Counting calories has always been an issue for me for many reasons. I struggled until I figured out that if I ate 95-100% low calorie, nutrient dense (plant based Whole Foods) on the daily then two things: 1. It’s pretty tough to eat over your calorie amount because the fiber fills you up quickly and 2. When I do want to enjoy something “off plan” I can do so with out feeling guilty or bad about that choice.
I lost my 115 lb 12 years ago on points system which took into consideration calories fiber and fat. So over the years I am pretty consistent with what I eat and I always look for the fiber fat and calories and basically a certain combination that makes up points usually equals the same amount of calories. And I do always consider sodium and sugar. So bottom line is to lose the extra 5 to 10 lb I am counting points because that’s what I’m used to and it’s helping. And I appreciate your daily tips they are so helpful and I look forward to them. Thank you
Didn’t I run with you. You are wonderful.
I have the same breakfast every day and prepare most of my meals. I make enough to have leftovers. I use a food scale and free tracking app called Cronometer to track what I eat. The app figures the calories. I log my my food either before or after eating. When I eat something I didn’t prepare, I make an educated guess about quantities. It was a bit challenging at first, but now it’s a habit. For my personality it also works as a reward when I log things in and see data that shows progress that I am making. The app also tracks my weight.
When I track food I instantly become obsessive – the second I input something I’m focused on the next meal and food stays in the forefront of my mind.
100% same. Counting calories DID help me lose 30 pounds, but it also left me with an eating disorder that I’m still dealing with every single day, almost 4 years later. It’s a slippery slope for some people unfortunately!
