Let’s talk about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids and what would happen if you started consuming them more often.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the body, but our bodies can’t produce them.

You can get omega-3 fatty acids by consuming a high-quality cod liver oil or fish oil supplement. I prefer cod liver oil because it has additional vitamin A and vitamin D.

However, it’s best to get your omega-3 fatty acids from food. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids include:
• Fatty fish
• Sardines
• Grass-fed beef
• Organ meats
• Eggs

EPA and DHA are important omega-3s. EPA mainly helps reduce inflammation. DHA primarily helps support the brain. Omega-3 fatty acids may even help people with asthma and allergies.

Consuming more omega-3 fatty acids may potentially help with certain symptoms, including:
• Dry eyes
• Dermatitis
• Macular degeneration
• Arthritis
• Arrhythmias
• High blood pressure
• Leg cramps
• Insomnia
• Menstrual cramps

More potential benefits of consuming omega-3 fatty acids:
• Improvements in fatty liver disease
• Increased calcium absorption
• Decreased risk of certain types of cancer

One small issue some people experience after taking fish oil is burping. You can take fish oil in capsule form, which shouldn’t cause burping. If you’re vegan or are allergic to fish, a good alternative is consuming algae.

It’s important to note that omega-6 fatty acids compete with omega-3 fatty acids. One of the biggest causes of a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids is excess consumption of omega-6 fatty acids.

If you have trouble absorbing fats easily, you may want to try taking purified bile salts to increase the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins.

I got it prescribed by my rheumatologist. I had a simple question: which products should I eat and which to avoid? She had no clue 😂 Thank you doctor Berg, you’re doing great job of educating people ❤

    • s.b911 on August 3, 2023 at 11:14 am

Look up foods to avoid if you have inflammation in the body. I would say tomatoes abd other nightshades are to be avoided but you can google this and there should be more info

    • Y on August 3, 2023 at 12:16 pm

lol. In my opinion, that’s a sign of progress, but also a sign of how far the AMA model has yet to go. Good luck to you. I hope you find ways to diminish your pain and restore your good health. <3

Starting fish oil 20 years ago changed my life, before then had no idea of its importance or even it existed. I am a different person having taken it every day. My nephew was going on 3 years not talking, my sister started him on fish oil and he started talking in a matter of DAYS. He turned into a kid who was prone to giving heavily long winded speeches even😅 love that kid

    • Andromeda on August 3, 2023 at 10:52 am

@s.b9118 She was worried about that possibility yes. But he improved so much there was really no need to take it any further, and he developed normally. He’s doing great now as an adult, everything’s good

    • TemporarySETback on August 3, 2023 at 11:21 am

  4. Liam Rimmer on August 3, 2023 at 10:27 am

My 8 year old daughter loves eating sardines and mackerel. Loves, broccoli. She loves eggs olives mussels. Tbh other parents look at her and say they couldn’t get their kids eating that kind of food. I think it’s how you start them off from an early age.

    • Billybong Thornton on August 3, 2023 at 12:19 pm

Mackerel has a high concentration of mercury, something to think about giving it to kids.

    • Aldous Huxley on August 3, 2023 at 1:52 pm

I applaud you. Most parents are completely ignorant. Hit the kids with 72 shotts give them nothing but gmos sugar dyes and chicken nuggets see what happens.

    • mingkee27 on August 3, 2023 at 1:59 pm

      @Billybong Thornton
This only applies to King mackerel
      Small one is OK

  5. Daily Dose of Medicine on August 3, 2023 at 10:30 am

Omega-3 can play a big part in creating hormone balance, primarily because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

  6. Alejandra MGuerrero on August 3, 2023 at 10:45 am

My Puerto Rican grandmother used to give us cod liver oil back in the sixties , until …. She found a substitute pill ! They were called Mc Coys . Ahhh! The pills made that habit and life , a lot easier to swallow , literally😁. Thanks For all The info Doc !

Thank you, Dr Berg! This couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m suffering with a lot of inflammation at the moment and low in vitamin d.

    • Aldous Huxley on August 3, 2023 at 1:50 pm

Can try turmeric infused coconut oil too

    • GoldPeakLLC on August 3, 2023 at 7:03 pm

      Vitamin d is anti inflammatory

  9. Seattle Six on August 3, 2023 at 11:22 am

Majority of complaints here revolve around aftertaste. If that is your case, there may be a stomach acid concentration issues. Check the videos on Apple cider vinegar for ways to help the problem. It also helps as a appetite suppressant but more importantly it can reduce acid reflux. Hope this helps

    • Vicki Roman on August 3, 2023 at 2:29 pm

I love the Garden of Life brand “Icelandic Cod Liver Oil – Lemon Mint.” Delicious with no aftertaste.

  10. Health and Wellness ER on August 3, 2023 at 11:49 am

Great video! Trying to keep your Omega 3 to 6 ratio is vital to optimum health. The video strengthens the connection and invigorates me at the start of my day! Thanks!

    • Dr. Eric Berg DC on August 3, 2023 at 1:02 pm

That’s great. Wishing you good health!

  11. blueskiesatx on August 3, 2023 at 12:58 pm

I was taking sea buckthorn oil for awhile (its expensive though 😕).

It has all the omegas. It would be great if you could discuss sea buckthorn for those of us who dislike fish oil.

    • Niloufar Saadat on August 3, 2023 at 5:50 pm

I agree, I hope Dr Berg considers discussing some plant-based options too. There are people who can’t consume animal products, in addition to those who don’t want to.

  12. Robert Karp on August 3, 2023 at 1:32 pm

Take note. Atlantic Caught Salmon is farmed salmon and has a higher Omega-6 content over the Omega-3, Pacific Caught Salmon is generally wild caught and has a higher Omega-3 content over the Omega-6. There is a difference and farmed salmon is not a very good alternative to Wild Caught.

    • Michael Walker on August 3, 2023 at 3:42 pm

Did not know “Atlantic Caught” is farmed but you are right. Thanks for the info.

  13. Shoshanah on August 3, 2023 at 1:58 pm

Yes, Dr. Berg, been taking Omega-3 & good Krill for years. That could be what’s keeping me so fit & strong to ward off infections & other health issues. So grateful! 😊

  14. Lorene Holmes Rule on August 3, 2023 at 2:02 pm

My endocrinologist told me Six months ago to start taking 1000mg of omega 3 everyday and CoQ10.
My cholesterol has no longer been a problem. No more fatty liver, either.
Wild Alaskan Salmon is a staple in my diet, also. Perhaps once a week I have 3 sardines with mustard. We only buy grass fed beef, eggs, and free range chicken eggs per Dr Berg’s advice. Thank you, Dr Berg.
    Happier and healthier at 76.

    • Lorene Holmes Rule on August 3, 2023 at 3:59 pm

Dr. Berg, I started your low carb routine at the end of May this year; now, I never eat sugar, or starchy foods or bread, I still eat healthy vegetables, especially broccoli, cauliflower cabbage kale and salads. My Arrhythmia heart doctor agreed to my healthy eating plan as long as I eat enough good green carbs for my heart ❤️. I am losing weight slowly but in a steady healthy fashion with my heart arrhythmia.
Thank you Dr Berg, at my age I thought I was too late; but no, there is always time for a healthy lifestyle. You are a blessing.

  15. Sean Charran on August 3, 2023 at 2:10 pm

I appreciate that Dr. Berg doesn’t big you down with unnecessary info. He makes everything very easy to digest

  16. Gail on August 3, 2023 at 3:11 pm

I started taking Omega 3 fish oils many years ago. I am 75 and all my friends are on multiple drugs, they have had to have cataract surgery and many have macular degeneration issues. They all have numerous types of medical problems. I have often wondered if my habit of Omega 3’s is the reason that I am very healthy. My eyes actually improved a few years ago and I do not have to wear glasses while driving. I eat only organic, non processed food and always buy grass fed, free range meat.

  17. MrBlockton on August 3, 2023 at 3:12 pm

I took 1800 mg in Omega 3 tablets daily for 60 days and slashed my LDL cholesterol by 87% (it was more than double the recommended levels) 👍

    • Natalya Fisher on August 3, 2023 at 6:15 pm

      What brand do you use?

  18. Gloria Fricano on August 3, 2023 at 3:17 pm

I’ve been taking cod oil for a couple months and my skin is clear and stretchy it’s awesome. No more dry patches on my upper arms and I had a rash on my mouth and cutting out gluten cleared that up too. I have Hashimotos and this channel has helped a lot. Thanks!

I’ve been doing that for at least 6 months. (Cod Liver Oil). Huge difference for me! Skin on my whole body is improving. Not nearly as much dryness and crinkly skin. My face is more hydrated, sun spots are fading. My hair is growing back in. Dry eyes are gone. Hands are not so sore. I feel better overall. 🤗
