Let's talk about salt sensitivity and the dangers of consuming too much salt.

Consuming too much sodium can lead to certain health problems, including:
• Heart disease
• High blood pressure
• Stroke
• Edema
• Increased mortality

The body tends to hold sodium when a person has a potassium deficiency. You can even have salt sensitivity, which causes you to retain sodium and water. But, again, this could be caused by a potassium deficiency.

Sodium and potassium work together in the body. The daily requirements for sodium are 2300 mg, but the daily requirements for potassium are 4700 mg. You really need twice as much potassium as sodium.

Many people aren't consuming enough potassium in their diet but consume a lot of sodium. A genetic problem can also cause some people to be salt sensitive.

I believe one of the best things you can do for salt sensitivity is to increase your potassium. I don't think a low-salt diet is the answer. You don't want to end up having a potassium deficiency and a sodium deficiency.

You need sodium and potassium to support the body in many different ways. If you're deficient in these key electrolytes, you could experience arrhythmias, fatigue, and weakness.

Overall, you need sodium, but you need a lot more potassium.

Dr. Berg, Dr. Carolyn Dean said in one of her videos that Vit D blocks the absorption of Magnesium and in your Mag Glycinate formula you have vitamin D. Can you do a video clarifying whether Vit D blocks absorption of Mg or not? Thank you.

Go to Dr. Berg’s channel and type this in the search bar there – High Doses of Vitamin D Can Deplete Magnesium -…he gives advice on that video about it.

Dad jumped on the No Salt bandwagon back in the 1970’s, and I could not change his mind. I wish we could hold the doctors and nutritionist that pushed this false narrative accountable for the harm that they caused for many millions of people. Smh

For sure, I’m right with you with the SMH!

If it means anything to you, blood testing was primitive by today’s standards, a GPs surgery was lucky to have a stethoscope. Hundreds of millions of people walked around with hypertension from eating huge amounts of Trans fat, and the extra salt could have pushed them over a cliff. Followed no-salt myself from 20 to my mid 30’s when the advice had changed and blood testing flourished finally, same week I broke all my personal bests in the weights room.

      RIP, sir.

I did no salt, not beause i thought it was bad, but because i didn’t like the taste, lets just say i got quite sick, i got a big double chin , thirsty no matter how much i drank, for real i could drink 1 litre in a sitting and still feel thirsty but i couldnt drink anymore because i was full. Once i realized what the problem was i started adding lots of salt and within days i started to reverse the issue, i remember after adding sault i was feeling so satisfied from actually being able to quench my thirst for the first time in like years.

I love your Electrolyte powder with Magnesium, Potassium, and more. Not only is it healthy and increases my energy, but it tastes very good too. Moreover, I love that you use Himalayan salt though I do not use salt much. However, I do use Pink Himalayan salt whenever certain recipes call for it. GOD Bless you, Dr. Berg. 🙌🏼🙏🏽🙌🏼

    • eyeYQ2 on January 30, 2023 at 2:28 pm

You MUST have salt! Yeah, I too like his powder.

Putting Himalayan sea salt on an Avocado is a perfect way to get sodium, potassium, AND magnesium 🥑🤟🏽

    • Ann Rhodes on January 30, 2023 at 11:17 pm

@An Equal you can “lose it”in a blended smoothie full of other flavors.

    • Ann Rhodes on January 30, 2023 at 11:19 pm

@_ those are bits of the Himalayas!!

    • TRUST on January 31, 2023 at 7:48 am

@An Equal  Try it again. Add some salt and some fresh lemon or lime juice. I love it with some sea salt, minced onion, little bit of garlic and cilantro with lemon/lime juice- mash the avocado and mix all ingredients- its sooo good. Sometimes, I use it as a spread, like mayonnaise 😆 or as a side.

@Dakoder II Where did you buy your potassium chloride from and how much do you take per day? Thankyou in advance!

    • doublemetal on February 1, 2023 at 7:48 am

I m taking swanson potassium capsules. The content is 99mg per capsules. In order to take 4700mg, does this means that i have to take 47 pill each day?

I’m definitely so thankful for these data that you have explained earlier and I have started to use them since a few years and these have been such basic to decrease my cravings, increase my energy, to the point I can do weight resistance now, and I regained my youth and strength and all the hours that I don’t think about foods…❤❤❤

I began taking Potassium and Magnesium and B1, based upon an earlier video. My PTSD and anxiety had been off the charts.
Though circumstances also changed, I have the impression at least that those three supplements have made some difference.

  12. shabasa613 on January 30, 2023 at 3:45 pm

It’s uncanny how many times I have had a nutrition question that Dr. Berg will come out with a video the next day that answers the question.

  13. Andrea Gibson on January 30, 2023 at 4:52 pm

Thank you for this. It makes so much sense. I am now increasing my potassium intake to see if my blood pressure goes down. I want to do it the natural way, not with pharmaceuticals. I had been taking only 99mg potassium daily.

A while back, I added up how much potassium I was getting in my diet and found I had probably never gotten much more than 30% per day ever in my life. I take a flavored powder in water now that supplies 50%.

    • Katie on January 31, 2023 at 1:13 am

How do you feel? Any changes?

    • Jim Gilliam on January 31, 2023 at 1:52 am

@Katie The calf cramps I got when waking up after tennis have stopped. If you’ve never had calf cramps, they are agonizing. So far so good.

  16. ALEX Z on January 30, 2023 at 9:29 pm

    Hello, my question is:
How safe is it to take a few potassium supplement pills per day?
I, for example, have been taking around 6 potassium pills 2-3 times a day after watching a bunch of your videos. That’s because I simply cannot consume enough greens per day to fulfill that role. I eat some of course, but it’s very difficult for me to munch too many leaves, so I supplement it with the pills. But does it actually get processed properly by my kidneys and the liver, or does most of it actually get dumped, and perhaps causes certain damage in the process???
Because you did mention in this video that the excess of potassium easily gets taken out of the system by the kidneys! So I wonder if those potassium pills actually reach their intended destination or not. Thank you!

1000% agree! I first learned this about 20 years ago and it’s amazing how many folks I have come across where proper potassium intake makes salt (sea salt w Iodine supplement) a non-issue, heart disease or not with myself a prime example. Great work as always Doc!

Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. The market is never a loser in a twenty year cycle, but the 2000s decade scenario scares me and could really disrupt my retirement. When you are no longer accumulating but withdrawing its hard to be anything but cautious.

Some investors look to their investments as a source of income while others use it is a means to grow or preserve their wealth. For new investors, getting started can feel overwhelming. Risks loom large, and complicated, unfamiliar financial jargon can be intimidating.
