Was there a mention about splitting up in past videos I’ve missed? It’s a private matter of course, but I was confused for a good bit when you were talking about dating, cos I was under the impression there was already an existing relationship. Either way, great video, and good advice on making friends as an adult. Often I feel like we make friends when we’re in school, and then just sort of get stuck with those people, whether our interests match or not, and making new ones can be scary.

If she did say anything specific about a breakup, I missed it. She has mentioned dating recently. LOL these parasocial relationships where you sit and listen to people talk about their personal lives is weird. It’s like being nosey and trying not to be nosey at the same time.

I liked your take on making friends as an adult. I moved from the UK to Paris and now I´m in Barcelona so plenty of opportunity to either make friends or sit around on my lonesome.

My experience has been exactly as you said – figure yourself out, find out what you enjoy, and go do that. I joined some organisations as a volunteer and that meant i joined a ready-made team so made some friends from there. Plus going on group activities like hikes, then being invited from that group to parties and meeting people like this.

The biggest lesson for me was to take the initiative – don´t wait to be invited to things by people I just met. If I get a good vibe from them, I ask them to meet for a coffee or a walk. Now that I have a really nice community, I organise get togethers in my place or out in the city so that my friends can meet each other and I can also meet their other friends. I simply wanted to see my friends more and 1-on-1 time was too time consuming. Take the initiative to create the life you want – exactly as you said !

I also did not grow up knowing anyone outdoorsy and didn’t hike or camp until I took myself in my 20s, but it became my life’s passion, and I even get to work for national parks now! Connecting with the natural world can make life SO much better, and I’d strongly encourage newbies not to be too intimidated. Just start with short trails, bring lots of water and a map, make sure you don’t leave trash behind, and have fun! Start simple, and if you like it, start working your way up in difficulty and acquiring specialized gear, but you don’t need much to start out.

Oh, and Lucy, if Yosemite National Park in California (and the Sierra Nevada range in general) isn’t on your wish-list already, you would absolutely love it! Incredible hiking, world-famous rock climbing, and really great locals– you’d have such a blast!

I grew up just outside Banff! It’s beautiful and has amazing camping. I’m sure it’ll be an incredible experience!

I love you so much. You are one of the most relatable people I’ve come across on YouTube/social media. Your passion about learning new things and helping others do the same while making new friends is so inspiring. Adulting is hard, especially (I think) as a female. So much emphasis is put on dating and marriage growing up but I don’t feel like anybody ever talked about how important it is to learn yourself, what you like, find friends that inspire you and care about you, etc. Thanks for being awesome! ❤

I super love this video! You were totally speaking on my wavelength. I am just trying to put myself out there to find people with the same interests. You do need to have a handle on your own personal strength too though. Thank you so much for lending some of your strength and enthusiasm.

Hey Lucy I LOVE that you are trying to create more access to the outdoors (especially for women)! I also picked up rock climbing a few years ago which has drastically changed my life in the best ways. I’ve long suffered from chronic fatigue and endometriosis which have all been resolved since I’ve adopted my new ‘outdoor’ life style. I so wish that I could’ve started this journey much earlier but like yourself, I had no one around me who could show me the ropes nor did I believe that I could do it. So now, I’m also trying to contribute to the beautiful community that taught me the best way to live by studying to become a climbing instructor and am hoping to run classes for teenage girls and seniors specifically!

I totally support your journey in increasing access by sharing your love and knowledge for the outdoors. Super inspiring. I was touched! Hope to join ya some day 🙂

Oh what exciting plans you got for 2024 Lucy, I would love to join in the future 😊 Thank you for organising this and bringing people together

You’ve hit the nail on the head about making friends as an adult. Figuring out who you are, showing up to events and classes you’re interested in, and taking initiative to invite people out. If you move to a new country, it’s worth learning the language, and you’ll make friends in the languages classes too 🙂

Very exciting that your life is evolving to leading courses and developing your outdoor skills; that’s living! Heck yeah. 2024 is shaping up to be amazing.

My rando internet option about the guy you mentioned: you’re very forgiving, which speaks well of you, but be careful with guys like him. Lying about his age to get a date isn’t okay. Doesn’t matter that he came clean at the beginning of the date, he still lied the entire time up until the point you were physically in the room with him. Not a great start.
