Your neck pain might not be spine-related. Your gallbladder is a small sac that hangs beneath your rib cage and connects to the small intestine and liver. When you eat, the gallbladder releases bile into the small intestine to help you break down fat.

Bile is made of cholesterol and bile salts. You can develop gallstones when cholesterol is high and bile salts are low. Before the development of gallstones, you’ll have bile sludge that clogs the ducts, applying pressure to the phrenic nerve that extends to the neck. This causes referred pain in the neck and shoulder area.

Any congestion in the liver or gallbladder can cause unexplained neck pain and shoulder pain. This can’t be fixed with surgery, drugs, a chiropractor, physical therapy, or massage! You must address the root causes: bile deficiency, liver damage, alcohol, and junk food. Address these issues to get rid of referred pain.

Bile salts are a powerful remedy for referred pain from the liver and gallbladder. TUDCA can help thin bile sludge and reduce fat on the liver. It’s also good for the eyes, brain, and pancreas. Increasing taurine is also beneficial, but dietary changes are the best remedy for this problem.

To determine if you’re dealing with pain from the gallbladder or liver, manually massage the area to eliminate congestion. If this is the source of your problem, you’ll feel instant relief from right-side neck pain and shoulder pain.

I asked on another video about how people without a gallbladder are affected by his suggestions. Response was posted “to consult my physician.” Which is not helpful since most stay within the medical guidelines taught in med school. They just want to prescribe something for the symptom.

    • @AliciaBug120 on August 18, 2025 at 10:50 am

The liver is the primary source of bile production. It continues to produce bile even after the gallbladder is removed. Instead of being stored in the gallbladder, bile flows directly from the liver into the small intestine (specifically the duodenum) through the common bile duct. The gallbladder is not a vital organ, and you can live a normal life without it. Protect your liver with digestive enzymes.

I had debilitating neck and shoulder pain for years and finally started a food journal and discovered it was worsening when I ate cold cut sandwiches….I eliminated that from my diet and did well for a long time, then I got on a beef jerky kick when I was working long hours. The jerky was organic and nitrate free allegedly, but again I started having trouble with my neck and shoulder that went away when I stopped eating the jerky. Just a last week I was stuck home without a car and ended up eating hotdogs 3 days in a row which was followed by horrible back neck and shoulder pain that put me in bed for 2 days! I have also noticed some coffee brands flare it up, too! I HIGHLY recommend food journaling, because the problem can be as simple as something you are eating.

My gosh, I had neck pain for 1 week. Advice on using pain medication, physical therapy but since this video I know there’s another issue. I did the check and yes, instant relief in my right shoulder. I’m going back into keto asap. What a timing of this video, thanks again Dr. Berg.

I had a frozen shoulder. Hurt all the time. Could barely do shoulder exercises. Went to a chiropractor and he tried but couldn’t get it to pop. Was laying in bed on my bad shoulder just to see how bad it was that day and had to turn over because of the pain. As I was turning over that shoulder popped very slowly for the first time in decades. Pain started abating. Now it pops on its own every so often and the pain is gone and I can do bench presses and shoulder presses again. I eat a clean whole foods diet, exercise regularly and take supplements

Most welcome, Irma. Fibromyalgia pain often comes from a congested gallbladder. Massage under the right ribcage daily to relieve pressure and related pain. Hope this helps!
