Keep watching to find out what sugar is really doing to your body:
0:00 Introduction: The unhealthiest diet in the world
1:30 Side effects of an unhealthy diet
2:41 Dopamine and sugar overload
4:32 Environment and the processed food diet
6:28 How to quit sugar and junk food
My entire childhood was filled with sugar, starch, seed oils, sweetened cereals, candy, soda, TV dinners, and more. As I got older, I’d graze after dinner until bedtime every single night. I consumed junk food and refined foods in the military while my life was high in stress and low in sleep. In college, I dealt with more stress, drank lots of coffee, and ate more junk food.
Side effects of my unhealthy diet included:
• Ulcers
• Liver and gallbladder problems
• Referred pain in the right shoulder
• Restless legs syndrome
• Nervousness
• Insomnia
• Dry eyes
• Severe arthritis
• Kidney stones
I weighed 211 pounds, but the food I was eating was not satisfying!
Refined carbs and sugar stimulate dopamine, which is not a pleasure neurotransmitter. Dopamine is an anticipatory neurotransmitter. The more you have, the more your body wants. If you eat too much junk food, you can develop dopamine resistance. This is what drives addiction, and why ultra-processed foods may satisfy you initially, but leave you feeling hungry an hour later. This is called dopamine hunger!
You’re not struggling with your diet because of a lack of willpower; it’s your environment. The modern world is engineered with so many things to keep us hooked and addicted. Removing the triggers is the only solution!
Ditch your unhealthy diet by focusing on your environment first. Try these steps:
1. Get rid of ultra-processed foods: seed oils, starches, and sugar.
2. No snacking, especially at night.
3. No visible food.
4. Find healthy substitutes for junk food.
5. No blue light at night.
6. Never go to the grocery store hungry or without a list.
7. Preserve your sleep.
8. Be careful with social events.

Hahah
😂😂
I’ve been an athlete since my teens, but it’s when I began eating right when things changed drastically.
Sugar is the worse thing to happen to humanity after centralized banking
Until I took an International Economics course in graduate school, I didn’t realize that sugar prices are more expensive in the USA than in other countries.
These artificial sugar prices are propped up by laws and regulations. Then, the corporate food producers add sugar to the ingredients in their products, making them more expensive and craveable.
So you get a double whammy… more sugar at more expensive costs. One of the reasons that grocery prices have been rising for years. Then you have all the additives like Maltodextrin and many others that the human body treats like sugar in metabolizing food and drinks. Yikes.
I’m a 71 year old man, non-smoker and non-drinker who’s retired. Never been grossly overweight, etc.
At age 69 my routine blood work showed “Prediabetes.”
I cut back on sugar and carbohydrates. Ate more protein and increased my daily exercise.
Lost weight and my lab results have improved.
In two years I have NOT consumed ANY soda pop, added sugar to coffee and tea (now use Allulose or Stevia), pizza, pasta, bread, frozen food, fast food, takeout, cereal, etc., etc. Fairly strict Ketogenic diet.
I feel better in general and the only thing I really miss is pizza.
Best wishes to Dr Berg and Dr Berry! Thanks!
@jdobbs7700 I’m retired too and spent years learning to make a great pizza at home. Now, thanks to Dr Berg and Dr William Davis, I realize how destructive seeds of grass are. To say I am angry about being misled for so many years is an understatement but I am grateful to have discovered Dr B and Dr D.
Yes, for sure!….❤❤
Actually, it gets much worse than sugar.
I call it the poor man’s cocaine 😢
Thank you, Dr. Berg💯
Ever since I reduced all carbs, crappy ultra processed foods and seed oils in my diet, I have felt more energetic and focused ! Needless to say, I lost 30 pounds in a year. It is my lifestyle now!
I feel the difference in my energy levels and definitely clearer thinking.
That is amazing, thank you so much for sharing your experience! Very well done on all your hard work.
OMG Dr. Berg. I love the idea of putting a sign in the kitchen that says, “Kitchen is Closed” after dinner.😉 I’m going to get one!!
Yes! And this from the video too… I have a cousin and his wife who keep a large bowl full of snacks and treats on the island in the middle of the kitchen… chocolate bars, “protein bars,” individual packs of chips, and you name it. Every time you walk into their kitchen your eye is drawn to the snack bowl.
Oh, and they both smoke cigarettes… Yikes.
I wrote mine in French just to mix things up!😂😂
Mine has signs with God’s word on them, especially regarding idolatry.
Fantastic! So glad you like that idea, hope it helps!
I tell that to the hubs nightly when clean up is completed

Synthetic garbage with an LD50 value, produced by the pharmaceutical industry from petroleum waste. I’m going to get my nutrition from sun and organs instead thank you very much.
Isn’t it unbelievable to see how the military, hospitals, schools, rehabs, prisons feed everyone. ITS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ALL IF US! Not many get it though! Thanks for all you do!
@ofriggexactly. OMG ..have you tried raw goat brains yet? YOU MUST!!!
I was awake for 48 hours! 😂😂
I only eat fast on occasions, but I wash it out with Traditional Medicinals Detox tea with 2 Tablespoons of 6% Red Wine Vinegar. I’m trying to quit fast food all together. However, I have been without soda since October of 2024.
@lesleyannthecarnivore I tried sheep brain, brain doesn’t keep me awake, it actually makes me sleep better.
I consumed 6 sugar deserts in about 2 hours at work when I was around 50 and I couldnt believe I did that. It was a wake up call.
I was raised by a mom who simply cooked whole foods, never baked & a treat was a ripe tomato. We only ate three meals a day there was never any snacking. This was back in the 1960s.
Today, I can walk down the junk food aisle at the supermarket without even being tempted. I will occasionally have ice cream maybe twice a year, pizza once a year… junk food just doesn’t phase me, snacking is unheard of.
It just goes to prove that what you’re fed as a child follows you throughout life.
And yes, I have thanked my mother many times by raising me with good wholesome food.
Tbf, it is worth remembering that pizza is basically whole food, because it was peasant food. Made from what was available. It can be harmful for someone with gluten intolerance, but certainly can be healthy if made right. 30cm well made pizza can be one meal for a day for some people, 1 of 2 meals in a day for most.
But I live in Europe, we have really good-quality flour.
Amazing! I retrained myself and can now easily avoid junk. Zero temptation.
My only temptation is when my daughter bakes as she uses all whole ingredients and even ferments her own sourdough – but it’s still sugar!😊
Are you from Boulder, Colorado?
Same but I did eat out a lot as a weightlifting teen
Tomato with pink Himalayan salt and I’d be happy 🤗
This is a very good video, Dr. Berg.
I love the thumbnail 😭
So dopamine can make us act like a dope LOL

The first time I went into a grocery store after I started on keto, I realized as I was walking up and down the aisles that practically 95% of what’s in there is or has sugar.

At 63 going on 64, this is my EXACT same story. I unfortunately became morbidly obese weighing in at 402 at 5’8″. It was a constant yoyo of weight for decades where I did work out some years of each decade. I had 11 different health issues including T2 diabetes, Gout, auto immune issues, high blood pressure just to name a few. 12 years ago, somehow I turned it around and lost 210 lbs and have kept it off now over a decade. I successfully reversed all my health issues 100% and live life as a muscular ripped old guy who loves living a healthy life with exercise, nutrition, great sleep….and have become a personal trainer and nutrition coach who truly has walked the walk. People like Dr. Berg have had a HUGE positive influence on my turnaround. Thanks so much for all you do Dr. Berg!!
Congrats on your success!
