You can treat respiratory mucus with salt.

In this video, I explain how you can easily treat respiratory mucus, whether caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, asthma, or a sinus infection. And even sleep apnea.

You can use salt. Not necessarily taking salt, but breathing in salt. There’s a machine called a halogenerator, which provides something called halotherapy where you breathe salt air. The machine ionizes the salt and puts it out into the air. You can use it while you sleep.

Halotherapy can loosen up the mucus in your lungs, sinuses, and throat. Salt has the capacity to thin out the mucus. It’s antifungal, antibacterial, and it’s also anti-mold. I’ve put links below to some machines that I think are good. (I’m not affiliated with the companies that make them.)

Another option is to use something called a neti pot to wash out your sinuses with salt water.

Check your house for mold or mildew, which could be why your lungs are constantly filled with mucus. If you change locations, you might be surprised at how your sinus or lung condition goes away.

From a nutritional standpoint, oregano oil is really good to treat mucus. So too is garlic and a longer fast, say once a month for 48 to 72 hours, you can put your body into serious autophagy, which will clean up old damaged proteins as well as your immune system. It’ll also deactivate microbes and viruses. If you have a virus that’s causing the mucus, I recommend taking olive leaf extract.

And now you know how to treat respiratory mucus with salt!

I remember being told as a kid that sea air was good for asthma, the mechanism was never explained. Thanks for going through this therapy option

@cc Rider Hello crazy pants , must suck to live in your world view. I’m sitting here eat ice cream, after having a grilled cheese sandwich and pondering why you’d drink/eat fake foods made to resemble real ones.

Faith, to those mocking commenters above let me ask this. Would you rather someone have faith or would you rather them being an axe murdering zombie? If they want to believe and it allows them to smile and get through the day then let them be. 👍🏻

I threw some Himalayan pink salt in my diffuser last night (along with my usual lavender & frankincense essential oil) and I didn’t cough all night long…for the first time in 5 years! Once again, you’re a Godsend, Dr. Berg!

    • Sonia Leon on August 14, 2022 at 1:31 am

Can you put the oregano oil too in the diffuser?

    • ChalkTalk with Shari on August 14, 2022 at 12:43 pm

@Sonia Leon why not…you can any essential oils.

    • Edith Elbourn on September 1, 2022 at 12:19 pm

@Dora Dean I would have to ask did you use food grade H.P and did you dilute it? I have used it for years with no problems. I don’t think it was the hydrogen peroxide that caused the problem. Thanks for sharing I hope my comment helps. Best of luck.

    • dionysusnow on December 6, 2022 at 5:08 pm

You know if I was breathing lavender and frankincense oil all night, I’d be coughing too.

When living in the Philippines many years ago, our children had the whooping cough. The local people told us to let the children ride with the early morning fishermen and breath the salty air as the sun was coming up. It worked wonders in clearing their lungs for the day and they didn’t then choke when coughing! 🤗. They did that every morning for a month and thereby didn’t really suffer and had a wonderful time on the fishing boats

Dr Berg, Your video on salt reminds of years that I spent in a seaside town called Vishakapatnam in India. I have always had a problem of recurrent asthma but during my tenure there I hardly ever had any sick days on that front. I can only guess now that it was the salt laden sea air that made the difference.

However there is another problem with sea air that I learnt there. Every bit of steel or iron unless well protected by a good coat of paint would rust. Even stainless steel seems to be corroded by exposure to sea air, though they did well enough in landlocked places. So if someone runs a salt generator in his bed room he needs to look out for corrosion issues with steel or stainless steel items in the room.

I grew up being told to gargle with salt water for sore throat and it worked. In my adult years was told by medical doctors and dentists how much better it is to use a concentrated salt solution than commercial mouthwash for the same reasons you explained here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

When I was in Latvia, we stayed at a spa resort for the week and they had a salt cave where we went everyday for about 30 mins, being a smoker, it really does loosen the mucus up and towards the end of the week I wasn’t wheezing. Great videos, thank you.

I have a small humidifier that runs for a few hours. A family member coughs more at night keep waking up from sleep. Last night, for a cup of water, I added a table spoon of sea salt and a few drops of oregano oil. I used it for the humidifier for the night. I’ve got a surprise result- no coughs and no mucus last night

I make up a concentrated solution with rock sea salt and put it through my asthma nebuliser. I would do that for my children when they had any flu or cold infections. It would work every time. My mother devised this idea.

I’m 70 years old. My mom, grandmom, and aunts knew about this when we were growing up. Even gargling warm salt water to break down mucus. Even a little bit of salt on your tongue, suck on it for a few minutes, swallow slowly. This breaks down mucus and allows you to get rid of it….HOME MEDS BACK IN THE DAY WORKED!!

    • Sue Thomassen on October 20, 2022 at 10:57 am

@Bill Paci I’ve been stressing over coughing up phlegm so often and doctor finally told me that’s good. Better to cough up the ‘stuff’ in the lungs, like dust, pollens etc, what we breath in every day. Coughing removes this muck, so keep coughing.

    • Bill Paci on October 20, 2022 at 11:26 am

      @Sue Thomassen,
Yeah, I kind of agree. And it’s nice to hear someone else say the same thing. Thanks.

When i was a child, my uncle would bring me and my younger siblings to the beach at sunrise until late morning, whenever we had cough and colds. He would tell us to breath in “salty air” to help our bodies heal faster. and it worked all the time.

I looked up a bunch of places and they’re not really affordable to the public it seems. When a lot of the sites tell you to call for pricing, that means be ready to spend $3k or more! 🙁
