In this video, I’m going to show you how to make natural toothpaste to help eliminate tartar and prevent it from coming back.

Tartar is a calcified, pale, yellow, hard substance that accumulates on your teeth. It can lead to gingivitis as well as bad breath. Tartar is made up of a colony of bacteria that survives in something called a biofilm.

Biofilms contain bacteria, fungi, yeast, and candida. Tartar biofilms ferment carbohydrates in your mouth and release lactic acid, which can leach away your calcium and cause cavities.

Many ancient cultures used natural toothpaste, but these recipes were very abrasive and wore down the teeth.

This homemade toothpaste recipe is far more gentle yet still effective at removing plaque. To make this toothpaste, combine the following ingredients:

•3 drops of either clove oil, peppermint oil, or cinnamon oil, or a pinch of turmeric powder
•¼ teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
•¼ teaspoon baking soda
•¼ teaspoon raw honey or manuka honey
•½ cup water

Mix these ingredients and brush your teeth with the mixture using a soft bristle toothbrush twice per day.

Vitamin K2 has also shown promising results in removing and preventing tartar buildup.

This is very interesting. I was asking my dentist if I limit my carbs, if it might help with tartar buildup, and he said probably not, so I’m glad to hear of someone that has actual experience in doing so. Thank you!

Former T2D here. Started keto lifestyle three years ago and put diabetes in to total remission. A wonderful side effect is that my teeth health is vastly improved. Very little plaque – although I do brush with baking soda once a week – so yes, I totally agree that low carb is helpful in many ways. Hope this helps.

I’ve been making this toothpaste on my own for about a year….minus the honey. (Expensive and messy, but I understand the properties why he included it). I’m glad Dr Berg is sharing this information. The baking soda, clove oil and peppermint oil, mixed with a little hydrogen peroxide. My mouth feels so clean after and the last few routine dental cleanings were quick, because there was VERY little tartar to scrape. Clove bud essential oil also helps with enamel remineralization. Get yourself a good organic oil!

I noticed a marked improvement when I was consuming large salads and a high quantity of vegetables. Limited to almost zero flour based products, no processed sugar and small quantities of meat. I ate more eggs, and small fish. But I think the increase in dark leafy veggies was responsible for my whiter and healthier teeth.

I use baking soda with clove oil occasionally. Now with the formula you suggest, it should solve my tartar problem and periodontal disease. Thank you for sharing this.😊😊

  15. @dustindewind3806 on January 14, 2024 at 3:53 pm

I had gingivitis and lots of tarter. Eventually the dentist said I had abscesses under my teeth and wanted to take 4 of my teeth out. I went as far as to schedule it. Then a couple of days before I called and told them I wanted to try something first. So I had a thought that it might be candida since I had leaky gut in the past. I began hitting the candida hard with oil of oregano and garlic and anything I could find that killed it. I removed all sugar from my diet too. Within days my teeth and gums felt better. My dentist said later that he had never seen a mouth turn around so fast. He told me “ whatever you’re doing keep doing it and you’ll have your teeth the rest of your life”. Now I only go for cleanings once a year and it takes 5 minutes. I don’t make tarter anymore. Thanks dr. Berg for your videos.

    • @sweetbeep on January 14, 2024 at 6:26 pm

Thanks again Dr. Berg. As always, your posts are awesome. I have been doing ” root planing” for several years ( dentist gave me a special round toothpic holder. U break off the 1/3rd end of a round pic, then scrape along the gumline. Nasty process, but works). After that, I take about a tsp of baking soda, add a spash of hydrogen peroxide and make it into a slurry ala toothpaste consistency. I then brush my teeth thoroughly , being bent over the sink. Do not swallow this mix. Rinse the mouth well 3x, and you’ll immediatey feel much better. I do this once per week. Stay strong and well Dr Berg. We need lots more lije you!
