Top Foods to STOP Your Cravings

Avoiding cravings is not up to sheer willpower. In this video, I’ll share the foods and habits that act as natural appetite suppressants to stop hunger and reduce cravings. Discover the best foods to suppress your appetite naturally so you can lose weight, feel good, and look good!

0:00 Introduction: The best foods to suppress appetite
0:43 Hunger and appetite explained
1:05 The best natural appetite suppressants
5:51 Other ways to curb hunger

Hunger and appetite don’t start with your stomach. Did you know that your microbes and gut bacteria can manipulate your brain and cause you to eat the wrong thing?

In this video, I'm going to help you reduce cravings for sugar, refined carbs, MSG, alcohol, and ultra-processed foods.

Here’s a list of the best foods to suppress your appetite naturally. These foods contain potent compounds to leave you feeling full and satisfied, and prevent insulin spikes to help stabilize your blood sugar.

1. Coffee
2. Avocado
3. Dark chocolate
4. Cayenne pepper
5. Apple cider vinegar
6. Green tea
7. Bone broth
8. Protein-rich meals
9. Ginger
10. Dark leafy green vegetables
11. Olive oil
12. MCT oil
13. Turmeric
14. Zinc
15. Kombucha tea
16. Grapefruit
17. Arugula
18. Full-fat protein

Eating fatty protein or fat with protein prevents a high insulin spike, which lowers your blood sugar. Avoiding this dip in blood sugar can reduce cravings and curb hunger. Eating fiber also helps buffer the insulin response.

Light exercise, like a long walk, is excellent for your blood sugar and can help reduce cravings. An extra 30 minutes of sleep significantly reduces cortisol, stabilizing blood sugar and suppressing appetite naturally.

Minimize stress with exercise, physical work, sleep, a healthy diet, and stretching. Ashwagandha is also beneficial, along with magnesium glycinate before bed.

Throughout the years I always remember people asking me if I wanted food at random times. Everyone would always snack multiple times in a given day I always skipped until my next meal and I’ve been in shape my whole life.

    Dr Berg,

I’ve been making home made L Gasseri and L Reuteri and I’m about 5 weeks in eating it everyday.

I can testify that I do not crave sugar, or sweets or alcohol. The only thing I’ve changed is quitting alcohol 5weeks ago and started consuming both those strains.

Both thos strains must block cravings.

Plus I’m getting all the other benefits shared in your last video. Looking forward to the 3months and then the 6months benefits.

Fantastic work. I used to reallly crave. Spent a fortune on this. Despite knowing how bad it was for my health and productivity. Thanks to your earlier videos on cravings, I was able to control cravings. So thankful for this alone. Completely improved life! This is not taught in schools but really should be if we want productivity to increase!

Some Healthcare workers doesn’t seem to really care about people deep down like in the past. This one reason I love going over Dr.berg videos and checking out his Live blog posts each week, Some of my doctors don’t stayed in the room for 5 minutes and that’s not good . I remember a doctor told me my EKg was good and Go home and rest. I didn’t listen to him because I knew something was wrong with me , So I walk in my heart doctor and next thing I was rush to the hospital for open heart surgery.

I noticed the impact of gut biome on hunger years ago. I was struggling with hunger when working to loose weight (I was never all that heavy, but heavier than I wanted). Intermittent fasting helped, but once I introduced greek yogurt I noticed a real difference in cravings. I started taking that and a probiotic in the morning as my first meal in the morning and it would be my snack whenever I had a craving (and Kombucha with lunch). Within a couple of days my carb cravings would go away. Now I have the L. Reuteri yogurt regularly…but whenever I have a couple of carb-heavy days I know exactly what to do in order to keep my biome in-line. It makes a HUGE difference. I can be out running errands and get a bit hungry and just wait until I get home and avoid eating any crap when out.

Great information. I was a carb freak all my life, then got diabetes after a transplant. The sugar cravings were deadly – no pun intended and I knew I had to do something. I hated dieting. It was yo-yo for me – no problem losing it but when the diet was ‘over’, I gained it back and then some, because I hadn’t dealt with the sugar cravings. Let me just say – your diet will never be over. You have to find one that you can maintain for life so you have to like it.

So I switched to all unprocessed foods and ate nothing processed, not even bread or pasta. It was a process, not overnight. I ate three meals and one snack a day – never skipped. My diet is balanced; no food groups are left out. Lots of veg, fruits, EV olive and V coconut oils, some natural cheese and yogurt, farm eggs and chicken, pastured beef. I bought local organic wheat kernels and started making my own bread – so if I wanted it, I had to go to the trouble of making it. Then I froze it by slice and only took one out at a time to limit intake. Low carb didn’t work for me. It made me feel sick. I don’t eat a lot of meat and fat – just include some to balance things out. This works for me. Absolutely everything is homemade except the yogurt and cheese sometimes if I can’t get farm milk. My cravings disappeared in two weeks. I lost a few pounds. It’s not for everyone – it’s more work to make your food than to go to a restaurant or have it delivered – but I’m just passing it on. It might help someone.

    • @ibelieve722 on February 12, 2025 at 4:44 pm

I’m with you on this lifestyle entirely. I do make my own yogurt for many years and it’s Super Gut yogurt now for the past year. Not everyone has the discipline to do this. Sadly, I’ve lost friends because I won’t join them in restuarant outings.
