Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes patches of hair loss on the scalp. This is also sometimes a side effect of other autoimmune diseases, like Hashimoto’s or lupus.

Trace minerals are minerals needed in tiny amounts and have profound effects on the body. Related to hair loss, trace minerals can potentially help prevent and treat autoimmune diseases and help build up hair protein.

The best trace minerals for alopecia:
1. Iodine (200 mcg per day)
The best sources:
• Seafood
• Sea salt
• Sea kelp or seaweed

2. Zinc (50 mg per day)
The best sources:

• Seafood
• Beef liver
• Eggs

3. Selenium (50 to 200 mcg per day)
The best source:
• Brazil nuts (one per day)

Other important nutrients for hair loss:
• Iron
• Vitamin B12
• Vitamin D
• Biotin
• Folate

My hair used to fall out quite rapidly (male hereditary baldness, typically starts at 20-25 in my family) but then I started taking gummi-sweet type supplements
(biotin + selenium + zinc with added vitamin b,c,d) and the problem stopped within a week.
Once every week I cover my hair in egg yolk and olive oil for 30 minutes and then wash it out in warm-ish water…thats it. No shampoo.

No additional hairloss ever since and most grew back. 36 now and I have roughly 95% of what I had when I was 19 (pre balding)

I also use bovine collagen powder every day. I’m not sure if its related but ill just throw that in there too.

Another great informative video. Whenever I complain to my Dr about losing excessive amounts of hair, he increases my iodine and adds selenium for 2-3 months and problem is fixed, until the next time. I think it’s stress causing my deficiencies.

When I was stationed on Adak Alaska. I only got to see 2 weeks of sunlight in 12 months. I started to get small bald spots 6 months into my deployment. The base doctors had no idea what caused my hair loss. When I left the island and started to get sunlight my hair came back.

    • Cassandra Chestnut on May 23, 2023 at 11:25 am

this is the problem with medical doctors today. they don’t consider obvious issues like lack of sun or diet & nutrition and lifestyle.

He just had a video about making sure you had copper along with the zinc so we should put that in as well, especially for autoimmune disease.

I had this @ age 32, dermatologist said I needed steroid shots under scalp which I refused, used omegas 3,5,6,7,9, B12 sublingual and my hair came back, I tested this with 3 other people who had the same bald spots and it worked. We all had excessive stress due to different issues, some work, divorce and family issues, but vitamins Do work

    • Kai Be on May 23, 2023 at 11:46 am

Try to avoid omega 6 in large amounts, it’s actually really bad for you.

    • Jennifer Slambert on May 23, 2023 at 12:06 pm

@Kai Be Where do you get all the Omega, s?

    • Deanna Blue on May 23, 2023 at 1:20 pm

My son had this as well, was told the same for steroid shots by dermatologist. We went another route and New Zealand Cow and/or Goat Colostrum always grows back any of his spots if they even begin to develop.

I lost 1/3rd of my hair after Covid last spring and summer. My nutrition was great but COVID killed off my hair follicles. In August, I increased my protein intake w whey protein a few x a week and collagen peptides every other day and I add 5 grams of Leucine to both. I am 60 yr old woman and had always had full shiny hair but now it is regrowing and the new hair is about 3 inches long. Also a lot of toothpastes now are really bad!

    • Cleocatra on May 23, 2023 at 1:15 pm

My son had hair thinning a lot after covid I’m currently giving him all these nutrients.

    • Zoe on May 23, 2023 at 1:33 pm

Same! I had excessive hair loss after covid. My aunt who is a hair dresser confirmed that she had many clients who showed hair loss after covid. I took a hair supplement and they were back.

  14. Rick Gallo on May 23, 2023 at 11:46 am

I had two crop circles on the back of my head….and one in my right eyebrow. Switched diets, started eating only meat, eggs, cheese. Within a month, my crop circles disappeared. As well – bloating, mind fog, acid reflux disappeared as well. Iodine in my water was also something I embraced.

Wanted to add, other reasons for hair loss include:
    Iron deficiency
    Magnesium deficiency
Omega 3 deficiency (hair may be dry, possibly brittle)
Thyroid levels that are not optimal
    Good luck!
