Great video!! I almost finished your 30 days workout series and want to try calisthenics afterwards! 🎉 Thank you for the true beginners exercises!

    • Lucy Lismore on April 1, 2021 at 9:27 pm

You got this! Thank you so much!! 🥰

Keeping the core strong and tight is always difficult for me. If I concentrate on that it feels like I have stopped breathing and if I try proper breathing the core gets messed up. Any tips on how to improve that? (Note: The fat is mostly around the belly so it also kind of feels.. I don’t know how to put it- awkward, as if I’m not pulling the belly inwards enough)

    • samandy24 on April 10, 2021 at 7:02 am

@Mayukh Banerjee I found the source website. Here’s the link: http://www.self.com/story/how-to-activate-your-core/amp

And here’s a better explanation of what I said: “Stokes suggests lying on your back with your knees above your hips in tabletop position. In this position, squeeze your glutes and your core muscles so that your lower back presses into the floor. Aim to be as flush with the floor as possible, though your back’s natural arch may prevent it from pressing down completely. (It’s easiest to feel core “activation” when lying on your back, Saliba notes, because you can use the floor for feedback.)
From here, place your palms on your quads and try to push them forward and toward your feet as you simultaneously resist the tension using your entire core. If neither your legs nor arms move at all despite your pushing, your core is activated.”

@samandy24 This is the best! Thank you so much. I really mean it.❤️

@Mayukh Banerjee no problem! Hope that helped you! Good luck! 😀

@Mayukh Banerjee you’re likely dumping your whole weight on your arms. Try to distribute the weight by engaging your whole body.

The chest-to-wall handstand, walking in and getting one’s chest to the wall for alignment has been super helpful for me. I’m not upright and free of the wall for any bragable length of time yet, but I’m up, and holding and, dagnabbit, I’m getting there! It was/is a lockdown goal I’ve been working on since mid-March. Your attitude and your ability are really inspirational, and I’m getting there. Huge thanks. 🙂

    • Lucy Lismore on April 1, 2021 at 9:34 pm

That is awesome, well done! Keep going and I look forward to hearing about your handstand progress in the future!! 🥰🤸🏻‍♀️ xx

    • Cat-Man on June 2, 2021 at 4:25 pm

      That’s a new slang , dagnabbit 😂

I want to add that you inspire me, these videos are absolutely helpful for a woman getting into calisthenics.

    • Lucy Lismore on April 1, 2021 at 9:26 pm

This means more than you know! Thank you! xx

  5. Vicki Thompson on April 1, 2021 at 8:24 pm

You make it look so effortless and easy lucy, but at the same time make me believe I could perform some of these moves, thanks for another great video 🤗🤗🤗

    • Lucy Lismore on April 1, 2021 at 9:23 pm

Yay this means so much to me thank you! 🥰 xxx

  6. AliaslsailA on April 1, 2021 at 9:01 pm

And then there’s me who can’t even get into a proper low squat 🤓 amazing video Lucy, I love the skill aspects of calisthenics

    • Lucy Lismore on April 1, 2021 at 9:23 pm

Keep going and you’ll get there!! Thank you so much 😁, so happy you love calisthenics too! xx

    • Kathie Staub on April 4, 2021 at 5:19 am

Same! It’s a flexibility thing, I just can’t get my bum that low!

  7. Amber Meyer on April 2, 2021 at 4:08 am

Just discovered your channel and calisthenics recently, really enjoyed this video and your attitude of playing and having fun! Inspired me to give the bent arm crow poise a try and to my surprise, my little noddle arms were able to hold me up!!!

  8. Cupokat on April 2, 2021 at 7:25 am

I’m slowly getting curious with calisthenics and would love to do those moves in the future!

    • Nocti Lucera on July 28, 2021 at 6:41 pm

      Do it!
I can’t either but started with some of her videos for beginners.
Hope you find fun in it

    • Angel on August 27, 2021 at 1:54 pm

it’s the future! Have you done it? 😛

    • Cupokat on August 27, 2021 at 2:11 pm

@Angel Haha i tried but I can’t ,I feel so heavy so I just opted for resistance training to lose weight and build muscles

  9. Sigrid Bence on April 2, 2021 at 2:39 pm

Love this! You are so inspirational! For the first time in a looong time I took my workout outside. The new neighbours have been listening to me going “oh no, no, no, no!” followed by the sound of hard impact for about 20m now 😂

  10. zazaincalifornia on April 8, 2021 at 11:41 am

As a beginner, are there any exercises with weight that could help to gain strength in between calisthenics session in order to help for the movements (for example, crow pose)?

    • Daniela Alejandra Chamorro Handal on August 16, 2021 at 12:29 am

Yes! This is a video that I would love for Lucy to do🙏🏻 since I do feel pretty weak in my arms and upper body and it seems that this are the muscle groups mostly needed for most of these poses!

  11. Thefullbeard on April 9, 2021 at 10:50 am

Hey, great inspiring video. Gotta try those arm balances.
Only thing I miss is that you don’t emphasize warming up/stretching the wrists, since especially arm balances and handstands seem pretty hard on them. Or did I miss that part? Anyway thank you for the great input 🙂

  12. Godeta Alibaba on April 11, 2021 at 5:23 pm

This video is really well made and takes care of some of the most important aspects of calisthenics : staying safe and having fun.
I’ve been training for 2 years now doing mostly pull ups, push ups and dips, weighted or more advanced forms but I couldn’t get myself to start learning the handstand or even do a proper headstand because I was afraid of hurting myself and didn’t took the time to properly train it, you show some very simple ways to start from nothing and get better slowly while enjoying it and for that I thank you so much 👍

  13. Aleksandar Cermelj on April 21, 2021 at 11:15 pm

Beautifully done and beatufully explained. I’m more close to an intermiediate calisthenics (so I can do all squats listed and a decent number of upper body exercises you’ve shown) but I have problems with balancing headstands without the wall and those hands going backwards in the full planche position. I listened to your tips and I’m gonna incorporate them for this harder exercises cause I feel they will help a lot. Beautifully done and explained once more.

By Far the best Explainer / Tutorial So Far on the entire Youtube! All other do tend to become intimidating after a point. Really Really Helpful thank You So much Lucy!

  15. Mythic Channel Spotlight on June 8, 2021 at 7:10 am

This inspired me. You make it look so fun! I’ve been meaning to do calisthenics but that bit you said at the beginning about fun was soooo helpful!!

  16. Rachel Meadowcroft on June 9, 2021 at 11:57 pm

You have made these crazy positions look achievable and have given me so much inspiration! Thank you!

  17. Blade Lefusyn on June 18, 2021 at 4:02 pm

Haha, just discovered this and realized I used to do the Pistol squat (w/o momentum) for fun as a “party” trick of sorts back when I was in my early teens, because it was something unique not everyone could do. Now that I’m interested in calisthenics but unfortunately cannot pursue it, cool to know what I did back then is a part of what I did not know even existed, let alone as a form of strength training. 🤘🏼

  18. Eia Jorlene on July 13, 2021 at 12:10 pm

How do you know when your strength level is enough to begin trying these? I’m a complete beginner with zero upper body strength and I really want to be able to eventually do these movements but I’m afraid to start trying them out too soon and fall and hurt myself.

    • Kiana on January 13, 2022 at 2:04 am

You need to build your upper body strength! For me, I’ve started doing yoga. Yoga barely requires anything outside of a mat. I think it’s a great way to slowly build strength and flexibility using your own body weight without hurting yourself. Try it out!

  19. Omotola Adegoke on August 19, 2021 at 7:21 pm

This is fantastic, exactly what I was looking for!! I dunno how I missed this video of yours months ago despite keeping an eye out. Really love your channel btw, makes calisthenics so accessible! 😊

Could you do a video on tips for how to avoid injuries please, or is it just part of the territory? I’ve no issue in trying the untried, but I got little ppl to look after so could do with avoiding any injuries that could be avoided.

  20. P C on October 1, 2021 at 9:11 pm

Thanks! Just beginning this journey and already having a lot of fun! I always looked at handstand as something impossible but now after just few days of trying I think of next step after I will be able to handstand
My journey is not to lose weight but continue to stop smoking and till I continue sport it’s OK, like I can do everything ..!
Thank you I discover all this thanks to you!
