Losing weight should help you live longer, but it’s not always that simple. As you age, it’s vital to maintain a healthy amount of lean muscle mass. Ozempic is very popular for weight loss, but trials have shown that it can cause muscle loss, not just fat loss. One study compared the use of Ozempic to a decade or more of aging.

Preserving muscle mass is one of the best things you can do for longevity. Your muscles help regulate your blood sugar and support your metabolism.

Sarcopenia is the term for age-related muscle loss. When you develop sarcopenia, your risk for diabetes, immune problems, and your mortality rate increases.

Exercise is the best thing you can do for your muscles. Protein is the raw material for muscle-building, so it’s essential to ensure you’re getting enough and spreading your intake throughout the day. Grass-fed red meat is the best source of protein.

Poor sleep drains muscle mass more than poor diet because muscle recovery occurs when you’re sleeping.

In summary, focus on the following as you age:
•Increase lean muscle mass
•Ensure adequate protein intake
•Consume collagen
•Increase magnesium glycinate, vitamin D, zinc, selenium, copper, B vitamins, and coenzyme Q10
•Consume iron from red meat

L. reuteri is a microbe with many fascinating benefits and has been shown to increase muscle stem cells. It's helped me gain 5 pounds of muscle mass!

    – Sleep: Get enough sleep to restore muscles.
    – L. Reuteri bacteria: Supports muscle growth and reduces stress.
    – Avoid: Sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet.

I haven’t eaten red meat for 20 years. As I approached 50 I started to work out, and had a significant muscle increase. I do eat chicken nearly every day, and started hemp seed protein about 6 months ago, which I believe has helped. I’m sure if I ate red meat I would see “more” muscle increase (I don’t need more), but it is certainly not required. I’m not vegan, but I suggest people google “vegan body builders” and understand that it works for many people; perhaps not everyone.

So glad you mentioned L reuteri. WHY? By learning how and what I needed to make this culture…
and then actually doing it: This simple addition to my daily diet has made the biggest difference
relevant to any supplement or food I have yet to introduce. Seriously, this easy to make dairy
culture is a true game changer. One example: I am almost 75. Over the years I have become very
sluggish both in elimination and energy. I tried many natural and pharmaceutical products but
nothing helped in the long term. Via Youtube I learned through Dr. William Davis – the wonderful
health benefits of L reuteri. Yes, consuming it has made that much of a difference!! I cannot
recommend enough at least learning about it through Dr Davis’ Youtube lectures and interviews.
Both Dr(s) Berg and Davis are gifts to this planet – I, for one, stand in complete gratitude!!!!!!!

I’m 68 . After being a couch potato for over 15 years, I’d had enough. I had ballooned to 227 lbs (6’1″) and was ‘skinny fat’ at 40% bodyfat. I hit the gym, taking it slowly, doing 30 minutes of cardio then stretching/lifting weights (progressive overload). I did a 16/8 intermittent fasting as well. The first thing that happened was my belly began to shrink. About 2 1/2 years later, I am currently at 195 lbs and 16% bodyfat, my muscle mass increased dramatically. I was told my muscle mass is that of a 35 year old athlete. I actually have a ‘6-pack’ for the first time in my life. I feel like I’m in my 30’s. I am able to do things in the gym that most 30 years old cannot do. I feel better, look better than ever before in my life. It’s not unusual for me to get compliments on my physique from both men and women, something that never happened before. It has helped every facet of my life. I don’t feel deprived, as I eat whatever I want, just in moderation. The rewards are great, but only if you have discipline and determination in equal amounts. Like the NIKE ad says, “Just DO it’!
