0:52 MTHFR and detox
3:35 Toxins in the environment
5:23 How to support detoxification
7:42 Learn more about the MTHFR enzyme!

Today we're going to talk about a common problem that affects your ability to detoxify chemicals and other toxins.

This problem involves the MTHFR gene, known as the detox gene. It's also involved in creating neurotransmitters and in hormonal regulation.

If you have a mutation or alternation with the MTHFR gene, you could lose 25% to 80% of the gene's function.

A loss of function of the MTHFR gene could lead to potential complications, including:
• Free radical damage
• Oxidation
• Inflammation
• Fibrosis
• Cirrhosis
• Insulin resistance
• Fatty liver
• Poor digestion
• Poor sleep
• Gallstones
• High cholesterol
• Backup of bile

Many chemicals in the environment are considered endocrine disrupters and estrogen disrupters, which may lead to various health concerns.

If you have a genetic mutation of the MTHFR gene, a typical detox won't help you very much. You have to have a very clean lifestyle. With this mutation, your liver could have a difficult time just getting rid of things like alcohol or caffeine.

But there are things you can do to help this gene work correctly. First off, you should avoid synthetic, enriched, and fortified foods and supplements.

The best things to support detoxification if you have a mutation of the MTHFR gene:
1. Methylfolate
2. Methylcobalamin
3. Choline
4. Natural B vitamin complex (nutritional yeast)
5. Magnesium (leafy greens)
6. Cruciferous vegetables

I just started taking a Tablespoon of All Natural Olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach. With a little lemon juice. It’s supposed to great for many things. Another great video 👍

    • Jenny on January 1, 2023 at 2:35 pm

Taking one spoon of olive oil with one spoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice diminished my appetite. I noticed this effect after one month of using it. I can no longer eat seconds of my favorite food. I can hardly finish the one portion. 👍😊

    • GodofWarChuka on January 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm

@Jenny That’s excellent. I started intermittent fasting on September 1st at 310 pounds, doing the 16/8’s. Quit Soda, energy drinks, etc. currently at 254. But now I’m adjusting my fast for awhile to 12-13 hours, because I’m breaking my fast around 7am with Olive oil / Lemon Combo. I’ve learned so much from Dr Berg, Dr Mandell, and other Channels. 👍

    • Jenny on January 1, 2023 at 11:03 pm

@GodofWarChuka, please let us know if olive oil and lemon juice affects you in the same way. I wish you continued positive progress in your health goals. 😊

@Dr. Eric Berg DC I’ve tried to post to you for years to let you know that taking choline also makes me sick. I have to take citicoline (CDP choline) because it is already converted for my body. Pls research citicoline? Thank you!

Great reminder to dial-in your supplements to avoid various degrees of toxicity. Quite a few manufacturers use cheap ingredients to skirt around labeling laws. Definitely going to scrutinize my list in 2023! Thanks Dr Berg & team for making a difference in so many lives!

    • DORA STEWARD on January 1, 2023 at 4:45 pm

Amen to that❣️I plan on doing the same! However, about 99.5 %
Of all my supplements I purchased from Dr.Eric Berg since I discovered him in 2015 and I am Soooo Grateful to God, that I was guided to him and his Amazing Staff💖🙏

    • Julie Butler on January 1, 2023 at 4:48 pm

I have researched the food sources of vits and mineral and eat those foods.

    • Pamela GH on January 1, 2023 at 7:07 pm

I would agree with you, however where do you find them?

    • Seattle Six on January 1, 2023 at 9:08 pm

@Pamela GH Dr Berg’s of course 😇 Amazon has an extensive list and I compare them with his formulas. Some things, like TUDCA, aren’t available from Dr Berg so currently I find a single item source and combine it with his gallbladder formula. I’m only six months into his healthy keto/IF plan and found that food sources reduce the need for supplements i.e. kale smoothies mixed with all sorts of nutrient rich foods eliminates the need for the trace mineral supplements. Having type 2 diabetes (in remission BTW), I emphasize B1/Benfotamine, D3+K2 and E looking now at Annatto seed (Achiote) for E, but 1Kg of seed yields ~36g of oil using supercritical CO2 extraction process (sorry for being drawn out I’m a science nerd) so it gets impractical to just use straight seeds (5-6g) to get the minimum 200mg of tocotrienols. I hope this helps a bit for your 2023 ❤️

    • Mike Peek on January 1, 2023 at 11:45 pm

      @Seattle Six excellent post.
Nerdy is ok with me . Very detailed info like this cuts thru any glossing over or generalizations about vitamin suppl possibly not being needed so much if the food source contains what you need or are deficient in.

    • jan smith on January 2, 2023 at 3:56 pm

Condolenced for your great loss. Look up ‘Caster oil” you rub on your belly. ONLY do this when you are not trying to have another baby as it can cause you to lose the baby if you are pregnant. this is a old school way for women to get their fallopian tubes cleaned and quickly help someone to get pregnant if they are having difficulty (no need for IVF in most cases). But, do your research on this.

I know Dr Berg has vids on caster oil (not for your issues) but, for healing. So take a look at those and also vids on above and articles.

      Wishing you a better 2023. take care.🌼💛🌼

Thank you! I’ve reintroduced Arugula yesterday afternoon and I think it’s working, I’m pretty sure based on this content! With a lot of garlic, healthy Keto and intermittent fasting I have finally been able to free my body of the bacterial overgrowth. Last night is when I felt relief in the evening for the first time in probably forever.

    • Dr. Eric Berg DC on January 1, 2023 at 4:34 pm

    • JasonKing on January 2, 2023 at 5:32 am

Does Arugula need to be organic?

  11. CapeCyn on January 1, 2023 at 4:31 pm

This is the most clear explanation of the MTHFR issue that I’ve seen and I’ve been going down that rabbit hole of late. I have a good feeling that I and my sisters and probably my mother (who has passed) have this genetic defect. I have the symptoms and would like to get tested.

I had mentioned last week in one of your videos about having a severe allergic reaction to a fortified nutritional yeast. Could this be the connection? The synthetic folic acid? I never have any reaction to non-fortified nutritional yeast. Thank you!! 🙏❤️

    • LiveYourLifeExtra on January 1, 2023 at 8:46 pm

What were the symptoms of your reaction? I has some symptoms once too and always wondered what caused it

    • CapeCyn on January 1, 2023 at 11:05 pm

@LiveYourLifeExtra moments after I ate it my face, head and neck turned bright red and hot as hell. It started to spread down my chest, back and arms in a bright red rash. I felt really weird and also felt like something was crushing my chest. It was quite scary. Others commented in the video that I posted this in that it could have been the niacin effect and while that is possible, I didn’t know about the possible connection with the MTHFR gene defect and inability to methylate. Very intriguing and food for thought…

    • LiveYourLifeExtra on January 2, 2023 at 5:33 am

@CapeCyn Oh no that sounds horrible. So sorry you went through that and found out about it the hard way. It would be nice to take something like a normal person and have zero reaction. I felt fatigued, weak, slight shortness of breath and also really weird and off. My stomach was also a bit nausious and I felt somewhat dehydrated, very low appetite, and just edgy enough to make me anxious. It lasted 2-4 hours. It seemed like drinking a bunch of water was the only thing that helped.

    • Lauraway2 on January 2, 2023 at 2:52 pm

To get tested just ask your doctor. It is a simple blood test. I have this genetic mutation. Had a phenomenal functional medical doctor who diagnosed me. Of course he retired and now I am on a search for a good doctor.

    • CapeCyn on January 2, 2023 at 4:37 pm

@LiveYourLifeExtra thank you. It was horrible. I was on the verge of going to the emergency room and remembered that we had liquid Benadryl for our dog. Historically I’ve not been able to take it because it knocks me out but I was desperate and slugged some down. In a little bit of time it helped bring me out of that crisis but I felt like crap for a few days after. It did save me a trip to the emergency room though so I’m thankful for that! 🙏

    • RacingWithParamotors on January 2, 2023 at 2:43 pm

Children are amazing, able to survive as they so while consuming baby formula and dog food trash like cereal and dry foods.

    • Susan on January 2, 2023 at 4:24 pm

@RacingWithParamotors unfortunately, bad habits forced upon them are catching up to their resiliency. Childhood obesity is epidemic, along with all its associated problems.

    • RacingWithParamotors on January 2, 2023 at 7:51 pm

@Susan Yes and not to mention digestive issues and misdiagnosis because of a diet consisting mostly of a base of unfiltered tap water mixed with weird lab created dry food creations that taste like crap (those who stick to fresh unmolested foods can tell easily) along with more weird lab created frozen food creations, and on and on seed oils everywhere I cannot believe it isn’t butter but an inflammatory industrial oil.

I find it odd, yet comforting that you can explain these symptoms, conditions and problems in such a way that non-medical people can easily understand. In a similar way, I’m amazed that none of my medical care personnel appear to have any inkling whatsoever about any of this. They are quite content (and adamant about it) to prescribe the same old ineffective drugs that have been around for years, and don’t want to consider another point of view. I’m very thankful for you, Dr. Berg, that you take the time to teach us and give us some hope, while the medical “experts” only want to insure we keep taking their drugs (and lining their pockets with big pharma’s bribes).

  19. L C on January 2, 2023 at 5:53 pm

Got the mutation. Have been working for years on proper diet, proper supplements, proper liver care. Everyone needs to either get tested or start a good self care routine that supports methylation and the liver. This mutation is so common and can cause many health problems but a person can do so much to help themselves if they implement these basic suggestions from Dr Berg.

  20. Mollie Evans on January 2, 2023 at 5:55 pm

I would love to have a link for the supplements he recommends!
