Ep. 306: Are You Doing Too Much?

If you’re having trouble losing weight, taking a look at how much you’re working out is one of the first places you can troubleshoot. Menopausal women have different exercise and recovery needs than younger women, and – believe it or not – too much exercise can actually lead to weight GAIN over 50. On this episode of the Get Your GOAL podcast, we’re exploring how much is too much.

Overexercise isn’t always the problem, but it’s a far more common issue than the internet would lead you to believe. And it’s particularly problematic for menopausal women, because we recover so differently than we used to.

We live in a society that values hard work, doing more, pushing yourself to extremes, and being the best. And I don’t argue with those values, exactly – but I do want you to understand the nuances of how to incorporate those ideals into your menopausal life. Especially as you’re losing weight.

    Ding! Ding! Ding! This episode totally resonated with me. Just had a week off from work and enjoyed me. I didn’t push my exercise but listened to my body while exercising. Actually going slower made me feel my body’s strength. Also really started my mindset daily work with your WDITA list. I’m finished stressing my mind and body. I’m resetting my glorious body!     I am so glad you mentioned seeing your Dr and getting your thyroid checked! I was told I was achy, unable to lose wait and was tired because I was menopausal. I asked for a TSH test and I found out I have hypothyroidism caused by hashimotos- got meds and got it under control and the 50 method worked as it should ! Down ten pounds and feel great!! Talk to your doctor and advocate for yourself!!!

    Removing stress from your life is a major part of successfully bringing your health and fitness under your control. Even if it means downsizing or reducing expectations. Not “keeping up with the Joneses”, so what? Being realistic about your ambitions. What is more important than knowing you can enjoy better health as you age, not worse? Nothing.

    Paula at 65 and still working and fully past menopause, this episode is so helpful for me as for the last 10 pounds just go up and down. I just keep listening to this message to help change this ol’ brain of mine.
