You can't avoid stress. So, you need to understand how to deal with stress naturally. Today, we're going to cover a new way to relieve stress that has nothing to do with sleep, diet, or exercise.

Oxytocin is a hormone typically associated with reproduction. But, recently, I learned it's also involved in countering stress.

Oxytocin is actually the most important hormone in counteracting cortisol and the fight or flight mechanism, and it's a major hormone involved in regulating anxiety and stress. Oxytocin is also involved in social biology and helps prevents atrophy of the hippocampus.

The best ways to trigger oxytocin and reduce stress:
• Bonding with people and pets
• Volunteering
• Donating
• Sharing
• Storytelling
• Hugging

This goes beyond diet and exercise. It's clear that helping others is something you can do to increase oxytocin and manage stress.

But a few other factors are also at play. Vitamin C, magnesium, and cholesterol support healthy oxytocin levels, and estrogen increases the receptor for oxytocin. Check out my other videos to learn more about the best diet for stress and how to reduce stress naturally.

      @Dr. Eric Berg DC
I was taught by a dear friend to analyze what’s being thrown at me and turn the apple cart upside down by saying something kind and helpful to the others to jump them out of their negative thinking patterns. Works about 80 percent of the time, may take a few sweet jabs at them for them to see the bigger picture. It has squashed my bullies and ones who are unable to stand on their own and hide behind the bullies.
      🙋‍♀️👍💕❤

@Dr. Eric Berg DC you have to” stand in your truth “, believe with your whole heart in what you are saying gives your statements POWER.

Yes!!! If I help others it makes me feel wonderful! Boy did I need to hear this , holidays make me sad every year and I have been trying to really help more less fortunate people and it makes me feel like I helped that person and I put a smile on their face and it does seem to help me feel better , thanks Dr Berg 😊

    • you r enough 💜 on December 21, 2022 at 11:37 am

@Lotus Bee I had to go no contact with my family. Lots of dysfunction !! I hope youre doing good and I hope you have a nice holiday 😊👍

    • journeylvr on December 21, 2022 at 11:41 am

@you r enough 💜 I can identify with getting away from a toxic family. I usually spend the holidays with my older sister. After a very unpleasant Thanksgiving, I’ve decided to not see her at Christmas. I’m happily spending Christmas Day alone!!! Hope you have a great, non toxic holiday!!!

    • you r enough 💜 on December 21, 2022 at 11:49 am

@journeylvr I spend it alone as well but I’m ok with peace in my life but as for my daughter ( she’s 10 , I had her @39) I feel a lot of guilt but I know it’s way better this way!! I make the best of it , Happy Holidays ❤️❤️

Am your always student from Ethiopia. I had a little bit high bp (140/70) sometimes 125/70 …went to nutritionist but found not special change. After watching your videos about cortisol hormone my life and health changed dramatically. Now I have no stress at all …thanks a lot every now and ever

  4. Deven Herbert on December 21, 2022 at 11:22 am

This is absolutely true and we all know to some degree that helping others does make us feel better, especially when you remove the motive of receiving something for your good act or deed.

  5. Sabrina and husband on December 21, 2022 at 11:33 am

In other words: oxytocin is the hormone for compassion 😊 We’re glad that you have a lot of it Dr Berg 😇 unfortunately for other individuals: must be their oxytocin is very low 😅 and that explains why some people feel morally responsible and it’s their pleasure to help; in times of difficulty, and some don’t feel that way. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

    • Ms. Monique Brown on December 21, 2022 at 12:29 pm

  6. Nora Wajdi on December 21, 2022 at 11:44 am

Actually this is how I feel most of the time, especially when I see any person or even an animal in a difficult situation and I cannot help. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🥰

  7. Reform3d on December 21, 2022 at 12:09 pm

Good video, Dr. Berg! We are social beings and being in community is an important part of what makes us thrive.

Regardless of one’s views of the pandemic, I think it is indisputable that one of the knock-on effects of 1) expeditious mass forced isolation, 2) poor communication from government authorities & the medical/science community, and 3) constant online “doom-scrolling” has been a widespread decline in mental health. And a decline in mental health can easily lead to a decline in one’s physical health as well.

    • C .Christiane on December 21, 2022 at 5:33 pm

I think the enforced isolation really hurt the mental health of teenagers the most .We have an epidemic of suicidle young people.

    • R.A. Tackey on December 21, 2022 at 7:10 pm

Event 201, the whole thing was planned

  8. Hertzair on December 21, 2022 at 1:27 pm

Another way to relieve stress is to replace worry and mental stress with intentional prayer (ask for divine help) and then taking some action towards what is concerning or stressing you. Plus as the Dr mentioned, focusing on service to others over service to self gives you a positivity boost and creates positive Karma.

  9. Brandon on December 21, 2022 at 1:42 pm

Hello Dr Berg, I have purchased all of your adrenaline and cortisol support products and have only been using them for three days and have had AMAZING results. My lower back pain has gone away and my fight flight mode is so relaxed now where before at the slightest thing would spike my blood pressure, so thank you so much for your help and products. I do have a question regarding insulin resistance which I have come to find out I have at almost a pre diabetic level. Which of your products if one is available can help with removing spiked insulin that is not used to get me back to a normal level over time with my intermittent fasting that I’m doing? Hopefully my basic level of knowledge in my question was translated correctly. I was looking at the blood sugar support product you have, would that be the best? Thank you in advance!

Oh, someone made a very interesting comment about this video. They said, the way to rid stress is to avoid people. This definite is correct if they are the percentage that go around squashing others. But apparently helping everyone else is a great stress reliever.

    • The Patriot's Kitchen on December 21, 2022 at 5:24 pm

True but this has it’s consequences! I have, because of so many bad experiences and being generally socially awkward, eliminated almost everyone from my life. Most of my family has passed away so there aren’t many relatives. Now, in the event that I NEED or WANT someone around, I have no one.

    • Maria Machin on December 21, 2022 at 5:29 pm

I want to add something to this comment , Dr Berg besides being generous , kind is SO HUMBLED
      God bless u 🙏🏻💃🏻

    • Elizabeth Hamre on December 21, 2022 at 5:42 pm

So, Eric, here is a big HUG for you and we know we both benefit from this. Love this stuff. Yes, this Info is great , but to me stress means a reading item and it blows when confronted. Stress is gone with confrontation. Have great day, here in BC is brutally cold only 3 F.

    • Domo on December 21, 2022 at 6:02 pm

Dr Berg, would you cover the issue of what causes a person to have paranoia? Is it diet related, chemical imbalance, prescription drug related?

    • Sugar on December 21, 2022 at 7:16 pm

      Lol, “cannabis, makes me paranoid!😂😋

When people smile or say thank you, I feel like a candle lights up in my heart. My mission on earth is to put a smile on people’s face. Put I have to learn to stay away from those who disrespect me the hard way.

Mentally I can handle stress fine but my body eventually reacted and I got hypertension. Introduced daily 1 hour walks and some relaxation activities like asmr sleep sounds. Took 3 months but was able to reverse it and get off meds (for context I was also doing weights and Tabata but I was doing this and still got high blood pressure).
