Today, I want to cover the symptoms of a vitamin B6 deficiency you may have never heard of before.

“They” say it’s rare to become deficient in vitamin B6. However, it’s possible to have a subclinical B6 deficiency that still affects your well-being, even if it’s not a full-blown vitamin B6 deficiency.

Vitamin B6 is important to support a healthy body. Typically, there are no side effects of taking vitamin B6 if you take less than 200 mg daily.

If you take too much vitamin B6, you could experience toxicity effects. However, you would have to consume over 1000 mg of vitamin B6 per day to cause any issues.

Foods rich in vitamin B6 are:
• Beef
• Pork
• Fish
• Chicken

It’s pretty well-known that if you have low vitamin B6, you may experience symptoms, including:
• Rashes around the nose
• Cracks or rashes around the mouth
• Pink eye
• Anemia
• Neurological problems
• Numbness in the hands and feet
• Depression

Surprising symptoms of a vitamin B6 deficiency:
1. Inflammation (especially gut inflammation)
2. Inability to control polyunsaturated fatty acids
3. Deficiencies in neurotransmitters
4. Inability to convert ALA to DHA
5. Poor selenium function
6. Inability to convert tryptophan to niacin
7. Alopecia
8. Seizures
9. High homocysteine levels
10. Increased risk of autism
11. Increased risk of gut pathogens

Causes of vitamin B6 deficiency:
• Processed foods
• Diuretics
• Blood pressure medications
• Antibiotics
• Birth control pills
• Alcohol
• Pregnancy or lactation
• Smoking
• Herbicides
• Ginkgo biloba

I can always remember having weird things happening to me when I was young that no one else got. Made me think i was crazy or going insane so I would never tell anyone but as I have aged and grown more in my knowledge and as I get older. All they were was just having deficiencies, when you’re a kid you knew no better. Everyday a school day, always learning.

    • @WarriorsPhoto on November 14, 2023 at 7:34 pm

Yes I felt the same way.
My mother would right it off as me being a child. But now that I have began to study health. I can see what was going on. Hopefully this’ll help you be a better parent and watch what’s going on with your family. 😊

  7. @mekman4 on November 14, 2023 at 12:56 pm

I did eat a lot of fish, daily with my OMAD, but I didn’t have much luck in reversing some symptoms until I started consuming Kefir! I’m really glad you pushed for that! Thank you!

    • @Youcandoanythingyoudream on November 14, 2023 at 3:31 pm

Kefir is the bombdiggity, a cup or two a day every day and its basically a script of antidepressants, minus the negative evil stuff. Lmbo so not anything like antidepressants other than the name. But Kefir helps my anxiety and energy, all of that. I actually found for me, it works immediately upon consuming. Some they notice it after days, weeks, or a month or so. But a cup or two a day, sometimes even less if you want to make it last and still get the good bacteria in your system, and you are on the road to delicious creamy tangy goodness of health. lol

  8. @SunraeSkatimunggr on November 14, 2023 at 1:21 pm

Holy Cow, the symptoms you stated at the beginning of this video are all symptoms I had as a child…around 9-11, including the depression!!! I am now 67 and trying desperately to heal my body from my prior life, and so much of the damage happened in childhood. I tried to eat healthy as an adult, but things like probiotics where not even talked about, let alone the bad advice like eating no butter, and only whole wheat. Then, poverty has its own set of issues.

    • @helenevion5948 on November 16, 2023 at 7:01 pm

Yes. You may want to locate a few caring farmers/gardeners to get foods from. Or contribute to get foods in exchange?

Dr. Berg, thank you for your daily videos. I now watch 1-3 videos every am while having my am coffee. I ordered a probiotic supplement from you for my mother who has suffered from gut issues/diarrhea for 2 years now. 🤞 that she gets some relief.

    • @Youcandoanythingyoudream on November 14, 2023 at 3:28 pm

OO have you ever tried Kefir? You can make your own too it takes a day. Even make it out of storebought Kefir by mixing milk in with some of the pre bought Kefir. It is good stuff.. Tangy, delicious, calcium vitamin d etc. I am sure it would be better with actual raw unprocessed milk, or goat milk, etc. But still full of pro and at least the grassfed organic brand said pro and prebiotics. The grassfed one I tried did not work as well oddly. And was less tangy, more thick and creamy. But yea.

    • @helenevion5948 on November 16, 2023 at 7:06 pm

Great 👍 Dr Berg’s videos /articles on gut issues /diarrhea may also help.

I would really like an explanation of the relationship between Morton’s toe and the body’s inability to metabolise B6. My serum B6 levels are high in blood tests, but I believe there is a disconnect between serum and tissue levels. Particularly as I was not supplementing with B6 at the time.

I had horrible eczema starting in the mid 1990s. I am now sure it was from a disrupted microbiome, probably due to the Roundup (glyphosate) that began to be used heavily on conventional crops about that time. When I finally switched to organic my skin cleared up and I haven’t had any since. B6 would have been good to know about as well. I now supplement the B vitamins.

    • @pamelatimbush3762 on November 14, 2023 at 8:39 pm

      That’s great!
I have a jug of Roundup for ground clear and have been thinking of getting rid of it because of all the bad reports on it, and I don’t want to hurt my elderly dog 13yrs (initially I got it to get rid of horrible goat heads and nettle). I wonder if my old friend would have the same relief as you if she did the B6 🤔 poor woman has horrible eczema/psoriasis on her hands.
You know I wonder since Dr. Berg mentioned it helps with seizures if it would help people’s pet’s that suffer with seizures? 🤔
Thankfully my furbaby doesn’t, but I would hope it would help other folks who have pets that do!
I have been helped with B1 for leg/feet cramps so I guess I will add B6 for added benefits.
      Again happy for you 👏😊

    • @dotjeffhoepner4543 on November 15, 2023 at 12:20 am

@@pamelatimbush3762 I would get rid of the Roundup if only to help keep your dog safe. I found nettle growing in my flower garden and have been harvesting it as a medicinal. It’s great for allergies and so much more!

  16. @fitfogey on November 14, 2023 at 9:36 pm

This man saved my life. I had debilitating neuropathy before I watched his previous video on B vitamin supplementation. It was literally lightning strikes out of no where usually in the middle of the night under my right arm and/or right foot. I was dumbfounded as to the cause. Couldn’t sleep and really bad quality of life issue. I stopped the proton pump inhibitors (prilosec) and all alcohol and immediately sought a doctor’s advice and was dreadfully low in B vitamins after a blood test. Was prescribed B vitamin shots and then started B vitamin supplementation as well. The neuropathy completely went away. I would never had done this without Dr. Berg.

    • @Drberg on November 15, 2023 at 4:34 pm

Wonderful! So glad to hear that!

    • @carokat1111 on December 30, 2023 at 7:56 am

As someone who has just been diagnosed with B6 toxicity from ingesting just 50mg B6 daily (half the allowed level) – it was hidden in my magnesium supplement – take care with how much B6 you take. Toxicity is just as bad as depleted levels for neuropathy and other symptoms.

  17. @katefish3754 on November 15, 2023 at 3:47 am

Amazing. I think this issue was pivotal in my health issues that started with vegetarianism & menstruating ( about 8th grade). I believe I ate too many processed foods. Developed some depression even though I’m not the type that I would say gets depressed

  19. @LaurieliaXanadu on November 22, 2023 at 5:58 am

My very first diet doctor that I ever went to, Dr Porter in South Jersey prescribed all of his patients to take B6 because he said it was a natural water pill or diuretic. I’ve not stopped taking it since. It helps me tremendously when I feel bloated the week before my period as well as a supplement called Aloelax.

  20. @emeraldbrown692 on December 28, 2023 at 4:39 pm

I love all Dr. bergs videos. I have been dealing with what they want to call “long C”, me and my 3 children. I’m sure I’m deficient in so many vitamins. It’s very overwhelming to know which vitamins to take and not to take so many because they can interact. It’s hard to find a good doctor like him that can guide me through especially with my insurance. I’m planning to go back to a keto diet but knowing which vitamins to supplement with is the hard part. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
