Let’s talk about the potential benefits of taking vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 at the same time.
Vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 work closely together. Vitamin D3 supports the absorption of calcium in the small intestines. Vitamin K2 takes calcium from the blood and transports it to the bones and teeth. It also activates a protein that keeps calcium out of the arteries, joints, and other areas of the body where it shouldn’t be.
Vitamin K2 has many additional potential benefits, from supporting healthy blood sugar levels to improving wrinkles.
Animal fats are a great source of the MK4 version of vitamin K2. A different form of vitamin K2, called MK7, comes from bacteria in foods like cheese and fermented foods. People who cut fatty foods from their diet are at risk for a vitamin K2 deficiency.
Foods high in vitamin K2:
• Grass-fed butter and ghee
• Hard and soft cheeses
• Egg yolks
• Goose liver, chicken liver, and beef liver
• Hot dogs
• Salmon
If someone chooses to take a vitamin K2 supplement, they may want to consider the MK7 version. For every 10,000 IU of vitamin D3, I suggest taking 100 MCG of vitamin K2.

Thanks for watching! I hope this helps increase your awareness of the benefits of taking vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 together. I'll see you in the next video.
Exactly the questions I had around D3 and K2, thank you sir.
I’m so glad you did this video! I started the combination this year as a friend and I who both watch you, suggested. I wasn’t as grounded on why until now. Its so great to understand the WHY?
I already posted a comment but will guarantee you D3 K2 has made a tremendous difference in my dental health so I know it has also made my bones stronger but that I cannot tell. I take 10,000 IU D3 with 180 micrograms K2 and on year 3 of it.
Great 👍 he’s made more videos on absorption of vitamin D.
@@markwhite6782Great! You may want to consider the data of this video to increase D3&K2 absorption. And his other videos on absorption of vitamin D.
Thank you, Dr. Berg. I appreciate this information very much. I have been dealing with osteoporosis for the past year. I have been on medications to treat my bone loss but ended up with some serious stomach issues. I have been taking D3 with K2 the mk7 version for years however still having osteoporosis. I can’t take calcium supplements because they end up like you mentioned in my blood and heart. I’m stummed as to know what to do. The supplements D3-k2 is 5000 to a 100mcg ratio I will up my D3 without the k2 and see what happens. Is there anything else you could recommend? I broke my ankle recently and believe it’s because of my osteoporosis. I really would appreciate your feedback 🙏
Theres other things u can add like boron glycinate for bones..and other nutrients. Just incase useful.
perhaps you need magnesium boost? I take Mg glycinate .. only 100 mg/1 capsule along with D3/K2 5000IU/100mcg (Mg daily shown as 400 mg, so I am only taking 1/4th .. I may increase, especially if get toe or leg cramps). you also get D3 from fatty fish, cod liver oil, small amts from eggs, cheese and beef liver. I ran out of cod liver oil and am now just taking D3 5000 IU along with K2 100 mcg as menaquinone 7. Most people are low in magnesium .. don’t know why not mentioned in this video .. hard to know if low in Mg but you might search to learn more about Mg
I take every night Magnesium Chelate 300mg, the buffered version for years. I can’t sleep without it. Reasently I added Glucosamine with chondroitin and MSM. I don’t know how it’s helping so far. Been immobile with a broken ankle for the past 2 weeks. Thank you so much for your reply. I’m feeling confused and frustrated about how to treat my osteoporosis without having dangerous high levels of calcium in my blood
@ccaselli7 I will definitely look I to boron glycinate. Is there any brand you would suggest?
You need an Emulsified D3/K liquid drop its excellent and my practitioner highly recommends this form. Look into Standard Process vitamins/supplements also😊
I am 1 year post cancer treatment. One of the supplements I was recommended to take is D3 (1000 IU). I asked if I should take De & K2. The answer was “no”. Having found you, I have increased my D3, NOW I have ordered D3&K2!!! Thank you for science to the answers.
What kind of cancer? And who said no?
Same here. I asked my oncologist about k-2 and she just shrugged it off and said D was more important. I started taking the combo anyway because everything I had heard and read said it was a better way.
I don’t know what you mean exactly but you should listen to your personal doctor
I take up to 16000 iu’s this time of year (4x4000iu’s with k2)and 12000 at other times. I’m 67 and have no health issues and on no meds so there’s no other reason other than it’s a good amount to take. (It’s not sunny here in the UK)! There are doctors that prescribe 50000 daily for post treatment.
@@paul756uk2 though k2 helps in blood clotting , so each individual is different case
It’s crazy because I was just researching vitamin K2 because my doctor recommended me taking K2 along with vitamin D3 because as a 40 year old male, I was diagnosed with osteopenia after my Dexa Bone Density scan was done.
Very abnormal for a guy my age to even have mild bone loss, it’s mostly a woman’s issue especially older woman, and very old men. The reason why I believe I have some miles bone loss is because I believe I have Hyperparathyoridsim.
My serum calcium levels have always been high, actually they are too elevated which is not normal. So even though I have very high calcium levels in my blood, like 10.5 and sometimes higher, I have bone loss. The only explanation for the high calcium is that one of my parathyroid glands has a tumor which is causing my body to suck excess amounts of calcium from my bones even though my PTH levels are normal.
So for now before doing more testing on my parathyroid glands, and to help remove that excess calcium from my blood, and put it back into my bones where it belongs, is to start taking K2 on a daily basis.
I have dealt with chronic fatigue for years and slow memory processing, brain fog, lack of energy, and I believe it all has to do with the elevated calcium levels in my blood which can cause brain and nerve connection problems.
In many ways vitamin K2 should be way more popular and talked about when it comes to cardiovascular health from cardiologist. If one has high blood pressure, some plaquing of the arteries already, cardiologist should start telling their patients to get on a vitamin K2 supplement ASAP, and not a stupid statin. K2 will help remove the plaque buildup in the arteries, unlike a statin or any other type of drug that doesn’t do a damn thing to actually fix or cure the problem.
I am hoping after a few months of taking K2 and D3 together, that my serum calcium will go down into the 9’s where it should be, not in the 10’s especially the mid 10’s. Hopefully my energy levels, and cognitive function will improve even if I might possibly have a parathyroid tumor.
you may also need Mg .. I started Mg glycinate awhile back (in addition to K2D3) .. Mg needed for multitudes of functions including assisting D3K2 to move calcium from soft tissue to bones and teeth ..
I so hope you get improvement and that you DON’T have a tumor.
You sound like you have low testosterone levels, with those symptoms of fatigue, brain fog etc.
Get tested, and don’t listen to your doctor when he tells you levels of an 80yo are normal for a 40yo guy.
@@neveldas I know, I hope I don’t either. Good thing about those tumors is that 99% of the time they are not cancerous. And the surgery to remove one is very minimal invasive surgery so nothing risky. If I do have a tumor, the only real cure for my excessively high calcium levels in the blood, is to remove it.
I’m trying to reduce my blood calcium as well. Please let us know if k2 works & how much you are taking. Thanks
I love these vitamin series which is professional and precise. Thank you Dr. Berg !
Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for watching!
@@DrEricBergDCCan you please advise whether it’s ok ro take D+K2 for those with heterozygous Leiden syndrome? I read once that it might be dangerous and that’s why I never tried it. Thank you very much!

Loving the return of your whiteboard presentations, Dr Berg. 🙏
I’m in the dark skies uk and everyone around me, plus my fav people on utube are all ill just now. My family and I are the only people I know who are currently well… we implement Dr Berg’s advice. Vit D & K keep my shields strong and my system happy.
Thank you Dr Berg 🙏🏻
Have a look at British supplements for d3+k2, it also has msm in from them which is also good for you
Good for you!

By taking your K2 and D3 with animal fat at bedtime, along with your magnesium glycinate, as someone who suffered from chronic insomnia for over 16 years, I’ve been sleeping so much better! I’m actually able to fall asleep without having to wait until I’m nearly delirious with exhaustion, on top of that I’ve been able to roll over and fall back asleep. Something that was impossible for me!
I had a gastric bypass 10 years ago and that didn’t help the sleep situation at all! I suffer from malabsorbtion.
I tried this a few nights ago as all I read was it was a bad idea and noticed I slept better.
I’m going to try this – I had read you should take your D3 in he daytime but I have such bad insomnia, I’m gonna try it ! Thanks !
@@Melody-285 I also drink herbal teas with skullcap, passionflower, poppy (not that kind), chamomile, and valerian among others. I make a blend with about 3-8 tea bags. The passion flower helps stop racing thoughts and the skullcap is calming for anxiety and nerves. Make sure to check with your doc if you’re on any psych meds, heart meds, pregnant that kids of thing. Make sure to take the D with animal fat.
Right. Some of Dr Berg’s videos /articles on nutrients absorption, on the benefits of fasting correctly, on sleep, may be of interest.
I’ve waited for this for a long time. Thanks. And now please one more with D3, K2 AND magnesium, because this is the synergistic cycle 🙏🏻
Don’t leave out zinc
@@borninthelionzden2065 yeah, you’re right. Those 4.
@@borninthelionzden2065
Yes, but in one of his videos he mentioned to not take Zinc same time as oh I can’t remember I think it was magnesium 🤔 goodness I can’t recall all the sudden which one but I believe it was the magnesium…I think he mentioned take Zinc in the morning and magnesium at night (magnesium helps us relax and fall asleep easier).
Some of Dr Berg’s videos /articles on absorption of vitamin D answer this.
@@pamelatimbush3762incorrect. You may want to re-check of his videos on zinc.
Interesting suggestion regarding the ratio .
I’m currently at
125 mcg / 5000 IU of D3
&
180 mcg of MK7
I’ve been on these exact numbers since the start of the year.
Wondering if I should lower the MK7 to 50~
I feel fine otherwise, I’ve done lab work a full physical in July everything came out relatively well with these 2 specifically.
However I did lab work this weekend on total test and vitamin D ,as a follow-up from July’s readings.
Bummer that my Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy level is still at 29
According to this lab, ‘normal’ is 30-59.9ng/ml
Low end yet again 😏
Disappointing considering I live a healthy lifestyle from resistance training/ Muay Thai , evenly balanced diet intake.
I don’t drink, smoke, do any drugs, I’m not even on medications.
Just a bummer..👎
Is that the NOW brand? That’s what I take and it’s the same amount. No, do not lower the amount of k2. Only 100mcg for 10,000 IU is the lowest recommendation I’ve seen. It’s likely not enough. I worry this ratio is only being recommended because it’s what it is in his own product that he sells.
You may need to start at 50k iU of vitamin d3 having such low levels. That happened to me too and I need 50k to make a difference. Per the doctors orders.
@@Booze-mi3vi It’s actually the Jarro Formulas brand I’m taking for both .
I’ve done the NOW brand as well.
( Still use that for other products i.e Vit C & Krill oil).
Ok, I’ll keep the current MK7 amount that I’m on for now.
@@SherrelleWright 50k , wow, that’s a high amount.
I thought they only made up to 10k per capsule as the highest.
Unless you’re taking multiple doses across the day or perhaps it’s something prescribed that’s off-shelf?
@@theironforce3000 ok, yeah Jarrow is a very good brand. It’s possible that it’s what Sherrelle said. I’ve heard of people needing extremely high doses at first. It’s something I wouldn’t do unless under doctor guidance though.
I used to suffer jaw discomfort I associated with grinding and TMJ. It occurred to me recently that I haven’t been suffering that discomfort. I suspect adjusting my diet has actually addressed that. It could be K2 or some of many other improvements I’ve made (such as magnesium, which I do know helped my chronic pain from degenerative disc disease, even before I changed my eating to low-carb.)
@Carbageman
Wow that’s great 👏. I take all those and I have degenerative disc disease and have been taking magnesium for years and I’ve recently been told I grind my teeth by the dentist and they say I have TMJ and I still have pain…in fact I have to have surgery 😢.
May I ask what dose you take of these I thought I was taking what Dr. Berg recommended for the magnesium and K2 but I know I need more of D3 because my doctor wrote a script for 50,000iu because stores don’t carry that dose & of course my insurance wouldn’t cover it said I could get it otc 🤦♀️ yes but not that dose that my Dr says I need ugh.
These companies make us jump through too many hoops and especially when they’re some doctors who truly do want to help us.
Thanks for your help!!! And very happy for you that you don’t suffer anymore 👏👏👏

I’m 64 and my doctor told me to take a Calcium supplement because of loss of bone density and osteoarthritis. I had been also taking 2000 D3. I did this for 2 years. Until I heard about K2 with mK7 from Natto. She never told me about that. I started taking that 4 months ago and stopped taking my Calcium as I increased it in my diet. Thank you Dr. Berg.

It’s nice to other channels talking about this combo of D3+K2 as well. It gives confirmation about the subject matter. Hopefully everyone is right on this but unfortunately and as it often happens in medicine and nutrition, things keep swaying back and forth.
Yes. He’s made more videos on absorption of vitamin D.
I love how easy and thoroughly you explain your recommendations. Best videos on youtube!
Dr Berg, could you expand on this topic more and how Vit D3/K2 relates to the endocrine system? As well as hypercalcium vs hypercalcuria?
Some of Dr Berg’s videos /articles on vitamin d and on calcium address these.
I’ve been taking Vitamin D3 and K2 for about 2 years now . I do up my D3 intake in winter . The sun sets up here at 4:30 pm right now .
It took about 6 months before my arthritis pain went away . I never had a calcified artery . My mom did, she also had osteoporosis . But yet her doctor kept insisting she take calcium supplements . Never mentioned a thing about K2 at all . Also, she never mentioned to purchase natural vitamins . My mom was taking synthetic vitamins . Plus she was on so many meds ! Doctors need to start being held accountable for what they are recommending . I will never step foot in a doctors office again, even if I’m dying .
