wheat has been genetically changed & covered with roundup/glyphosate. Look up ancient wheats to find sources & types.
Oatmeal is my security food. Reminds me of my sainted Mom who fed us oatmeal for breakfast. I’ve been eating oatmeal for years and years. I use steel cut oats and add a little chia, buckwheat, quinoa , peanut butter and protein powder. I turn 83 in December. Love your videos.
I add pumpkin seeds, macadamia butter, hemp and chia seeds with cinnamon to my steel cut oats
I add blueberries, cloves and cinnamon to my oatmeal.
Oatmeal 2 or 3 times a week with flax extra oat bran seeds or nuts dried fruit or fresh berries dash of cinnamon and almond milk … works for me for regularity and digestion
I add cinnamon, vanilla extract, ground flax, almond meal, chia seeds, sesame seeds. And for a sweetener, I only add fruit: raisins, dehydrated apples, and a banana. Delicious.
I think there is something miraculous about oatmeal, and it seems that the people who eat it everyday for years (coupled with a healthy overall lifestyle) seem to have a higher likelihood of living well into their 80s/90s. As with my grandparents, I read this time and again from people.
Hope so. I turn 83 in December, I drive, exercise walk and enjoy my life. Have a great day.
De Ekberg, 2 years ago I lost 80 pounds (250 to 170) with the help of your educational videos. It is not easy keeping it off but again, your guidance helps keep my focus on a healthy lifestyle. Thank You VERY much.
Keep going!!!!!! 👍🏻
Isn’t it amazing that “merely” cooperating with Nature yields the best results!
Besides Dr. Ekberg, another of my reliable sources in this area has been Dr. Robert Lustig.
Keep it rollin’!🎉
I ate oatmeal for breakfast everyday for a year and all it did was give me high blood pressure. So I switched to an all meat diet and I lost 40lbs and off my blood pressure medicine
I have been fasting for some months now , I used to weigh 223lbs now I’m at 178lbs, taking this man’s advice was probably the best thing I’ve ever done. If Anyone has any questions I’ll be more then happy to answer in the replies.
The Doc. Saved my life! There’s nothing you could tell me other then he’s a Godsend! You’re on your way to you’re best life! Good stuff!
I agree. I lost 9 kg too in 2 months. Going to continue IF, keto to lose another 5 kg to achieve my ideal weight
What did you do? I need to loose weight.
@@marciabarreto780 first things first cut out Soda/juice. Have a schedule when to eat food everyday. I suggest 12-5pm and after that no food/snacks till the next day. Try and average 10 thousand steps a day. Also I high suggest buying a scale to keep track and to motivate you once you seen results. Drink plenty of water
I eat oats every day – 20+ years now. Intermittent Fasting has brought me from 220+ to under 178 lbs.
Very interesting, balanced presentation. I’m relieved to learn that i’m probably not ruining my health by eating oats everyday for breakfast. I do it more out of habit than pleasure. Don’t add sugar, just a bit of cinnamon, walnuts and pumpkin seeds which hopefully take care of my prostate and general health. It’s a convenient everyday breakfast but don’t feel it is miraculous either for emptying the bowel; coffee is probably more efficient at that. But it keeps me easily satiated till lunch time. It must be an ok food for me, as i’m doing fine w/out any meds at an already respectable age.
Sugar is fine. Just get it from fruit. Smash a banana in the bowl before you put the oats in then mix. Tastes great!
I’ve historically skipped breakfast, but that usually puts me behind the curve on hitting 200g of protein per day that I target. I’ve been doing “Overnight Oats” recently, which includes adding milk, plain greek yogurt, chia seeds, protein powder, and a dash of honey. Gets me off to a good start on hitting that goal, plus it’s quick and easy.
You don’t need 200g of protein a day FGS.
The US RDA for protein is 0.36 grams / pound. Don’t believe everything you watch on YouTube, especially from muscle goon lifter bros.
You cannot process 200g of protein. You are simply flushing that expensive suppliment down the toilet.
@@BrandonGoletsAge and activity can raise that to 1.2 per kg. 🫱🏼🫲🏽
@@BrandonGoletsUSDA is full of crap, but 200 is probably going to start straining kidneys
Excellent video….as a person who eats one servings of oats a day, I’m glad to hear the breakdown of the nutritional factors and benefits. I only add cinnamon, very little diced dates, with an unsweetened almond & coconut milk blend, topped with a few blueberries. I’m going to look into adding chia seeds with it going forward. I also have two whole egg whites with one full egg to make an omelette (w/ sea salt, black pepper and parsley flakes) with a glass of water. I also have a slice ( 1/4 of a whole) of avocado with it once it’s in season. The local avocados here are way bigger than the small imported ones found at the foodstore. And that’s my daily breakfast when I get home from the gym each morning. Speaking of which can you speak on multivitamins supplements as well at things like almond, oat, rice, coconut and soy milk?…of you haven’t already.
Soy is not recommended at all. Nothing with added forms of sugar or questionable additives. Higher fat cream half n half or no sugar coconut cream I believe. He does have a video on beverage n what to drink.
@@dianetrue2396 Almond milk isn’t much better than soy imo. I don’t think any of those ‘milks’ (oat milk etc) are healthy
@@bitterangels4001 Care to share why you have that opinion of them?
@@bitterangels4001 I agree. I don’t use any of them. Just a lot of hype. I use a bit of cream n grass fed butter in my coffee and love either a bit of full fat sour cream or Greek yogurt with nuts n berries for a special treat. Works for me but not everyone chooses that as an option. I’d rather eat less of the real deal than substitutes. None of that stuff available when I was growing up, the skim milk n margarine thing had started, and there wasn’t all this stuff about food allergies n health issues.
Sometimes getting back to basics n simply eating as close to nature as possible is a good place to start.
dates are super high in sugar , and why would you ever use almond milk instead of raw almonds, heavy cream would be better
I do intermittent fasting, eat mostly organic and low carb. But oatmeal is one of the few high carb food that I really like and instinctively make me feel that’s good for me, the other high carb I enjoy are bananas and quality honey.
I prepare my oatmeal with a lot of cinnamon, often with sheep milk or adding skyr, greek yogurt or kefir and some Brazil, macadamia or walnut nuts and blueberries…for me a great cheap and healthy meal that keeps energized for hours! 😄
i do the same. dates. cinnamon. prunes. milk powder
guys how do you eat cinnamon? you mean you add cinnamon powder?
I’m glad you pointed out that oats affect different people in different ways. I’ve always eaten oatmeal since I was a kid. Typically a bowl a day. Mind you, I use the plain whole grain oats (not the kind with the added sugar or treats in them) cooked with unpasteurized milk… with bananas and blueberries tossed in with some honey to top it off. Always fills me up, never leaves me feeling bloated or hungry.
A few of my friends would see me eating it and say it’s bad for me and I was always like “how though?! What about it is bad?” This video helped shed light on some of the downsides, but I figure as long as I stay active and avoid processed foods, plain oats aren’t going to hurt me much, if at all.
What bad about it is some oatmeal is sprayed with glyphosate (Quaker oats), be careful which ones you choose.
Give it time …..oats are bad
@@QAlba1074 At this point it’s become obvious that theyre *trying* to mess with us and not to help
@@backtoasimplelife Most of the problem is if something starts out good, they find a way to make it bad for us
@@bitterangels4001 They find a way to manipulate it so they can make more money from it.
Thanks for another great video. I’m so glad you are sharing to help us cut through the wealth of poor information out there. I’m often cooking oats with full fat coconut cream, water as necessary, chia seeds, and cinnamon. Top with fermented yoghurt, unsweetened stewed fruit like bramley apple or rhubarb, occssionally a little honey 👍
Hi Doc. I can tell your not a fan of oats but you did talk about what is the magic of oatmeal. It is a good vehicle for the other foods that make it a great breakfast if your not a diabetic. I like to do what is called overnight quick oats with whole milk. My favourite combo is ground flax seed for extra fibre, nuts for more protein and fats, raisins, cinnamon and a little maple syrup which is lower on the glycemic index for a sugar. I went to that as my go to from store bought bread, peanut butter and jam. I feel it did help me lose some stubborn weight that I was having difficulty with and I am able to keep it off. I feel more satiated in the morning and I feel it gives my the energy for my workout and job. On my days off I do eggs. I’m a big breakfast guy would not miss it. The meal I could skip would be lunch or supper if I had a later lunch.
He doesn’t know anything about oats. He spent 1 hour researching oats. He never once mentioned the miracle compound held inside oats. We know what it is ;). Idiot eckberg.
yes oats is all about what you eat with and the quality of oats you eat
Soo many peps just cant get their heads around not eating the Poison CarB !@@xlbubblehead2505

I ate oats (porridge) EVERY day during pregnancy and after giving birth my stomach was the flattest its ever been…this blew my mind completely. I also stayed off sugar. Maybe a combination of the 2. Oat are incredible.
Mine too after pregnancy but entirely without oats. Never ate it
You mean incredibly bad compared to a proper diet without grains
@@VeritasEtAequitas Why spread meaningless hate? Oatmeal is a healthy and natural food, and humans have eaten it for thousands of years. If you pref a diet without grain, then good for you.
@@Luke-lp2ko Thank you! Agree. I just found out I have Celiac (explains everything I’ve been going thru the past 6 mos!) – I’m rewatching this video bc I now need to use oatmeal for some breakfast some mornings. I’m not micro into the *perfect* clean diet, I just have to dumpall the gluten out NOW before I have severe damage. Nongluten oats are better than grains & than eggs every morning, that adds up too.
@Luke-lp2ko indeed, not all live in countries with avokados everywhere. I love them, but rather eat local food. I had a moment of disgust after noticing my fishoil D3- vit capsels were coated with gelatin from beef that Ive avoided for over 20 years. Idea of eating only meat isnt for me. After meaningful meetings with each animal species it gets hard to devour their flesh if the life has been taken too early. Lastly staring at deer and talking to her… probably going to finish my freezer storage and just stick to eggs for no on. Bests🎏
Thanks for an eye opening lecture on oats. Helps me a lot on re programming my breakfast. You’re just great!
I love oatmeal with whole oats, butter, brown sugar, and heavy cream. I had no idea fat also helps stabilize blood sugar spikes like protein. I will definitely adjust my oatmeal recipe – thank you for the recommendations.
I’m not a breakfast eater and incorporate the intermittent fasting and low carbs but still Love my oats with berries and nuts and seeds generally eating middle of the day. I just dont have it everyday, I think variety in our diet is important too, especially as we begin to understand more about how our bodies work. Really appreciate the informative videos that enable us to deepen our understanding and make better choices ❤
Agreed! Would you mind sharing what else you have for breakfast that doesn’t have carbs?
I just love how they explain everything to us so we can understand them , and they make it fun so we don’t get bored or distracted ( which happens to me very often) plus they are having fun to which is amazing. So thank you! You’re amazing guys!
