Protein Is Not a Protein

Let me clear something up. A protein is not really protein. Here’s what I mean.

Today, I want to clear up some confusion around protein.

Typically, the minimum amount of protein a person needs is 50 grams. You might think that if you consume a beef steak that’s 100 grams or 3.5 ounces, you’re getting double the amount of protein you need for the day.

However, there is a difference between the weight of a steak and the amount of protein in the steak. For example, a steak that weighs 100 grams only contains 26 grams of protein. This is because steak also contains fat and water.

Proteins also vary in amino acids. We don’t even really have a daily requirement for protein—we actually have a daily requirement for amino acids in the protein. The problem lies in the quality of protein or the bioavailable acids in the food you eat.

While some plants have protein, animal sources are a better option for protein than plant sources. Also, know that many infant formulas and foods for toddlers are loaded with soy protein and other plant proteins that can cause problems with digestion.

Foods high in protein:
1. Breast milk
2. Eggs
3. Meat
4. Chicken
5. Dairy

Slowly, one conspiracy theory suddenly starts to sound more like conspiracy fact, the more you discover more information and more facts indicating so

I learned in 1986 that there is protein in many foods but some are short in the number of essential amino acids and that protein cannot be assimilated by the body until it gets ALL of the essential amino acids. For example, some nuts may have a few of the essentials but not all and therefore the body would need to wait for you to consume the missing amino acids. If you had eggs on the same day as the nuts, that would sort out the problem. Source Muscle & Fitness.

      @Robert C Lynch TY > THAT’S VERY HELPFUL!!

    • Benjamin Steele on April 11, 2023 at 10:33 pm

Of course, if you ate eggs eggs, you have a complete protein and so the nuts would be irrelevant.

Say why this is or what its called that I can look into it more?

I’m pretty aware with what my body can digest. A year or so ago I always got this protein cereal that had good metrics in paper but it was vegan protein. I processed it legit like corn. My body didn’t absorb a thing. Destroyed my digestion until I cut it out of my diet and suck to my usual meat and tuna

Our body is so smart and smarter perhaps when we can or learn to listen to it.

    • K P on April 12, 2023 at 8:30 pm

@Kevin Darroch the smartness in your body is from cosmic consciousness. if we give this intelligence what it needs it can do it’s job.

This planet will deplete itself of resources by our doing and we will all eventually starve and thirst to death but keep on keeping on. That’s what we do.

🙋‍♀️Hey Dr. Berg! Ive been doing IF/keto for about 6 weeks and ive lost 15lbs. The main indication of weight-loss is when i look down, I no longer see my belly! Unbelievable! This works for me because I love proteins and fats! My first cheat with sugar left me with severe inflammation in my hands. For those interested in starting, it is so easy once you get past the first few days. Just make sure you get your fats and protein in, this keeps you satiated for the full time ubtil your eating window! Only thing that i miss is flavorful drinks!

    • Proanimaluver on April 10, 2023 at 12:28 pm

It’s awesome to look down..and be able to look down and not see a belly😊

What about pea protein such as the Vega meal replacements?

    • Sywi12 on April 10, 2023 at 9:31 pm

This is the recipe from the video of “OFF GRID with Doug & Stacy” and I assume you could just use one tablespoon of honey or maple syrup (which will be used by the mother of the vinegar) and adjust the rest with stevia:

      Haymakers punch aka Switchel
Half gallon of filtered water add 1/3 cup raw apple cider vinegar with mother
Ginger peeled and cut up (to taste)
1 or more whole lemon squeezed (some folks even blend ginger and lemon … like also Dr. Berg suggested to do so with whole lemons)
Either honey or maple syrup for sweetener approx 5 table spoons.

Shake up really good then put into the refrigerator for 12-24 hrs

Its so refreshing and delicious … especially when its hot outside. If you enjoy this kind of drink, they have another video like this one: A DRINK FROM THE 1700’s ~ SHRUB

Thank you so much Doctor Berg. I am on Day 5 of Keto in order to help my heart health. Yesterday I managed an uphill walk to visit my friend who is a cancer patient. I didn’t eat anything while I was there, and I didn’t have tea or coffee, I just sipped from my water bottle because I wasn’t hungry. And he kept telling me to eat something there. He kept asking me to have ice-cream, sweets etc, said he would cook a pizza (store-bought) for me, etc., hr even phoned me last night urging me to go to the store to buy myself ice-cream. How do other people deal with friends urging them to eat, especially at social gatherings, parties and holidays? Thank you all.💖

    • Laura Swann on April 11, 2023 at 5:24 pm

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply, you all gave me a lot of tips and a lot of encouragement, it was very sweet of you, you’re good people. I read every reply. Good luck to all of you too on this journey. 💖

    • Dyingfor Pie on April 12, 2023 at 3:01 pm

I just say no thanks- when i started keto/if i actually had to deal with a couple people that literally would wave a doughnut in my face saying come on you want a bite and another who would blow on his food towards my face . Stay strong just say no

    • Bahaar on April 12, 2023 at 6:43 pm

I am more worried and concerned about your friend who has cancer. Be kind to them please. And explain to them gently that sugar is cancer causing and even they should not be having it.

The enablers are a big problem, stay strong, you are the one who has the precious knowledge.

      Of course.💖

DR. Berg thank you for your great information. I studied in Germany one winter and in the town was a mother school. I think there should be more taught in regular schools for boys and girls about real food and what we need to eat and why and how best to prepare it. And what needs to be fed to babies growing up. There also needs to be more schooling for adults available for bringing up babies, children and food to eat. Your videos help do that.

Don’t forget our DNA can have an affect on our health too.

    • Errol Magill on April 10, 2023 at 6:38 pm

It’s a great idea; BUT – unfortunately it will be a case of the “experts” giving the wrong advice. Dr. Berg often says to do the opposite of what the experts tell us; from my own experiences, I believe he is right.

    • Kevin Darroch on April 11, 2023 at 10:52 am

My Cancer Journey Pardon me, good luck with your health. Please may I quietly suggest you read about the work of Dr. Johanna Budwig. It helped someone I know, but I am not your doctor.

  9. Chris S on April 10, 2023 at 1:14 pm

I just started Keto/low carb and IF. Your videos and others have helped me researched the process and I’m more discerning when I read labels and pick out meat and eggs.

  10. Floridacracker on April 10, 2023 at 1:22 pm

I can personally attest to the fact that different MEAT proteins supply different amounts of energy. When I eat beef, no problems, but when I eat chicken, there is NO or REDUCED energy the next day. I was wondering why I had low energy in my labor intensive job and I eventually correlated it with what kind of protein I had consumed the dinner before. I mentioned it to my older brother and he started observing his energy levels and found the same correlation. so, even among meat based proteins, energy levels vary.

    • james oommen on April 10, 2023 at 3:54 pm

Dr DeAdamo- Eat According to your Blood Type- mentioned about this.

    • Floridacracker on April 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm

I have heard that certain people are more prone to this while others don’t have as much of a difference in energy levels. I have also heard it correlates with the people that eat chicken and still feel hungry. I try to eat chicken on weekends when I’m not expending as many calories because I’m not working.

    • Elaine C on April 11, 2023 at 2:55 am

Agreed! I feel great on pasture raised beef, bison, lamb and goat! My body doesn’t like eggs, dairy or poultry.

    • Helen George on April 11, 2023 at 12:05 pm

My Chinese medicine instructor asked the class, “Have you seen how chickens act, always moving, twitching, bobbing their heads, have you seen cows and how slowly they move, how relaxed they are most of the day?

  11. Yojirex on April 10, 2023 at 2:55 pm

Really good to know, I was wondering if the 3oz of protein you were talking about was 3oz of protein-rich food or 3oz of the protein itself. This clears it up!

  12. TripperDan99 on April 10, 2023 at 5:29 pm

Fantastic video, so educational and helps provide some excellent groundwork to build a healthy protein intake. Ironically a couple of weeks ago we were going through this process to understand “protein verses protein” in our diet. Thank you for confirming our discoveries.

  13. DruelleB on April 10, 2023 at 7:03 pm

Dr Berg ice been vegan for 14 yrs and have been keto for 3 😊 my full blood panel is still excellent and I feel great! It’s just choosing the right foods. I don’t eat processed stuff, no powders. I have a beyond burger as a treat every once in a while but not as a staple. I have lots of energy and super happy too! 🖤

Great video, as a bodybuilder I am aware of what you state, but understand ‘normal’ people can get confused, especially with these blasted nutritional info labels.

Amazing video. Really learned a lot about the different amino profiles within various foods and the absence of it in others. I got lucky and have a diet already that fulfills both needs.

It’s been a year since i took your advices. I eat 3 eggs daily, fast until 12-1pm sometime even later, started work out 8 months ago and do cold shower. Low carb diet but still a bit of rice and definitely feel better. The most important improvement has been my concentration at school. All my life i have not been able to listen to my classes and i always refused to take medications. Now i found what was my problem, not taking care of my body enough. Thank you very much for your advices that changed my life.
