Let's talk about the amazing benefits of berberine. Berberine is a natural chemical in certain plants.

Berberine is most known for helping to support healthy blood sugar levels and making insulin more sensitive.

Berberine attacks insulin resistance, which is at the heart of most health problems like a fatty liver, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and high LDL cholesterol. Anything that helps decrease insulin resistance will also help support weight loss.

Other potential benefits of berberine:
• It helps shrink plaque in the arteries
• It has antithrombotic effects
• It may help improve the symptoms of Alzheimer's
• It greatly improves the dawn phenomenon
• It can support the conversion of vitamin D to its active form
• It can help prevent cardiac muscle fibrosis after injury
• It's neuroprotective
• It can help improve your mood
• It may help with the side effects of withdrawal
• It's antimicrobial, antiviral, and antibacterial
• It can help support your immune system
• It can help reverse mitochondrial damage and increase the number of mitochondria

Berberine is one of my favourite supplements, though I’m not diabetic, yet I think it helped me avoiding diabetes so far. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

    • Claudia Neil on June 16, 2023 at 11:32 am

Is it the Berberine GlucoGold that you take?

    • J R on June 16, 2023 at 2:10 pm

Do you snack late at night and do you eat sugar, bread, soda, etc? If no, you’ll likely not become diabetic whether on Berberine or not.

    • ambientTakeover on June 16, 2023 at 4:00 pm

@J R According to what the doc says in the video though, it can still protect your heart, brain, immune system and mitochondrial damage, so it’s still not useless to take if you’re not taking it for diabetic reasons. (added the word for* in edit lol)

    • Sabrina and husband on June 16, 2023 at 5:52 pm

@Claudia Neil No I think it’s called Nutri-Things. Unfortunately I took the capsules from the original bag & I put them in a jar. So as far as I remember this is the name of the company.

    • Sabrina and husband on June 16, 2023 at 5:57 pm

@J R Not really, majority of times I skip dinner and I’m on keto, but sometimes when I go outside I eat carbs. I rarely do sugary drinks. Most of the days it’s either water or kefir with my meals.

I’m curious if you would take a deep dive into the nutritional value of french creamy cheeses like camembert, maroilles, livarot, etc. They’re not even legal to export in the USA, and from what I heard, even if the US produces great local cheeses, they’re nothing like EU methods because of FDA regulations. Similar to how Whiskey made in the USA is allowed to be flavored in stainless steel tanks with european oak wood chips whereas here in France its production its legally bound to having to be aged in actual wooden barrels not soaking wood chips in metal tanks. FDA changes a lot of stuff, and compared to EU norms, it still feels like the wild west for you guys. I don’t think I met more than 2, maybe 3 people who had a peanut allergy over here for instance in my 30 years of existence.

    • Bluebird gramma on June 16, 2023 at 1:07 pm

Very interesting. I’m inclined to think we have bad health info from our u s a 3letter gov’t entities

    • Mike Rose on June 16, 2023 at 2:33 pm

At first glance, there’s a huge difference between Raw Milk vs Pasteurized Milk. The Pasteurization process kills the living microorganisms and destroys nutrients. People who have issues with Milk, usually don’t with Raw Milk, and you can taste the difference. Hard to find though.

    • MetaSamsara ∞ on June 16, 2023 at 3:03 pm

@Mike Rose Yeah we have some raw milk here too but mostly it’s sterilized @ UHT milk unless you buy farmer stuff in the organic fridge section or directly from a farmer. IDK though I quite like milk haha and always drank UHT half-fat w/o issues.
The FDA just has low standards and their regulation process is a front for making bank and fining companies. Very little actual testing goes behind it. At least the food quality is somewhat better here but when you can’t afford to feed yourself fully, a cancer in 20-40 years doesnt seem so bad does it? The problem with FDA is the same with all federals, they have vested interests, and control over power, justice AND economy all in one. The separation of power isn’t a tradition it is a necessity to keep them in check but money has loooong corrupted the system. Happens here too, we just have stricter rules on food production and more ancient methods we refined over the centuries of natural selection.

    • Bluebird gramma on June 16, 2023 at 3:31 pm

@Mike Rose I am the product of raw milk Era, only food/liquid my tummy could handle right after I was born, early 1930’s

    • Krillo Durum on June 16, 2023 at 5:35 pm

EU food regulation is so much ahead of time, specifically in France and Norway. And you know what? The food tastes great there even without MSG and coloring additions. I am able to compare that because I was living in different parts of the world. Unfortunately, some countries allow too much synthetic chemistry in their food industries. MSG is a screaming example of an overused substance which can cause serious health consequences, especially for elder people.

Berberine, oh my gosh, I started to take this as I have AF along with thyroid, I researched all the things I needed for thyroid and now I don’t take medication, I feel so much better and then along came berberine, I’m back to operating at a 100 miles an hour just like I use to, thank you Dr Berg for all your help

    • Francisco Sifuentes on June 16, 2023 at 2:19 pm

What else you take for AF

    • EvaiAten on June 16, 2023 at 6:20 pm

Dear Josie, I really would appreciate so much if you could tell me how you got off the medication for your thyroid…? I have hypothyroidism caused from Hashimotos and I need to heal it and get off the medication. I’m doing Keto and IF for 15 months now. How did you manage…? Thank you so much, have a lovely weekend! 🎆🔆🌻

    • I8DPIE on June 16, 2023 at 7:16 pm

How long did it take for the berberine to help? I’m taking 100mg for about a week and haven’t noticed anything yet.

    • josie holland on June 16, 2023 at 7:55 pm

@I8DPIE more or less straight away, not sure if taking other supplements help it along the way, eg zinc, magnesium, wheatgrass, trial and error

    • josie holland on June 17, 2023 at 6:06 am

@Francisco Sifuentes D3, B1 and hawthorn but not every day with that one

  5. Kathy Frazer on June 16, 2023 at 2:14 pm

Dr Berg I watch all of your videos and love them, but it is overwhelming to find the plan of supplements that applies to each individual. I am on a cancer journey , through surgery and chemo but recurrence will be when, not if. I would love to see a video that lays out a path on what tests need to be done with your doctor to determine your best approach to supplements. I get weary eating a large number of capsules daily, it is costly as well. Could you lay out an approach to determine what are the right choices? Thank you

    • Stacy Dery on June 16, 2023 at 3:10 pm

Look for a naturopath who does live blood analysis!!! It is SO fascinating and tells you sooo much about your body. Then they tell you what your body would benefit most from, cleanse and intake wise.

    • I Believe on June 16, 2023 at 5:43 pm

The Barberry bush is commonly sold in the US nurseries as an ornamental becoming fairly large (2-3m across) when mature. Easy to identify from the round red leaves and numerous thorns. Each bush can yield about 1-2 pounds and the taste of the tiny fruit shown in this video is reminiscent of apple and cranberry. I enjoy these in the 90 second chia muffins with sprouted pumpkin seeds. Expect a measured drop 20mg/dL in glucose levels after ingesting (around a tablespoon)

    • ~Bonfire Bradley~ on June 17, 2023 at 4:30 am

Thanks! I just watched this and was wondering if Barberry was a good source of Berberine it sounds like it would be just from the name. I have read that some Native American tribes considered it a sacred herb and used it as medicine.
Heart and bloodsugar issues run in both sides of my family so I like knowing what foods are good for preventing those issues.

Thank you so much Dr Berg . Your videos saved me. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2019 my A1C was at 7.5 I got so scared because I knew someone that was so sick with kidney failure and all the complications because of diabetes. Thank goodness I came across your videos and my A1C went down to 5.3 in 3 months of Keto and intermittent fasting and walking 6 miles 3 times a week. I never had taken any medication for diabetes. I always will be thankful for all your videos.🙏🙏🙏

Which milligram is best? I’m seeing 400mg, 500mg, 1000mg, 1200mg, 2000mg, 3400mg, 4700mg, 13100mg…etc. it keeps changing. Also, some say Berberine plus Ceylon cinnamon or chromium or HCL (not sure what that is) or Bitter Melon with Turmeric Milk Thistle, or Alpha Lipoic Acid & Grape Seed. It’s all very confusing and I’m not sure where to start or which will help me. I feel like some of them are just throwing out key words that sound good, but I’m unsure. I’ve been LADA Type 1.5 Diabetic for years now and am trying to get this under control.

I can’t say much quite yet, but after incorporating berberine into my diet for about 2 weeks, my weight actually shifted downward after months of battling what is most likely insulin resistance. Do your research; give it a try!

I started taking berberine right after I saw Dr Berg’s video. I was thinking it would take a week or so for it to kick in, but lo and behold, the effects were immediate!! The sensation of constant hunger disappeared, and I no longer eat as an ogre! Plus, the level of energy increased tremendously!!! I’m blown away – but also very thankful Dr Berg!!!

You are the smartest man I know! I am a retired RN who avoids the medical field as much as possible. Last year I had gallstones & I listened to all of your videos about gallstones. It took awhile to figure out what worked for me ( I muscle tested everything) but I was amazed at how the supplements helped me be more comfortable until one day God healed me. Thank you so much for your videos!!

I have been enjoying the benefits of Berberine for almost a year now. In addition to walking, change in diet, and elimination of snacking, I did a gentle version of intermittent fasting. I do feel better.

  20. steven williams on June 23, 2023 at 1:40 am

I stopped taking Metformin three years ago by taking a combination Bererine, GABA, NAC and Goats Rue. After a while Berberine was all that I needed for blood sugar control along with intermittent fasting. I still take GABA NAC, but for other purposes.
