Hi Dr. Ekberg,
I started fasting about a month ago and I’m gradually proceeding into longer fasts (the peaks were two 36h fasting but I’m usually staying around the 18h) so I don’t yet feel the extreme need to supplement since I focus on eating healthy food during the eating window.
But I’m planning to get to my first 72h and later the 100h fast, so I wanted to ask if you were planning to open a (virtual) shop here in europe too.
Or at least if you could utilize one of those services and couriers that allow to shop and pay both import tax and potential custom duties via pc or smartphone, because having both to pay an extra while also having to go to the postal service or stay at home from work to pay the courier is really unfeasible.
And lastly, a friend of mine (who actually introduced me to intermittent fasting) is sporadically using AG1 (which I think it used to be called ”Athlethic Greens”)… Do you think it’s a good supplement to take or did you make some research on it and found some potential issues with it?
In any case, thanks for the work you do. It really helped me out understanding the processes involved in the things you suggest. Which is what led me to practice it in a more informed manner and avoid confusion.
Greetings from Milan, Italy.
Did you get headaches, dizziness, fatigue, constipation? How much water do you drink a day? Ty
@MagnumOpussaw see
You rock!!!
When I tell people at work I’m not eating lunch or anything for 3 days they look at me like I’m a total weirdo.
Socially your are 😂 while health wise you’re a health champion 🏆 😉
you are though, socially.
@Șerbanthat’s exactly what I was going to say 😅 but the good kind of weirdo 😉
You are … not that there’s anything wrong with that!
So many amazing benefits since I started fasting, both physically and spirituality.
It’s a game changer for sure!
Me too! But I haven’t seen any spirits yet
I have been on a spiritual fast for almost thirty years 😉
Thank you @warriorforyah777. One of the biggest benefits is the freedom from the enslaving routine of meals. Most people plan their days around meals. When your body is used to fasting, you can skip a meal and not worry about it if you are busy or traveling. 😄
@Dr. Sten Ekberg I absolutely concur
@Dr. Sten Ekberg even better is having no dishes to wash
I’m already at optimum weight. 45 kg. I can’t afford to lose anymore weight. I’ll be underweight! Intermittent fasting 16/8, 15/9. got me to where I’m at.
with 45kg you probably are underweight already.
Isn’t 45 kgs underweight?
How long did you do IF for to get to 45 and what did you start at?
Congratulations. How tall are you?
Fasting is indeed a powerful tool for body recomposition. I have been using IF for a few years now to my great benefit, thanks in part to the kind teaching provided by Dr. Ekberg.
I’m fasting now (Thursday to Monday)! So glad this video isn’t about food! I’ve only ever made it to 2.4 on ketosis. Very nice test!
Hi mike, what are you using to test ketones level? Thanks. I havw a freestye optimum neo for testing blood sugar levels
Thank you so much for this information! People think I’m crazy because I’ve done IF for 40 consecutive days now and I am currently doing my second, consecutive, 42 hour fast. I feel good, and my GKI is averaging .8 to 1.
Thank you for the confirmation that this is truly good for me. 😊
May I urge you to get Dr. Mindy Pelz’s book “Fast Like a Girl” – I’m 51 and was fasting like a maniac to heal a histamine intolerance (which I did in 5 months), but now I am mindful of my hormones and how they are affected by fasting and by what I choose to eat in which part of my cycle. If you’re peri- or post-menopausal, it’s an essential read, as well.
Thank you, Dr. Ekberg, your positive health videos have helped my wife and I!
Before I started watching your videos I was having diabetic neuropathy symptoms in my left hand, as well as to many other issues to list. After months of watching your videos and using your healthful advice, we are so much better.
I do not have any of the Type 2 issues anymore.
My wife, who is a Type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump for 20+ years, was able to lose from 118 down to 107 pounds, and feels great. She was able to cut her insulin usage in half. Thank you again for the great health restoration videos, sir. Respectfully, KWB
She must be a small person? 108 for a 5ft person is ok
@Mimi Wallman She is, about 5′ 5″. Her goal was to see how the tips that Dr. Ekberg would work with her blood sugar swings. Even on an insulin pump with a CGM she still would have swings. Now the blood sugars are stable and again, insulin usage cut in half. The lost weight was a bonus. She said at 54 she feels better than she did at 20 or 30. And the many “old people” ailments, (pain, here and there) are gone. I guess getting rid of the inflammation made was a game changer.
@Captain Sandy & Crusty Kirk RADIO Amazing 👍👍
Thank you for the effort you put into your videos Dr. Ekberg. It would be nearly impossible to understand how important fasting longer periods is if you hadn’t been so precise. I’ve never gone past 64 hours, but am seriously considering it though. I think the hardest part about fasting for me is it’s kind of boring. You get so geared to going to the fridge, that you don’t know what to do with all the free time not focusing on food. Anyhow, I know I’m not the only one who appreciates your videos so thank you! Hope you have an awesome weekend! 😃
Choose a subject and timetable former eating time as study time.
Thank you DOC!So far,lost 41.3 KG (91 lbs).The show must go on…
At the end of September 2021,I started IF (2 meals a day) and at the end of December started, for the first time,a 5 day no food program. After that,I decided to go on LCHF and OMAD (eating around 6:30 PM) and never looked back!In the last 2 years,I’ve done 5 days fasting every 3 months, last time at the end of July.
My mom is a dietician who finished her college about 30 years ago and when I told her that I am going right now through my second 5-day fast this year she told me to go for a head scan instead of trying to fix my metabolism. I started watching you, Dr. Ekberg, I think about a year ago and I started creating a great plan with reasonings. Of course I’m not hyper-strict and ascetic but through your advices and videos I created a set of rules that helped me steadily lose 15kg in last 6-7 months and I hope the fast I’m going through will help me with the plateau. Everything, connected with exercises, is helping me to get myself into a better shape before hitting my thirties. The great guidance, physical activit and knowing your body leads to better life (gotta get myself a ketone meter). Great video as always and thank you for all the effort you put into your content. I am far from being a Health Champion, but you sure are!
You will NEVER find a mainstream dietitian or nutritionist with ripped abs.
30 years ago they knew very little about nutrition except for the food pyramid given to us by the governments. Two of most obese people I knew(husband/wife) and the wife was a dietician, that was about 16 years ago, so not much has changed in what they teach for that degree.
When I was in pharmacy school in the 90s our nutrition classes taught us to eat lots of “good” carbs and to eat often. It wasn’t until after I retired and had time to research I discovered the proper way of eating. (At least for me.)
@armadillotoe and that is?
Ik 7
I’ve lost 22 kg in 3 months thanks to this guy and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Ekberg you are a guiding light towards a healthier life and thanks to your thorough explanations in each video I can follow through without giving into my old, fattening habits. I truly adore your work and appreciate every bit of effort you put into your videos. Thank you so very much!
You do keto diet?
@worldoffoood
Everybody reacts differently to a change in eating habits. I lost 52 pounds in 6 months. 33 of those pounds were shed in the first 36 days. I didn’t go keto. I cut out processed foods, sugar, and ate low carb. I didn’t measure anything, and I purposely didn’t exercise because this was an experiment to me. I started exercising about 6 weeks ago to start my next phase of this experiment. As another example, my wife has done the same things as I have, and she has lost zero pounds. So what has worked for me hasn’t benefited her in the weight loss department. Best of luck
@WorldOfFoood Yes. No sugar or carbs, fat heavy diet combined with intermittent & extended fasting. I haven’t exercised at all either.
This 👆
I’m currently 107 hours into my 132 hour fast. I’m not doing it for weigh loss, but for inflammation reduction and (hopefully) a new set point.
What kind of inflammation?
Gout or r.a
A herniated L4-L5 disc injury from the gym. I struggled with it for three and a half years. While PT helped a bit, it didn’t ever really stop hurting until my first 5 day fast. I do another one every time I start feeling a bit of the sciatic type symptoms starting to come back. Also, I just visited my aunt who is from Peru and tends to use seed oils in her cooking, I thought I’d just take the week after to fast.
@elezraitathat a very smart plan to avoid those seed oils!
Ekberg numbers show max benefit around 80 hours. More than 100 seems dangerous
I just injured myself in the gym and was thinking about fasting for anti-inflammatory and hermetic effects. I’ve only ever fasted for 80 hours, though.
My max is *98* hours so I really appreciate this breakdown of what happened! I was intently trying to heal a histamine problem and it has since resolved and I’m sure this had a LOT to do with my healing! Thank you, Dr. Ekberg!!!
That WILL happen.
Well it happened to me. And I am beyond delighted
Don’t add black pepper to your foods
@iKeto 🥑 I love it
ayyyy histamine crew
This is amazing, most I did was just 72 hrs. My struggle with long fast is the refeeding process. How do you do yours after a long fast? Thank you very much for all the things you do. It does help a lot of people like me. I already lost 35 lbs and more importantly my HgA1c is now in the normal range.
Bone Broth is my go to
People think I’m a genius because I’m repeating everything you say to them.
They don’t know that you are the real genius.
Thank you sir for everything you say and do.
Yeah but even curiosity activates genious genes😂👌
Thanks for doing these experiments Dr. Most people are defeated by addiction and afraid to try anything. I bought the blood work course, thanks for putting that together.
Thank you doing these sophisticated personal studies on yourself. The results are soo important and give so much perspective as what to expect when we pursue taking charge of our health. We then know this really works!. Very much appreciate that you are so passionate about this and about helping others.
Some key information you missed to mention in your video:
1. How much water do you drink during 100 hours fasting? How many glasses of water did you drink per day?
2. Do you exercise or work out during 100 hours fasting?
3. How is your sleep during 100 hours fasting? Could you get good sleep without cravings interruption at night?
4. How do you break your fast? What foods do you eat when you break your fast?
5. Did you go to work as normal during 100 hours fasting?
6. Did you lose muscle mass?
7. Did you change your mood during this 100 hours fasting? Ex: more angry or aggressive etc
Can no bowel movement during an extended fast be potentially problematic
@Ashley Sharmaif you don’t eat, you’re probably going to have less bowel movements over that time.
@Ashley Sharma Part of the miracle of fasting is giving your _whole digestive system a break._ That being said, believe it or not I’ve actually had BMs on day-3 of a fast.
1. Drink water if you are thirsty.
2. Light exercise, as a couple of push-ups won’t hurt but is not needed.
3. If you come from a high carbohydrate diet it can be rough on sleep. If you are eating low carb, it for me improved my sleep.
4. 100 hours is not enough to think about how you break a fast. But eat lean protein in moderation the first day after the fast and you will be good. Don’t go mental with a pizza, you will feel horrible.
5. I did a 5 almost 6 days fast and i was working 14-16 hour shifts as a waiter in a restaurant. My energy was amazing and my head was clear as never before. When i came home i was so hyped at day 4 i started doing some push-ups.
6. I don’t know, but nothing to worry about in such a short fast.
7. Mood was significantly improved, i had purpose and was smiling thinking about the future.
But i had been doing keto for more than a year with no cheat, I can’t say for people coming from high carb diets straight to fast.
Good questions
If it wasn’t for Dr. Ekberg, Dr. Fung, and Dr. Berry I have no doubt I wouldn’t still be alive. Thank you. 71 and still breathing.
