Today, we’re going to talk about the warning signs of a fatty liver and what to do for a fatty liver.

There really is no “first sign” of a fatty liver. When you first start developing a fatty liver, there are no symptoms at all.

It’s important to be aware of this because many people have a fatty liver and don’t even know it. People will start to notice signs once the condition has progressed.

Signs of a fatty liver:
• A protruding mid-section
• Insulin resistance

Fifty-nine percent of the fat in your liver originates from outside your liver—it’s fat from other places in your body that end up in the liver.

Twenty-six percent of fat in the liver comes from the liver itself. The liver makes fat from glucose, and insulin is supposed to stop this process.

But, because of dysfunctional fat and insulin resistance, the liver is making sugar uncontrollably. The third source of fat in the liver is dietary fat from consuming sugar.

I believe the top cause of a fatty liver is a high-carb diet. The good news is that the liver is the only organ that can completely regenerate. However, there is a point of no return, so it’s time to act now.

Natural things to do for a fatty liver:
1. Get on the Healthy Keto® diet and do intermittent fasting
2. Exercise regularly
3. Consume one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in your water a few times a day

Truly love your explanations in terms we can understand Dr Eric. My doctor told me many years ago that I have a fatty liver, that’s where the explanation stopped. He gave no indication of concern or explain anything I needed to change or do to help the problem. I’ve started low carb around Christmas, far from perfect but I have lost 20 pounds and feel heaps better. Thank you so much for true explanations and descriptions and more importantly the solution. I’m sure you have saved lives!!!!!

  9. Basel on March 14, 2023 at 12:01 pm

I’m 40 and was diagnosed with fatty liver and diabetes 2 years ago. Since then I’ve done keto and IF 16:8 and sometimes OMAD along with high intensity exercise. I’ve lost 80 pounds so far and I still have to go down 20 pounds to reach an ideal weight. However, I still wake up with high blood sugar around 120. Yesterday, my blood sugar after 20 hours fast was 138. It’s so frustrating 😢

    • I'm happy on March 14, 2023 at 4:42 pm

      What is OMAD?

    • Lorena McGovern on March 14, 2023 at 4:50 pm

A national epidemic that nobody talks about. My general practitioner never told me and now I have cirrhosis.. Fortunately Dr. Bergs videos have helped heal my liver. The scarred part will never recover but new scarring has abaited. My gastroenterologist is very happy with the results.

    • Tony C on March 14, 2023 at 4:15 pm

Don’t blame your doctor. You can look in the mirror and know you need to make changes. We all know what’s good and bad for us. More people need to take responsibility for themselves what they put into their bodies.

    • Tasia M on March 14, 2023 at 4:22 pm

@Tony C true somewhat; but these doctors will tell you nothing is wrong. I went to the doctor about my upper belly getting bigger and bigger and she told me it was menopause;I found out that it was fatty liver

    • C. on March 14, 2023 at 4:47 pm

@randa az Really? Why didn’t he heal everyone else then?

    • EmmySue on March 14, 2023 at 5:12 pm

Stan – what exactly was the cause of the cirrhosis? What were the symptoms? I hope you will share so we can all learn something about the different causes of cirrhosis. I know there are quite a few causes. Thanks!

    • Tony C on March 14, 2023 at 6:06 pm

Tasia m Hope you fired that doctor and went to a different one then.

I was diagnosed with fatty liver a few months before beginning IF. I have lost 60 lbs since then thanks to fasting and to your channel of course—I do mostly low carb and exercise almost daily. I need to go back and check if my liver has improved. Very excited to see!!!

Almost every issue has been addressed and re-addressed with new, updated information by Dr. Berg. Just type in his name in the search and add your issue question. Most likely a video will show up and probably several.

Just yesterday I had my MRE, showed 3.1kPa suggestive of grade1 fibrosis. I am following keto for 2 months. I watched tens of Dr Berg’s videos on fatty liver. I also have gallstones and sludge. Source is diabetes, Blood pressure, dislipidimea for 15 years, and I am 42. I want to overcome NASH. I will do everything that’s possible for me. IF & Keto are the only tools I know of, thanks Dr Berg’s for that.

Dr. Berg, thanks for all you do for our community. You have an awesome following, and it’s because you produce results backed up by scientific data and outcomes. I’ve been on keto and IF for 11 weeks now, I’ve lost 50 pounds, and I know I’m on the right path for the rest of my life now. Can’t express enough how much your videos and attitude has helped me and soooooo many others. Thank you so much. 🙏

  20. Tropical Gardening Cyprus on March 14, 2023 at 6:54 pm

Thank you Doctor, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve fixed my insulin resistance completely even though am still very overweight, just by cutting bread, deep fried foods and sugar for a year now. Now I can easily fast for 18 hours and am pushing it for 20. Already lost 50 pounds during this last year, now I don’t have to wake up every 3 hours to urinate, I don’t need midday naps, I don’t have up and down in my mood, but, I have to loose a lot more, so I’ve come to the point where I’ll introduce some walking in the equation. Note, I lost 50 just by fasting and cutting bread, deep fried foods and sugar, am not into full keto because I love rice and fruits way too much to give up on them.
