The perfect treatment for diabetes and weight loss

Full video and many more with Dr. Fung:

What is the perfect treatment that can cure type 2 diabetes (!) and lead to effortless weight loss? Listen to the eloquent Dr. Jason Fung describe it in this 12-minute part of a longer interview.

*** Observe: This treatment is extremely effective. If you have diabetes and take blood sugar lowering medication (especially insulin injections) you may need to reduce the doses a lot to avoid potentially dangerous hypoglycemia. You may instantly become too healthy for your medication. ***

In the full 45 minute interview Dr. Fung goes into more detail about exactly how to add fasting to your low-carb diet, important things to consider and how to avoid potential problems.

Dr. Fung is the Asian twin to Dr. Sebi πŸ’• so much respect. This is a person who takes his oath seriously. “Do no harm” πŸ’• very knowledgeable! This is how a doctor’s visit SHOULD go, honestly. So many doctors are way too quick to prescribe medication before thoroughly educating their patients on the science behind their conditions. Medication should ALWAYS be a last resort πŸ’―

      I agree!!

    • pookiroo on March 19, 2022 at 8:15 am

No. He’s not. IMO, people get lost with Dr. Sebi’s message with the herbs and food list. Dr. Fung is simiple, clear, direct & true. If people do what Dr. Fung says, they will cure themselves of diabetes. No cost.

I’m nearly 60 years old, not type 2 diabetic, but I was overweight and feeling unfit and had stiff joints. I gave up sugary foods and seriously cut back carbs such as potatoes, rice and pasta. Also ate much less in general and I lost 30lbs in 4 months and am now feeling 20 years younger. No more stiff joints, a much flatter belly and just feeling great. Certainly works for me.

    • Ken Bar on February 28, 2022 at 3:07 pm

      Did you fast?

    • LTyrell on May 5, 2022 at 2:05 am

As we age our bodies need a lot less food I believe, and that is why middle aged people and older can gain a lot of weight because they are eating what they are used to eating mentally but the body doesn’t need that much any more, so it’s a mismatch. It’s a tough thing in some ways because people have very ingrained habits with food and don’t want to suddenly cut down what they are eating, that is the challenge, to eat about half of what they are used to eating. I find that I don’t get as hungry eating less, I guess smaller portions of lower carb foods help to reduce the rollercoasting blood sugars that can cause that horrible sinking feeling after having been spiked by carbs and then dropping down, creating hunger pangs and other unpleasant feelings leading to craving carbs. Carbs do cause blood glucose spikes so cutting back on starchy/sugary foods and having more protein and a bit of fat which helps to slow down spikes should feel better.

@Reasoner Enlightened I use to think the same as you, I guess because I wasn’t having symptoms at the time. I was diagnosed with pre type 2. I disregarded the whole idea of diabetes because I felt fine. But over the next 20 years, symptoms krept up on me and now I have the beginnings of neuropathy in my toes. My glucose levels are between 145-220 in the morning. The day after I started restricting my carb intake, it slid down to 135 one morning. I just began my journey. Any weight loss will be an added prize. Lol but when you start having symptoms of type 1, will power has nothing to do with it. Fact is… At that point, your in fear of your life. You go into defence mode. Figure out the problem and, like the Dr said, fix IT!. VERY knowledgeable man. Be but yeah carbs and hidden carbs are literally killing folks! And they have no idea that that large chocolate shake they just drank had 120 carbs in it. That’s begging for insulin resistance! Like a drug.

  4. Kyle Roesner on June 25, 2020 at 1:55 am

I was diagnosed with type 2 and did EVERYTHING my doctors said. Did the xigduo, metformin, bp pills’ statins. I still kept getting sicker. I was a mess.
I listened to Dr Fung a few times and followed his logic. In a matter of 3 or 4 months I took myself off all medications. For the last year my BP, cholesterol and A1C have all been great. Thanks to Dr Fung I have a normal life and hope for the furure.

    • Carrie Weaver on October 3, 2022 at 12:17 am

@Charlie Beecher Low carb, less than 20mg. carbs per day. Eat all fresh vegetables with a little fruit. No wheat, white potatoes, sugar, beans, pasta, rice, no grains and no vegetable oil! because they are all high in carbs. If it comes in a box, bag, can, or jar with more that one ingredient (not counting water) it is no good! Eat all of your meals from the produce and meat department. One ingredient meats, one ingredient vegetables, and one ingredient fruits. In the beginning limit your fruits to occasional berries. After you lose the weight you want to lose you can add more fruits. You can get the carb counts for your meals on google. But if you are going to limit your carbs to 20mg per day you must replace those carbs with fat of some kind.. You can use real butter, (not margarine) lard or animal fat to cook with, olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil. And you must take electrolytes! I know that we have been mislead all of our lives about the fat myth. believe me it was hard for me to except at first! But I started slow. First I just cut out all sugar! Then I cut out anything that turns to sugar ie: wheat, or anything made with wheat, pasta, white potatoes, rice. Then all fruits except berries. The hardest thing for me is the bread!!! but you learn to deal! At first I was not happy with my progress for the first month and I almost quit but I stuck in there and after the second month I ha lost 10lbs. I am now on my fourth month and Im down 40lbs. And I am off all diabetes medicines and off high blood pressure medicine! I will never go back!! Good luck on your journey!

    • Marna Sletten on October 16, 2022 at 6:21 pm

@Nelson Artemio I am glad you did not take the Metformin meds. % years ago Metformin almost killed me. Dropped my blood pressure very low. Ended up in hospital for a few days

    • Carrie Weaver on November 22, 2022 at 3:06 am

@Charlie Beecher It is very simple to do, all you have to do is cut out all high carb foods such as 1. sugar 2. wheat (that includes bread and pasta) 3. rice 4. potatoes 5. corn and do intermittent fasting and after about a month Walla no more diabetes!! Its really that simple!

After a successful 72 hour fast, two days of eating and a full day of fasting yesterday my sugar levels are at 4 this morning – no shakes and feeling great. No medication. In the past when I had a 4 with metformin and insulin I had the shakes and binged on sugar to feel right. Additionally, I am 5 pounds away from the lower range of my ideal weight and my stomach is the flattest I have seen it since I came back from Greece 20 years ago where I literally walked my butt off for a month.

    • Suzanne Glaser on November 30, 2022 at 1:03 am

@Kyrin Slaughter yes! Dr. Fung. My family doctor referred me to him and Dr. Berg. Intermittent fasting is key and clean Keto makes a huge difference. Between the two of them and eating healthy this way makes a huge difference. I remain one of the very few who have not been sick nor had any symptoms throughout the recent plague.

  6. 73F100 on July 5, 2020 at 7:22 pm

Dr. Fung is absolutely correct about intermittent fasting. As one of my strategies of correcting insulin resistance in my own body I began intermittent fasting. I eat nothing from about 7 PM to noon the next day. It has worked wonders. I am not hungry at all each morning and do not crave breakfast. My A1C is going down.

Hello as a paramedic I was taught type 1 diabetics are born with it, and type 2 acquire it due to lifestyle. . That being said my wife’s nephew was a healthy 14-year-old young man and in a matter of 4 weeks became type -1 losing 45 pounds almost overnight, the doctors say it is a form of diabetic autoimmune disease, up to this point I had never heard or observed this before. Do diabetes or autoimmune diseases run in your child’s family history? I personally would monitor your child’s blood sugar 3 x daily, talk to their pediatrician and stay vigilant.

Dr Fung is my hero! I was diagnosed last May with A1C 12. I took jardiance duo and metfo.
I have done the combination of intermittent fasting, exercise and low carb diet.
In the 2nd month of it, my doc told me to go off med after seeing my daily FG everyday for a week. Iwas very happy, and keep doing what i have been doing till now (and, i hope, forever)
Last month, I checked my recent A1C and I am on 5,5. Couldnt be happier than this.

He is truly a hero.. Thank you , doc.

Dr Fung is my hero. In January 2021 I was 55 yrs old in menopause and more than 100 lbs over weight. I had quit smoking the year before and in menopause. Even though I thought I was eating healthier the weight was staying on. I was too exhausted to exercise and was restricting my calories. I started watching Dt Fung. I tossed my high carb cereal and low fat options and went strictly low carb about 20 net carbs a day and started intermittent fasting 16 hours a day. I am doing healthy keto more plant based keto and extended fasts for up to 3 days a week. I am 15 lbs away from loosing 130 lbs. I am so thankful for you Dr Fung. You changed my life. 😊
