Let’s talk about coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).

Coenzyme Q10 is a helper molecule inside your mitochondria that helps make energy within your cells. It also helps stabilize the membrane in the cells, preventing any leakage of electrons. If you don’t have enough coenzyme Q10, you’ll lose energy.

Top benefits of coenzyme Q10:
• It increases energy
• It reduces fatigue (especially while exercising)
• It increases your oxygen while exercising
• It improves your repair while exercising and overall exercise performance
• It can help support a healthy heart
• It acts as an antioxidant
• It supports the arteries

Foods high in coenzyme Q10:
1. Heart muscle
2. Organ meats
3. Fatty fish
4. Extra virgin olive oil

Exercise indirectly increases the amount of CoQ10 your body makes. You can also get CoQ10 from supplements.

Top things that inhibit coenzyme Q10:
1. Statins
2. Age
3. Low vitamin C, B6, folate, or alpha-lipoic acid
4. Anything that damages the mitochondria
5. Stress

Once in a while I buy a primal blend of ground beef, ground liver, and ground heart. Sounds like I should be buying and eating it more often. Thanks for the info Dr. Berg.

Exactly. I’d rather get my nutrients from food sources before resorting to supplementation.

Hey Dr Berg , thanks again for more great content 😊 I was wondering if you can help me , 7 months ago I suffered from a traumatic brain injury consisting of a bleed on the brain , fractured skull , and snapped nerve endings. Watching a lot of your videos with information on brain health I believe this has helped me so much with my recovery thank you. I do still have 0 taste or smell which is really upsetting , I was wondering if you had any advice in maybe how I could start regenerating this ? My neurology doctor can only say I don’t know if it will ever come back and isn’t helpful at all which is upsetting. It would be amazing to hear back from you, I have other complications also but thought I’d start with this. Thanks for everything Dr Berg 😊

    • NippleSauce on March 31, 2023 at 12:08 pm

Hey Tyrone. I had an sTBI almost three years ago now and had lost all of my sense of smell and taste as well. So long as you eat a healthy diet consistently, you’ll probably be able to get some of your sense of smell and taste back. For me, it took around 1.5 years to get a tiny bit of it back. And another year later a little more of it came back. Granted, it is nowhere near as strong as it used to be, however, that isn’t all a bad thing. I mean, I don’t notice the horrible smell that could occur in public restrooms anymore, haha.

My worst lasting issue is that I got sensorineural hearing loss in one ear and a broken bone in the other ear…and the doctors near me are rather unknowledgeable and so I had to travel far to get a CAT scan analyzed and then get the broken bone replaced with a 3D printed one.

In the end, it definitely takes a lot of time and is often stressful when things are different than you remember them being in the past. But don’t worry and try not to stress! Because you’ll eventually get it all back! I’m hoping for more recovery by my five year post-accident mark! And you will definitely see some beneficial changes within the next year!

      Best of luck, brother!

One clearly sees the astonishing amount of work you must be doing daily because what you give us is knowledge that no other doctor or scientist gives. And all in a simple and clear way that everyone can understand. This is invaluable knowledge. You’re amazing and I’m learning so much from your lessons. Alas, due to my difficult past and its consequences it is not easy for me to know what the right treatment is for me, but I will get there. I just would like to thank you sincerely for what you give to me personally. God bless you, Dr. Berg.
Ps: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dr. Berg! Sincere thanks!!! I wish you health, peace, love, joy and laughter and may God bless you abundantly. 🌹💙💙💙🌸🐝🥦🫐🌱

I’ve been checking out the purposes and benefits of CoQ10 and you are spot on. The statins block not only the production of LDL cholesterol but also CoQ10, the loss of which appears to contribute to the muscle and joint pains caused by statins.
I’m SO browned off with the harms caused by statins, the serious depletion and blocking of so many beneficial vitamins, enzymes etc. The manufacturers don’t give a rat’s a*se about our health. Along with my low carb diet (10kg lost so far), I started regular gentle exercise but Crestor has forced me to stop by causing terrible joint and muscle pains – from gentle exercise and stretching! That drug stops people leading a healthier lifestyle and I bloody object!

    • Verse Writer on March 31, 2023 at 1:31 pm

Try drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted with water every day. Dr Berg has a video on this.

    • Wanda Yonder on March 31, 2023 at 2:23 pm

@Verse Writer yes, I take apple cider vinegar every day, either a tablespoon in my salad dressing or a teaspoon in water on the days I don’t have salad.

    • Barry Anderson on March 31, 2023 at 3:22 pm

@Verse Writer Yes Correct and I do this every morning and this is so important .

    • ThisorThat on March 31, 2023 at 4:44 pm

@wandayonder9772, why don’t you stop taking the meds after telling your doctor the problems it is causing? High cholesterol is not a predictor of heart attacks. After all, you know your body better than anyone else. Just a thought.

  12. Helios on March 31, 2023 at 11:40 am

COQ10 is one of the few supplements I noticed that actually works. On days when I do not get enough sleep, I take it. Makes a difference in terms of energy.

Crazy, I just had beef heart for dinner last night! It’s really tasty, it’s not gamy like liver. I’d say it tastes closer to steak than anything else, though not quite the same. It’s great to marinade the same way you would a steak, then slow cook for a few hours, highly recommend
