Today, we’re going to talk about kidney health. A big myth is that potassium is bad for the kidneys, but this isn't true! Our bodies require 4700 mg of potassium each day. The only time you’d want to avoid potassium is if you have advanced-stage kidney disease.

Potassium protects kidney health in several ways. It helps lower high blood pressure, which damages the kidneys and protects against kidney stones. Too much sodium can be hard on the kidneys, but the remedy is more potassium.

Many factors can contribute to kidney damage, including the following:
•High sugar consumption
•Alcohol
•NSAIDs
•Certain medications
•Pesticides
•Heavy metals
•Food dyes
•Phosphorus from soda

A proper diet with adequate vitamin D, potassium, and magnesium can significantly improve kidney health.

The following foods protect the kidneys from damage and support kidney health:
1. Vegetables: asparagus, celery, bell peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic
2. Magnesium-rich foods: pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, avocadoes, magnesium glycinate
3. Probiotic-foods: kefir, yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi
4. Moderate amounts of high-quality protein
5. High-antioxidant foods: strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, beets
6. Quercetin: onions
7. Extra virgin olive oil

Consuming tea is a great way to stay hydrated and support kidney health. Polyphenols found in tea are very beneficial for the kidney. Green, nettle, dandelion, turmeric, and decaffeinated black tea are all great options.

Frequent eating can overtax the kidneys' filtration system. A low-carb diet and intermittent fasting are very beneficial for kidney health. Intermittent fasting can decrease the stress on the kidneys and significantly reduce insulin. Too much insulin can be damaging to the kidneys.

I was diagnosed on 16th of October with stage 4 kidney failure (egfr 22 -UK). Told I needed bilateral nephrostomies and a bladder stone removed. I have had no treatment, no follow up. No advice just what I have managed to research online. I feel like I was put in a lifeboat with my diagnosis and have been cast adrift. It’s a very scary/worrying time.
This video gives me so much excellent advice. Thank you.

Dr Berg, your free education on good health is second to none. I’m from the UK, found out about your health information by accident during the COVID period where my health took a deep dive. Pre diabetes; unstable blood pressure, Respiratory issues sudden weight gain, all at once. Never had a sweet tooth, was doing intermittent fasting without knowing anything about it as I always skipped breakfast. Could bear any food in the morning. Never a big eater or snacked. I learnt so much by following your advise and still do. Lost the new weight but really slow. Aches and pains improved so much. Amazingly my excess production of tartar in my teeth gone completely. I realised I must have been vit D3 deficient and high cortisol due to sustained work related stress. I take 10 thousand IU daily and increase it when during the cold and flu periods. I took your cortisol vit and now your electrolytes due to recent sustained headaches whilst doing OMAD. Headaches much improved. My whole family, grand children, their friends and relatives and anyone I hear is having metabolic and inflammation issues. My brother reversed his diabetes too. May God bless you and your family for your kindness in educating the world and waking us up from so much bad main stream medical advise. Ramadan is around the corner so looking forward to not only the spiritual benefits but also the benefits of dry fast between sunrise and sunset. Will be praying for you Inshallah ( God willing). ❤❤❤❤

I was able to improve kidney function with diet. The main idea is to reduce sugar/carbs, limit foods that stress kidneys, and nourish your body with essential vitamins. Light exercise like yoga helps too.

I got an acute kidney injury from taking advil, a NSAID similar to ibuprofen. I went from stage 3 on the verge of stage 4 CKD down to stage 2 in about 30 days. I avoided coffee, dairy, foods rich in potassium, sodium, phosphorus, and limited sugar. I had 1 green smoothie a day made mostly of greens, 1tbsp of flax seed oil for omega 3, and a handful of frozen berries (low sugar) for taste. I could not handle spinach because of potassium (I would feel pressure in my kidneys) but arugula was no problem.

For calories I did roasted veggies with quinoa, no salt. Pureed soups like beet soup with potatoes, again no salt or dairy. Sprinkled in a lot of nutritional yeast (high in b12, folate, essential vitamins) in my dishes to help with red blood cell production to manage my anemia symptoms. Through out the day also drinking water infused with lemon and ginger, and dandelion tea. So far so good. No more nausea, no headaches, less fluid retention, no more rapid heart rate, no more aches in my kidneys, overall more energy. I’m just relieved I was able to recover from the injury and make fast progress with healing. Diet plays a huge role.

PI will give it a try. I was fasting & doing keto .I went on a egg fast and was drinking 3 cups of coffee daily. When the kidneys started hurting. I thought uti but was told no uti twice.I do not take any medication. However I was told to take smooth move daily while on keto.I have always suffered constipation. I would switch to dulcolax here & there .Also was doing ACV 2 times a day.Unsure if that was the issue but stopped both laxantes.Stopped keto I was fearful 😰 I started cornsilk tea which has helped with pain.Cut back on coffee, slowly trying to get back on keto.I haven’t gone back to see a doctor. I will give the vegetable and advice a try.I was taking magnesium citrate here and there will have to start again.I will forever prefer natural over pharmaceuticals.
I am truly grateful to you Dr.Berg you are a life saver.Thank you ❤️
