Due to ulcerative colitis, I’ve been on a carnivore/eggs/light dairy diet for about 4 years. At 39, I’m in better shape than I have been since I was in my early 20’s. I went from 9-12 meds – average 20 pills a day – to 0 on this diet. ZERO. Part of this diet has been 3-4 eggs for breakfast each day (mix of duck and chicken) with ground beef.

    • @LilyBean82 on May 3, 2024 at 11:32 am

I’m happy that you’re in better shape than you’ve been in since your early 20’s! UC is a beast! Our diets can either be medicine or poison and it’s up to us to find out individually which kind of diet works for us.

    • @ahoyforsenchou7288 on May 3, 2024 at 11:57 am

@@LilyBean82 It’s a big challenge to find out which foods agree with us or not. Inflammation, in my case, being the thing to look out for. It can take 24 hours to show changes or it can take a week. Carnivore lets me set a neutral baseline then introduce foods one or two at a time to see how I react to them.

    • @veronicaheaney3464 on May 4, 2024 at 1:52 am

Haven’t met anyone who has eaten duck eggs. They’re quite expensive and I didn’t want to buy something I may not like. Are they anything like chicken eggs?

    • @ahoyforsenchou7288 on May 4, 2024 at 11:33 am

@@veronicaheaney3464 Very similar, but larger and more rich (both in taste and nutrition). You’re correct in that they’re really expensive if purchased in a store though. I get mine from a lady at a local farm here in the Midwest for around $4/dozen, but when I lived in CA it was nearly $7 for 6.

So really it just depends on your situation. The taste and nutrition isn’t really worth it if you’re having to pay double the cost (or more).

  20. @veronicaheaney3464 on May 3, 2024 at 3:34 pm

Have pretty much eaten at least 2 eggs every morning since I’ve been an adult. I am now 76. When I was 22, I started working in a cardiac cath lab and became very aware of all the low fat, high carb recommendations being touted back then. Somehow, it both made sense to me – and didn’t. Both sides of my family were farmers. They ate a lot of eggs and meat, drank milk fresh from the cow and had vegetables from the garden. Yes, they also ate bread to soak up the juices from the meat and fried eggs. Fats were bacon grease and butter. I’ve made a graph of these people – chiefly my grandparents and their offspring. Those that stayed longest on the farm and were least affected by the depression and world wars, lived well into their 90’s. Those that moved into the city and were more affected by environmental issues, the depression, war, personal vices like smoking or alcohol abuse … had shorter lifespans, alcohol abuse taking my uncle at age 60.
If eggs, and even high cholesterol, are so bad for you, why were there so many examples, 18 of 30 in my family alone, healthy and happy to such great ages? Genes? I doubt it as others who were from the same stock but who had more adverse exposures and lifestyles, as it were, succumbed to various diseases at least a decade younger.
As for me, I’ve decided to keep to my farm-based ancestors way of eating and barring any extreme affects of my environment, hope to set a new record for family longevity, which currently stands at 102 years. 😉

    • @almaburns6562 on May 3, 2024 at 4:55 pm

      You make some valid points.

    • @vitalishus on May 3, 2024 at 10:13 pm

      @veronicaheaney3464
Same here, my family longevity stands at 104, I had a great-grandmother, grandmother and her 3 brothers who all lived to 104. Large family still living and all those who’ve stayed on the farm are heading in that direction. I’ve always “known” intuitively that I will live to 104 as well. I’m carnivore 1 year (& ex keto 9 years) My brother is 2 years younger than me and is obese and eats junk, as does his wife who just had a stomach bypass to lose weight (against my pleas not to) and now eats like a rabbit. Salads & low or non-fat foods. Plus processed junk. Neither of them will have a long life. It’s sad, but they won’t listen. I have a very obese aunt who I tried to help her 20 years ago to turn her eating habits around – but she got offended & wouldn’t talk to me for ages. Now she says she wishes she’d listened to me. She’s in her 80’s and even though I tell her it’s never too late, she still won’t budge. I think she’s just too wedged into her old habits to see past it. So I just focus on me and my grown up daughter.

    • @almaburns6562 on May 4, 2024 at 12:48 am

@@vitalishusMay I ask how old are you now? My family longevity of 94 is about ten years behind yours. Like you, I intuitively feel that I will live to 94. I’m not sure if I can prolong my longevity past that. My only hope is to still be active & independent even at the end and die peacefully in my sleep.

    • @veronicaheaney3464 on May 4, 2024 at 1:42 am

@@vitalishus I totally understand. Some in my family hastened their own end, but others were affected by circumstance.
My dad was affected by his service in the Air Force during WWII. Even with all his war wounds, he managed to keep active till age 75. But he listened when told smoking was bad for him. Others, well they went the way of fast food, alcohol and other things that did them no good at all.
My sister got angry with me when I suggested she take better care of herself. She died of brain cancer when she was 55. My brother, who was born with multiple heart defects and suffered from rheumatoid arthritis since he was 19, lived a simple but whole life till he was 70. I’m the only survivor in my immediate family. It’s not like I haven’t had health issues at times, but I worked through them and am the better for it. Carnivore is definitely helping, though I cycle it with keto. Wish I’d found it 20 years ago, even earlier. Perhaps those health issues would never have occurred.
