Let’s talk about the term GRAS (generally recognized as safe). GRAS applies to chemicals that are in our environment and food.
GRAS implies that the chemical is regulated and has been through a lot of safety studies. However, the FDA allows companies to self-certify their chemicals as safe.
There are about 10,000 chemicals in our food supply, and 99% of them have not been reviewed for safety.
GRAS is more of a loophole that companies use to imply that their chemicals are safe despite outside testing.
Six chemicals that are generally recognized as safe:
• Help preserve meat
• Increase shelf life
• Increase the risk of cancer
• Could be in your drinking water
• A preservative
• An endocrine disruptor
• A carcinogen

4. Potassium bromide:
• A dough conditioner used in many flour products
• A carcinogen
• Can inhibit iodine
5. Brominated vegetable oil:

• Can affect your memory
• Can interfere with iodine
6. Titanium dioxide
• Gives candy a smooth texture and brightens colors
• Can cause DNA damage
• Increases cancer risk
• A heavy metal
Our bodies have the ability to get rid of a lot of these poisons if we don’t consume too many.
However, some people have a problem with their detoxification genes. This means that they have a lessened ability to get rid of these poisons.
The best thing to do is to try to avoid these chemicals and consume foods that support the detoxification process, like cruciferous vegetables.

congrats. i started IF 3 weeks ago as well and been using potassium citrate 2k mg a day and glycine -2 tiny scoops a day and doing a liquid fast but i do have a couple small oranges in the evening and 1/2 meal once a week. no scale so cant weigh myself til i see my dr next but i feel a huge difference. no cravings and not hungry. i do take NAC at night too. good luck keep going. u got this!!

Thank you. The LOOP HOLES I hate most are “NATURAL FLAVORS” AND “ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS” in the ingredients label. Why don’t they have to tell us what those “flavors” actually are?
The scary part is that most of this has come onto the scene in the last 80 years. We have zero idea what the long term effects of it will be. All so they can pad their back pockets with cash.
Artificial flavors is the better option, Natural flavors is a marketing scheme.
@J L I just went to the Vitamin Shoppe and several supplements and powders had the “natural flavor” label. Literally almost every single product has it 😂.
That’s why regular detox is a must . Theres no way most people can eat clean 100% even the so-called “organic” came with a lot of stuffs we have zero knowledge about.
I’ve eaten over 14 months 💯 % clean via supporting my local farm and butcher shop by going strict carnivore.

@Veronica Scott Sure. Blanket complaining about chemicals in food as a whole is rediculous because food is chemicals. People who can’t understand the basic concept that they themselves are made of chemicals, generally aren’t capable of understanding what and why certain chemicals are actually harmful in ones diet.
Edit: One of the very few examples actually given was titanium.
Make sure you guys know that most of these toxins/indsutrial-byproducts are fat soluble: so that makes obesity even more of a concern.

Unfortunately these preservatives are all over our foods. That’s why keto is such a bless: in a sense that people make their own bread and desserts at home, and can control the ingredients. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 🌸

Well actually no. Unless you are making many of the ingredients for that bread or food, you are not in control, they are. You are just limiting what they have made. But good on you for being discerning.
Grow your own nuts, beans, etc., and grind them just before using,

I have been dealing with these issues for years and I know that all these chemicals are disrupting our entire bodies. I’m 63 and have been researching issues like this for years, reading labels. Most people have likely thought that I am crazy! There are a lot of foods I won’t eat … I am allergic to wheat products so that limits so many things. These chemicals like MSG derivatives and Titanium Dioxide are the worst for anyone… all the meats in fast food and at in dining restaurants are usually full of these toxins you mentioned. We need to research, plan our meals , and prepare our foods in a healthier manner than our ancestors! It takes some time and effort but your body will thank you and you will feel better without all the additives. Frankly it should be better regulated but look at what all they allow Big Pharma to put out on medications.
So there really is no true regulation on anything!!

Unfortunately organic prices are not the best so buying local if possible and supporting the right people continue to grow healthy food is the answer. I just wish healthy alternatives more affordable and easily accessible…. so try even growing your own veggies if you need to! Get your eggs from a reliable sources even if it is more expensive. Know what you are consuming and see how much better you feel.

I’ve lived in Europe now for almost four years and am shocked at how many chemicals are banned here but not the US. Anyone traveling from here to the US will also tell you that the one thing we have in common is lots of belly aches after eating in the US. Plus the sugar content in foods in the states is unbelievable compared to Europe.
Yeah American priorities are completely out of whack. It’s economic growth at ANY cost. These polluting and poisoning co’s need their profits protected.
And then, me living in Europe, I‘m still p***ed off at what is allowed to be added here in Europe, that is already far too much!!

I learned all about bromine many years ago when my wife had Hashimoto’s, hyper-thyroid, a small tumor on her pineal gland and a huge fibroid tumor on her uterus. She was ice cold all the time and skinny as a rail as she took the doctor prescribed synthetic thyroid medication. Her condition worsened until she was bed ridden a majority of the time. Out of desperation I started studying these conditions and found iodine and its huge importance in the body. I spent a month researching and found 2 doctors who wrote a book on iodine, Dr. Brownstein and Dr. Abraham. There is also another iodine expert Dr. Flechas. I became convinced that she had a severe iodine deficiency despite her being very “allergic” to shellfish and the application of iodine to her skin. I wondered how she could be allergic to something that is so important to the body ? When you are iodine deficient the body gets desperate for it. Since bromine sits right next to it on the periodic table of elements it attaches itself to the iodine binding sites in the thyroid. She agreed that she would take iodine tablets and titrate to bowel tolerance to see if her thyroid would release the bromine and allow the iodine to replace it. I did this too. We went to the doctors and told them what our plan was. They said no and did not want anything to do with what I had come up with. They agreed to take a battery of tests before we embarked on my plan. Long story short after a few days of “large” doses of iodine you could literally smell the bromine coming out in your urine. In 2 months my wife regained all her weight back, the fibroid disappeared along with the tumor on her pineal. When we went back to the doctors they were astonished and took a follow up battery of tests. They said her results looked like someone who was never sick in the first place !!! She never took her medication during the iodine therapy and has never had her symptoms return all these years later. Unfortunately most medical professionals I relay this story to reply with a “whatever” or similar response and aren’t interested.

Wait, so you’re saying bromine had attached to the iodine binding sites and therefore she couldn’t absorb iodine?
@Zoe Exactly. Iodine, bromine, chlorine, and fluorine all sit next to each other in the Halogen group on the periodic table. The thyroid needs to fill those binding sites and will grab what fits even if it isn’t a perfect match. Once the thyroid sees real iodine in sufficient amounts it releases the imposter and fills itself with the real deal. Iodine is critical to human health. So critical in fact that every cell in the body has a binding site for it. 😇
