DATA:

Surgeries come with risks, which include death. Surgery can significantly lower your vitamin D, so if you have surgery and you’re deficient, you could be putting yourself at risk.

If you’re low in vitamin D, your blood pressure can go up. Vitamin D is one of the best remedies for high blood pressure because it increases nitric oxide, which helps vasodilation in the arteries.

Vitamin D supports your immune system, helps prevent infection, and reduces inflammation. It also helps reduce cardiovascular complications after surgery. Some people take 100,000 to 300,000 IU of vitamin D before surgery!

If you don’t have enough vitamin D, your muscles can weaken, which increases your risk of falling after surgery. Post-operative inflammatory indicators increase by 200% if you’re low in vitamin D.

Vitamin D can increase antimicrobial peptides by 4000%! This compound helps your immune system kill microbes and dramatically reduces the risk of postoperative infection.

Sufficient vitamin D cuts the risk of surgical complications in half. One study found that half of atrial fibrillation was reduced with enough vitamin D. Vitamin D is especially important for open-heart surgery, thyroid removal, and cancer removal.

Surgery puts significant stress on your adrenal glands. If you’re low in vitamin D, cortisol can spike 4x after surgery, slowing healing and increasing inflammation.

If you’re low in vitamin D, you’re 8 times more likely to have cognitive dysfunction after surgery. Vitamin D can reduce the risk of rejection during an organ transplant and is associated with fewer complications with ventilators after surgery.

If you take vitamin D before surgery, you can expect shorter hospital stays and faster healing rates. If you only take high doses of vitamin D for 3 days before surgery, you don’t need to worry about any toxic effects.

Get your Vitamin D levels tested before any surgery.

Ensure you have sufficient Vitamin D levels before surgery.

Consider taking high doses of Vitamin D three days before surgery.

High doses mentioned include 100,000 IU, 300,000 IU, or even 600,000 IU (based on studies mentioned).

For children in intensive care, a study used 10,000 IU of Vitamin D per kilogram.

Vitamin D may reduce risks associated with surgery such as:

    Dying

    High blood pressure

    Infections like sepsis

    Inflammation

    Cardiovascular complications

    Cognitive dysfunction

    Rejection in organ transplants

    Need for ventilators

    Longer hospital stays

    Slower wound healing

    Atrial fibrillation

    Vitamin D is important for:

    Increasing nitric oxide for vasodilation.

Immune system function and preventing infections.

    Reducing cardiovascular complications.

Muscle strength and preventing falls, especially in elderly.

    Healing and reducing post-operative inflammation.

Adrenal gland health and managing stress from surgery.

Vitamin D deficiency can worsen post-surgical cognitive side effects and cortisol spikes.

Consult with your doctor about the appropriate Vitamin D dosage and strategy before surgery.

This video is for both patients and doctors to be aware of the importance of Vitamin D before surgery.

I have Stage IV colon cancer and have been battling it for 3 years. I went through surgeries, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. The immunotherapy almost destroyed my liver and I had to stop treatment in Sept. 2024. In January, my small intestine popped out through an incision that did not properly heal. I started taking 10,000 IU of your vitamin D every other day and chewing 2 cloves (spice) daily beginning in early February. I had a blood test on Feb. 24 and my D level is 53 NG per ML. My circulating Tumor DNA test came back on March 1st, and it has reduced by 1/2 from 0.57 in Sept. 2024 to 0.25 now. I have also been fervently praying for healing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for the continued information on vitamin D!

Include fasting in your regimen if you don’t do so already. It is hands down one of the best tools we have against any disease.

I’m having bunion surgery in a couple of weeks and my dr prescribed vitamin d and calcium. I’ve never heard of doing that before and now your video pops up! Gives me more confidence in my doctor.

    • @shoogasweet5847 on March 15, 2025 at 11:49 am

Be careful with taking calcium. Dr. Berg has a video on what too much calcium can do to your body.

    • @factsmatter4030 on March 15, 2025 at 12:08 pm

Wow.. You must have a good Dr

    • @shulamitebeautifulbride on March 15, 2025 at 12:26 pm

I skipped the calcium and ate oranges. I took vitamin D-3. And 40 minutes daily in the sun. Preferably in the morning

Local doctors doesn’t point out things like Dr Berg They don’t care about teaching us about medication, seeds oil, hidden ingredients,
This is the reason I love listening to Dr Berg videos .

    • @cluman1 on March 15, 2025 at 11:58 am

It’s not that they don’t care, they really don’t know.

Yes! I’ve been asking people I know if their doctor ever inquires about their diet, not one has replied yes.

    • @BeefNEggs057 on March 15, 2025 at 2:04 pm

They don’t have time – 20 min isn’t enough to fix and educate a patient – not that they could with their low fat anti red meat misinformation.

  6. @cory3518 on March 15, 2025 at 11:49 am

I was pretty much clueless about the importance of vitamin D until COVID and DR BERG. and I will say that without finding Dr Berg I’d probably be dead because heading into a quadruple bypass heart surgery I never got any answers as to what was wrong with me from multiple doctors. I’ve learned more from this man in last four years than I have from my ” doctor” my entire life.

Yes the owner of a health food shop I went to years ago said her biggest customers were doctors but when she asked why they didn’t send patients to health food stores the reply was “that would put us out of a job”!!!!

  8. @MsOrganic1 on March 15, 2025 at 12:01 pm

I increased my daily vitamin D after listening to many many Dr. Berg videos. It is definitely helping me significantly.

My uncle who is skinny had a quadruple bypass surgery early this week. Two days later in ICU he had a stoke. I wish I had this information to give to him prior to this!

My friend had surgery one week ago. His surgeon actually suggested he that he take a lot of Vit D before and after the surgery. Wow! You don’t hear this a lot from everyday doctors.

    • @robertrohde4579 on March 15, 2025 at 3:34 pm

In the fall of 2023, I had two total knee replacements. The only thing they told me was that I could still take vitamin D unlike some of my other supplements. I have taken 5,000 to 20,000 IU of vitamin D daily for the last 8 years.

  12. @kathypileggi7650 on March 15, 2025 at 2:13 pm

OK 👍 high doses of vitamin D 3 days before surgery ❤️❤️

  13. @johnsteele8382 on March 15, 2025 at 2:17 pm

I had a lumbar fusion surgery about 2 years ago. The surgeon was one of the best around and he told me in post op to take vitamin D. He’s now retired but I’m grateful to doctors that care about their patients. Thanks Dr. Berg and Dr. Gaufin.

As the leading Vitamin D Deficiency channel , I would say its even better to optimize your vitamin D now because you never know if you’ll have to do emergency surgery where taking vitamin d is not an option for you . Always keep your vitamin d level optimized!

  15. @PSC9634 on March 15, 2025 at 3:04 pm

I got a bad MRSA infection after surgery after falling down the stairs. The infection began in my bones, which spread & became septicemia. I almost lost my leg, then nearly died- several times. I spent the better part of two years hospitalized, going through 8 surgeries, 24/7 IV antibiotics, pain meds, plus a LOT of pain & fear, despite the hardcore narcotics. It was terrifying. My mom reminded me that I have the ability to heal my body. We all do. I started meditating & focusing on healing. Within three weeks after being told they were going to amputate, the skin on my leg finally began to heal & close over. It saved my leg & saved my life.
