Is Krill Oil the same? I take a 50/50 blend of regular fish oil and krill. 250 MG each.

Bro is literally writing “mirrored”(or the video is reverse). Idk if you’ve ever tried writing tried to write something on yourself, in order to see the reflection in the mirror, but it’s “flips” everything displayed.

Mother’s breast milk is high in fats to development a healthy brain. If mom doesn’t have enough of the fats in the breast milk, how can the child’s brain development properly. I’m 76 and drink whole milk all day long. I recently heard a doctor make a claim that drinking milk will weaken bones. A few months ago I had a bone scan and it was normal. Hard to know who has the correct information.

Cool video. Thanks! My question, does anything negitive, or dangerous happen if a person over uses EPA and DHA supplementation? If yes, what’s the daily max EPA and DHA?

  5. Tony Nesta on September 1, 2023 at 10:52 am

I have a bottle of fish oil capsules, a good brand, in the fridge and I take one occasionally. But I also eat fish at least twice a week. Thanks for the analysis and information 😮!!

  6. Shayna Hanus on September 1, 2023 at 10:55 am

“Don’t think of it as a medication.” 👍🏼 Thank you Dr. Ekberg! Man, we really waste a ton of money on supplements when we really can get everything our bodies need if we eat the right foods 💸💸🚽

    • Dr. Sten Ekberg on September 1, 2023 at 12:42 pm

      Thank you @shaynahanus4034 😄

    • Dry Dessert on September 1, 2023 at 4:59 pm

Wether you get the nutrients your body needs depends on what you *actually* eat (versus what theoretically you *could* eat) and wether your body is able to extract the nutrients from the food. With age, health problems (inflammation, etc.), personal genetic factors, the optimal use of what`s in the food is not guaranteed.

    • Shayna Hanus on September 1, 2023 at 5:10 pm

      @Dry Dessert Very true.

    • Glasgow Rossco on September 1, 2023 at 6:40 pm

@Dr. Sten Ekbergi took an expensive fish oil supplement but sadly after a few weeks it stopped having an effect.

I have been taking Cod Liver Oil for 30 Years guaranteed from cold water fish. I started after living with knee pain when in my fifties. I am 87 now in perfect health, with absolutely no joint pain. The reason I continued it! Almost every one I know have had serious joint problems.

    • Abdullah Falancha on September 1, 2023 at 12:09 pm

That means good for health cod liver oil

    • Sunshine FL on September 1, 2023 at 12:21 pm

May I ask which brand you’re taking?

    • TemporarySETback on September 1, 2023 at 12:21 pm

      Were u taking synthetic supplement?

    • W J on September 1, 2023 at 12:35 pm

      😊😊😊

  8. Vincentorix on September 1, 2023 at 11:28 am

Thanks Doc. The big message for me was that supplements provides the resources that help normalize body functions. It doesn’t act like a medication that controls or suppresses a symptom.

    • Dr. Sten Ekberg on September 1, 2023 at 12:54 pm

Thank you @Vincentorix. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You for actually watching the video. It warms my heart. So many of the comments unfortunately show that a lot of people completely missed the point. 😄

  9. Minka Demko on September 1, 2023 at 11:53 am

This video cleared up the mystery of why my mom gave me cod liver oil when I was little. Thanks so much for the details! I’m 72 now and started taking it again about 10 years ago.

  10. David Shingledecker on September 1, 2023 at 11:54 am

Went to a neurologist to test my legs to see if my OA was interfering with the nerves to my feet. After describing the constant pain I was in the doctor off-handedly suggested I take fish oil. I sort of blew him off but within 6 months my outdoor heavy maintenance job was taking a painful toll on me. I had run marathons and lifted heavy weights all my life in the military and the AO was killing me. One day in desperation I took a whole handful of fish oil capsules and was literally pain-free for three days. That was 15 years ago. Since then I’ve cut back dramatically on all carbs and starches, lost 35 lbs and have been able to cut back to just five capsules a day. I maintain by walking a couple miles a day, biking, lifting and watching my diet and am retired, living a virtually pain free life. I guess I’m enjoying the other benefits of taking omega 3 as a sideline!

    • TemporarySETback on September 1, 2023 at 12:23 pm

But was that synthetic fish oil that u were taking?

    • Pete Roz on September 1, 2023 at 12:53 pm

@TemporarySETbackbut.. if it is synthetic… it can’t be fish oil, can it? 🤔😲

    • David Shingledecker on September 1, 2023 at 1:32 pm

@TemporarySETback It could be made of dog turds and I would use it. It stopped my pain. I use Nature’s Bounty and Nature Made.

    • c gilly on September 1, 2023 at 6:05 pm

      Alpha-lipoic acid as well ?

I consume canned cod live(very strong tasting so hold your nose and swallow fast) and sardines in water 3 times a week. Both are of good quality. Thanks Doc!

  13. angelfriend on September 1, 2023 at 12:26 pm

Thank you for the video, and all the effort you put into it. I was wondering if there’s a way to know if the good brands are rancid or not. I’ve heard most fish oil is rancid and toxic. Just curious about what you thought. Hope you and yours have a nice weekend!

  14. Joel on September 1, 2023 at 12:28 pm

Fish oil lowered my Triglycerides from 300 to 100. I think of supplements as what might be missing in the food. I’m 75 and have nothing wrong after supplementing for the last 30 years, and I am very pleased I have. It is at this age that the difference between those of us who have taken care of our health and those who haven’t becomes obvious to the most casual observer.

    • Adam on September 1, 2023 at 3:03 pm

      does fish oil increase LDL?

    • Morten Andersen on September 1, 2023 at 5:59 pm

That means that I’m not a casual observer. I’m 56 years old. Five years ago I was the only one of the people that I know having lifestyle diseases. It was really bad.
Now I have reversed 90% of those things myself (not my doctor) and now it is all of my friends and family that have diseases instead of me. The opposite from five years ago. And I feel like I’m the only one noticing. Everybody I know has become sick and they think it’s just how life is when you are 50+ years old. Other peoples health has become very obvious to me the last couple of years.
Thanks Joel for your fish oil story.

I asked AI to sum up what this video said and it said
“Fish oil is an essential source of omega-3 fatty acids which are important for brain function and growth and development. There are different types of omega-3 fatty acids, but the most important ones are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are found in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines. If you don’t eat fish regularly, you can take fish oil supplements to get enough omega-3 fatty acids. However, it is important to choose a good brand of fish oil that concentrates the fish oils and extracts them very carefully to leave all the heavy metals and PCBs behind. Fish oil helps normalize inflammatory responses which can help prevent chronic low grade inflammation that causes cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic disease and other degenerative diseases. Fish oil is also a precursor for hormones and chemical messengers and builds cell membranes which are critical for every cell in the body to function properly. If you are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, taking fish oil supplements can help improve your health. A good brand of fish oil will usually have a three to two ratio of EPA versus DHA. However, some people need different ratios of EPA to DHA depending on what they’re looking for.”

    • 11:59 on September 1, 2023 at 1:49 pm

Thank you for this very succinct and very helpful post. I try to avoid AI, said I’d never deliberately use it. But for your post. Thanks again.

    • ADogNamedBoo on September 1, 2023 at 5:47 pm

@11:59 Yes, I agree. Never willingly or deliberately use AI. Check out the book The Coming Flood of AI. By, David Beverly Sr.

      @ADogNamedBoo thank you, I will.

  17. Ngọc Freyja on September 1, 2023 at 3:21 pm

Thank you doctor! This is the video i need right now. Everyone around me encourage one another to use fish oil, Omega 3,6… but now i’m certain i don’t really need it. Thanks a lot again! I hope you will make a video about vitamin D3 because it’s quite popular, too

  18. Ronald Lenz on September 1, 2023 at 4:41 pm

Dr. Sten: I grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin in the 50s and 60s. The only fish we ate, and not regularly, were perch, blue gills, crappie, and walleye. Otherwise a lot of milk, cheese, beef, pork, chicken, canned and frozen veggies/fruits. We had NO supplements. I’m a chemical engineer with a 130 IQ. Help me connect the dots on how my brain developed with no cold water ocean fish. Now we eat salmon about twice a week.

  19. byFrax on September 1, 2023 at 5:02 pm

Just another great video by Dr. Ekberg! I used to suffer from eczema and read up about how skin inflammation can be caused by a suboptimal omega3:omega6-ratio. Since taking fish oil, the eczema is almost completely gone!

  20. Simon Rolley on September 1, 2023 at 5:07 pm

Ive been taking flax seed oil for years because I thought it was essential. This video is really great and gas helped me turn a corner on supplements in general. I wondered wha your thoughts were on flax seed oil in caps as opposed to fish oil, does it also provide the DHA and ELA?
