Let's talk about sulforaphane. There are a lot of interesting health benefits of sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane is a phytonutrient that has been studied extensively. You can get sulforaphane from many different plants, but the best source of sulforaphane is broccoli sprouts or broccoli microgreens.

Broccoli sprouts or broccoli microgreens have 10 to 100 times more sulforaphane than broccoli. The majority of nutrients in plants, especially phytonutrients, are in the early stages of growth. Sprouts and microgreens also have much fewer anti-nutrients, which can irritate the gut.

Sprouts and microgreens are incredibly nutritious and are great choices if you have a hard time consuming large amounts of vegetables. You can consume fewer of them to get a good amount of nutrients and phytonutrients.

Potential benefits of microgreens and sprouts (sulforaphane):
1. May help prevent chronic disease
2. Has potent anti-inflammatory effects
3. May have anticancer effects
4. May help inhibit carcinogens
5. Has potent antimicrobial effects
6. Has powerful blood sugar effects
7. May be beneficial in preventing heart disease
8. Has been studied for autism
9. Has anti-aging effects
10. Helps support the brain

Thank you dr. Berg. I’m very grateful for everything we learn from you. You mentioned broccoli sprouts in an earlier video, being helpful when you have leaky guts. So I bought them and just started on my first batch.

organic freeze dried are much easier to deal with ive found..they keep their nutrients when freeze dried..i just put a scoop 2/3mg in 70 degree water..let it sit 10 mins then sip..

    • NowIAmAwake on January 27, 2023 at 1:16 pm

@benny stokes thank you, but in my country that’s to expensive for my budget and besides that, I like the process of growing them in my kitchen

    • benny stokes on January 27, 2023 at 3:50 pm

      @NowIAmAwake unlucky

    • benny stokes on January 27, 2023 at 3:51 pm

    • NowIAmAwake on January 27, 2023 at 3:59 pm

@benny stokes fortunately the seeds are rather cheap here.

@Always Learning Thats a bit obtuse coming from a person who claims to be “Always learning”, how bout you change your name to Always Parroting.
I actually suggested this info to him quite awhile ago for his own benefit and maybe others, so I guess medical school or even just information is just parroting others work and not trying be helpful?
This isnt a case of someone biting another person work, like making youtube shorts in the name of ‘exposure’. Its medical information free to all and warrants actual exposure.

I learned about it from one of your other videos and then kept researching. It is supposed to prevent and remove brain plaques. Ever since I grow my own broccoli sprouts and use them in my vegetable smoothies.

    • Nazeer Gaad on January 27, 2023 at 12:19 pm

Kindly tell how to grow broccoli sprouts ?

    • carla89cc on January 27, 2023 at 12:38 pm

@Nazeer Gaad check YT videos. Grow them in jars or buy special jars or plant in trays

    • Nazeer Gaad on January 27, 2023 at 12:55 pm

      @carla89cc Thanks

    • Merrith Wintermute on January 27, 2023 at 1:21 pm

I’m curious to know.. what else do your smoothies consist of? Thanks

    • Tess D'Urberville on January 27, 2023 at 1:52 pm

@Nazeer Gaad  I grow mine on special sprouting trays on sprouting paper and seed starter soil. Much better results than jars. If I find the video, I’ll post.

  6. Richard Johnson on January 27, 2023 at 11:23 am

I always have a mix of Broccoli, Radishe and Alfalfa sprouts growing in my kitchen a 7 day cycle so easy. My wife and I love the mix of flavors.

    • Julie Larson on January 27, 2023 at 6:25 pm

Do you grow yours in soil? I just bought the glass jar kit. Not nearly as many nutrients is soil based.

    • Richard Johnson on January 27, 2023 at 6:42 pm

@Julie Larson I grow my in a glass jar got the screens off the internet 2 1/2 Tablespoon fills a quart jar real full

    • Julie Larson on January 27, 2023 at 6:45 pm

@Richard Johnson that’s what I have also but I am assuming they don’t have nearly as many nutrients as soil grown.

    • Richard Johnson on January 27, 2023 at 6:46 pm

@Julie Larson You don’t always have to have best of every thing I eat sprouts every day

    • Julie Larson on January 27, 2023 at 6:50 pm

@Richard Johnson 🤣🤣🤣. Well it sure is easy!

  7. DutchGuy on January 27, 2023 at 11:38 am

Dr Berg, thanks for again another interesting video 👌🏽👌🏽 This can really affect peoples lives positively. Advice we never would get from our doctor because mostly they dont care. Greetings from Netherlands🇱🇺

  8. Pedro Diniz on January 27, 2023 at 11:44 am

So basically, sprouts and microgreens are cheaper and faster to produce, have more nutrients and phytonutrients and fewer antinutrients and cause less inflammation. Consequently, you don’t need to eat as many of them as you would need from full-grown vegetables. Unless there is some crazy catch hidden there, I can’t see any reason to make some major changes to my salad ingredients from now on. Thanks Dr. Berg!

    • Miles Graydon on January 27, 2023 at 4:39 pm

@Holla At The KI D That’s what I do. I try to grow a batch every week and put them on almost everything.

    • rebecca on January 27, 2023 at 4:49 pm

@Ethel Rizarri you can grow them in a mason jar with a mesh lid

    • Ann Rhodes on January 27, 2023 at 5:20 pm

@alexis sabbagh yes, the plastic containers are crunchy and delicious but they can give you constipation.

    • Patricia Carlyle on January 27, 2023 at 5:32 pm

@Holla At The KI D be sure to grow in soil for optimal health of the sprouts and you. Dr Berg has talked about this even on his Live today January 27,2023. He is going to be having a growing channel to help us grow the Best food! 🙌🏻

I Like the Idea that you don’t need to eat as much. By The Way I have been applying your advice into my work out program and I am very happy with the results. I can see where we have to be dedicated towards overriding bad eating habits especially carbs and sugar. I have found that fasting 2 to 3 hours longer in the morning along with working out at that time extremely effective. Thanks Doc c];-)

Dr. Berg, Thank you for producing these videos. You have helped me more than any doctor ever has. Just started your protocol for low stomach acid and acid reflux and have seen good results and its only been 3 days. I grow microgreens and find them delicious and now I know they are definitely healthy for me. Great info.

  13. The Grand Turk on January 27, 2023 at 1:40 pm

Does anyone else feel like Dr. Berg releases a relevant video exactly when a specific subject is on your mind?
I have been eating broccoli microgreens religiously for the past 2 years. Now, I’m tempted to learn how to grow my own.

I’ve just started. They are easy to grow. The only difficult part is that they need frequent rinsing so they don’t clump together; they have a remarkable root system.

    • nukhet ucin on January 27, 2023 at 5:53 pm

      Where to buy this?

  14. Dora on January 27, 2023 at 2:03 pm

We eat broccoli all the time but broccoli sprouts aren’t something we see on every dinner table. Broccoli sprouts are grabbing wellness world’s attention and for good reason. Thanks Dr Berg, great teaching. Informative as always.

  15. B E on January 27, 2023 at 2:09 pm

You can grow broccoli sprouts in a mason jar and freezing them at about the 5-day mark helps retain the most Sulforaphane. Thanks for putting it back into my universe. I had studied this years ago.

    • PiP on January 27, 2023 at 6:16 pm

I didn’t know sprouts were freezable. Good to know! 👍

I can’t thank you enough for putting me wise to potassium deficiency! I switched to one of those ” no salt c substitutes, and I feel much better. No more arrhythmia

  18. Verseau on January 27, 2023 at 4:08 pm

Recipe: microgreens (usually broccoli sprouts for me), 1 stalk of organic celery chopped up, a big spoonful of sauerkraut (including the juice), a slice of avocado, and a sprinkling of raw pine nuts (pignolias). You don’t need any dressing because the sauerkraut juice is perfect on it.

  19. Earth Mamma on January 27, 2023 at 4:50 pm

So glad you mentioned soil versus hydroponics. I’m a firm believer in the soil. Nice to hear the same from you.

  20. Andre on January 27, 2023 at 5:12 pm

Glad to see this info getting around more, thanks Doc.
Broccoli sprouts are concentrated sources of sulforaphane, a type of isothiocyanate. Damaging broccoli sprouts – when chewing, chopping, or freezing – triggers an enzymatic reaction in the tiny plants that produces sulforaphane.
