Today I’m going to share the secret of how to deal with stress and stay calm under pressure.

Chronic stress is terrible for the body and can lead to several health concerns, including:
• Ulcers
• Diabetes
• Muscle atrophy
• Weight gain
• Cancer
• Suppressed white blood cells
• Inhibited immune function
• Viruses
• Autoimmune diseases
• Stroke
• Heart attack
• Infertility
• Insomnia
• Lack of oxygen
• Muscle tension
• Cortisol resistance

Chronic stress also reduces creativity and the ability to problem-solve. To stay calm under pressure, it’s crucial to train yourself to be in the present and have a relaxed attitude.

Relaxation exercises to try:
• Relax the antagonistic muscles (where you hold tension)
• Relax your wrinkles
• Relax the jaw muscles and tongue
• Slow your eating, chew more, and relax your gut

Other ways to cope with stress:
1. Control your breathing (breathe through your nose)
2. Go for a walk or be active in nature
3. Take natural vitamin B1
4. Maintain a relaxed body while exercising
5. Try using a mobility stick
6. Increase oxytocin (bond with a pet, donate, help others)

Overthinking is something that causes me stress. Something I’ve been following recently is “if it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it”

    • izzy p on July 3, 2023 at 11:12 am

      Great advice

    • ayaan on July 3, 2023 at 11:15 am

best way is to think about something completely different. something that’s challenging for your brain. math, puzzle, logical analysis etc.

    • Nuryasmin Mokhtar920406 on July 3, 2023 at 11:39 am

Me too..i overthinking a little things 😅..and make me stress..

If it is out of my control, I try not to focus on it and put it out of my mind.

I read a book when I was pregnant with my first child that embraced this concept. It was 20 years ago and I only applied it to labor, but the midwives were astounded with my pain tolerance. 23 hours of labor, no pain medication—I ended up needing a c-section, but that’s beside the point…😂 I had since forgotten about that concept, so I am grateful for this video. I struggle terribly (and naturally) with stress/anxiety. Will try this advice!

    • AllHim Withme on July 3, 2023 at 11:47 am

If you could do it during childbirth you can do it _anytime!_

    • gonzatribe7 on July 3, 2023 at 5:42 pm

      Was it Hypnobirthing?

I did that, and benefitted greaty from it during labor and delivery too.

With one child, I was doing so well that we called the midwife too late (bc I didn’t think I was as far along in labor as I was), and our baby came before midwife arrived. Hubby ended up delivering her.

Another great and timely video, but thanks to your coaching and keto guidance I am honestly so calm these days, even when pumped at the gym or playing loud music (like now) have a great week everyone.

Wonderful helpful advices and just what I needed help with.
I’ve been suffering from muscles pain just on those exactly locations; neck and shoulder as well as lower back areas. It’s been even difficult to sleep because of so much pain.
Strange that I feel this way. I shouldn’t be stressed, or at least, I didn’t know I was stressed.
    Thanks Dr. Berg🙏

    • Pummy on July 3, 2023 at 11:20 am

You may want to try D3-K2 and B1

    • Rosangela Tappenden on July 3, 2023 at 11:29 am

@Pummy Yes, I take them and some others, together with a readable ok nutrition.

I started a new college course so, I am stressed.
Will have to set my mind on the relaxing mode.

Lay down. Scan your body from head to toe. Relax, then, relax more. I’ve done this for a long time and I meditate while doing it. It’s amazing. Put your consciousness into the inside of your body. Focus on peace and love for yourself and humanity.

for those interested; bodyscan / grounding is what you’re looking for

The last 12 years of my 40 year nursing career was at the hospital administrative level overseeing 9 highly stressful departments with excessive budgetary demands because my areas carried a six hospital system. You completely described me. I used alcohol, gained 40 lbs, had a TIA & got diagnosed with an autoimmune clotting disorder. I have struggled to regain my health and I retired 5 years ago. I appreciate your videos!

  8. james jacobs on July 3, 2023 at 11:38 am

Another great stress reducer is a simple act of Doing something for someone else: buying someone’s coffee at Starbucks, call someone just to check on them and show them love, complement a stranger, go visit a love one, treat someone to dinner!!. You’ll be surprised how this calms your stress!!

Also of course praying and talking to God is my number #1 go to when I’m stressed!!

Love you all my brothers and sisters ❤️🙌

To be very honest, since I can remember (small child), I have NEVER done well under stress. I am a spaz. A few times I have been able to react in positive ways that bring out the best in me, but overall I just suck at stress. Great advice Dr. Berg! Thank you!

    • Durham Girl on July 3, 2023 at 12:15 pm

Using the word spaz caused me stress

The doctor with the most velvety, soothing voice was once terrified of speaking in front of an audience of his peers? Who could imagine that? Millions now can’t imagine life without your voice and wisdom. You are priceless Eric! (66 and stress-free after a fear based foundation. BEAT IT!). ❤

This might sound weird, but I treat stress as a bad habit. I can’t really control it when it happens, but after the stress event usually I feel really good. One way to cope with it, I know my brain will balance out the emotions

  12. WhatHaveYouLearned Podcast on July 3, 2023 at 12:28 pm

Hey Dr. Berg, how do I cope with stress? As a mom with four kids, I tend to worry about my kids and it can be stressful living here in NYC with my financial difficulties so the stress I currently have is regarding money so I turn to God usually to deal with that problem. I am Muslim woman suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis and I try my best to calm my mind through meditation and reading books 📚 one of them is the Quran. I also lay down and listen to motivational speakers and watch YouTube videos like yours 👍🏾 I mentally count my blessings and I talk to God when I am stressed out. I go outside, I drive near the beac, by the water and I exercise… kick-boxing has helped me relax and release some of the stress I allowed in the past to control me. ❤❤❤much love and thanks for having me as a guest on your show the other day!

Thank you for the tips. Sustained stress is such a detrimental aspect to life, mentally and physically. I think we all can use all the help we can get to manage it.

  14. Southerngirl on July 3, 2023 at 12:44 pm

I listen to Dr. Berg every day for motivation!! My stress and anxiety is always triggered due to family issues. I have had to start focusing on myself and stop trying to fix everyone else. Lifestyle/nutrition and self care is crucial. It took me many years to come to that conclusion. Thanks Dr Berg for your wisdom and calming voice!!!!

The muscles that I really focus on and try to release are the pelvic floor muscles. For me that stops panic attacks almost immediately. Thank you for your videos!

Thank you doctor for yet another wonderful video on a much needed advice! I go for swimming whenever I am stressed out. This was a very good series of tips. I’ll offer the positive ones that I utilize, while withholding the substances that I cannot recommend. First, always have sufficient “alone time” with noise isolation. Second, end any and all relationships that are creating extra, unnecessary stress. Third, when you eat, always try to get or make the most enjoyable meal possible. Fourth, always have purified water with you, and have a sip if you’ve just taken a verbal jab or you’ve experienced an unsettling moment. Fifth, avoid going into excess with pleasure or with pain. Sixth, try duplicating Dr. Andrew Weil’s technique of “4-7-8 breathing” or “Relaxing Breath.” Seventh, go mushroom hunting and photograph them with excellence in a location you’ve never gone to. Eighth, go to a different nation and choose a city that you believe will offer you a positive environmental vibe. Even if you can only go for a weekend or two weeks, travelling to the right place at the right time can bring calm. Ninth, if you find yourself waiting anxiously on people who are clearly not operating as fast as they could be, use the following crude mantra in silence: “They must be doing really advanced calculus right now.” It’s kind of rude, but if it helps keep you calm and if you’re not saying it at them, then that’s okay in my book. Tenth, get a pair of headphones that sound amazing, and experience music in a new conductive manner while moving your body. Cheers!

How I deal with Stress is an area I’m working on. I hold everything inside you keep the peace and I see the impact on my blood pressure. I’m learning to set boundaries and move away from toxic people and environments. Loving people from a distance is sometimes necessary for your health. Thanks for this video today.

I’m currently attending grad school. The amount of presentations that we have to do in front of our peers it’s just so much. Thanks for giving some of these strategies. I will definitely apply them.
