@W M because when you poison yourself On a daily basis, your body Tries to adapt. But it can’t completely adapt without a sound nutrition so when you go to eating good food and nourishing yourself internally, your body understands the difference and therefore knows it’s been poisoned

    • Teala on April 16, 2022 at 8:14 pm

he never was fit so he has more of a chance to have dementia then Biden. old is old and you can only extend your life with proper nutrition and exercise but you also have to exercise your brain.

    • Teala on April 16, 2022 at 8:16 pm

@Violett Fem i never said i supported any thin Biden does. All these politicians suck..

    • Wong Yvonne on May 17, 2022 at 8:54 am

Very clear explanation. Thx. However, I have problems with wordings like they are not presence, they are not themselves anymore at the last stage. I have taken care my dementia mum for sixteen years. My mum died last year. She was herself all the time but she has gone through stages of anxiety, especially she felt so insecure that she became another person in her early stage. She even developed illusion in her early stage. Gradually, with lots of works, she regained her security and stability though she had lost most of her memory of things. She did feel those who were close to her and dear to her at her late stage.

I truly thought I had a touch of dementia when I realized I was going through perimenopause. But, things are turning around, as I am post-menopausal now. Thank God! Great informative video!

I’m 6 months to go until I’m “officially menopausal.” I have these symptoms— was Hopi g it was just peri menopause. So stressed about this.

    • Amanda Reid on April 1, 2022 at 5:35 pm

Yes exactly! I had to really simplify my life and work on being present more than ever during the peri phase. Things would get really overwhelming, then I would forget things, get stressed about it then it would spiral as I got upset with myself. I have had to change my work, reduce commitments and the amount of choices I need to make on a daily basis and I’m enjoying life more again now in the post phase. Wishing you all well. Thank you Doc for your wonderful work.

It can also be menopause , lack of sleep , slow thyroid or hormonal imbalance or poor digestion . It is not always dementia .

@Pleiades Luciernaga synthroid is T4 and cytomel is T3. I used to take Armour but when it got impossible to get it from the pharmacy for weeks or even humana couldn’t get it, I had to switch back to synthroid which not covered by my insurance. I have a feeling something was happening to Armour abity to produce the thyroxine or natural meds because the pharmaceutical companies want yu to take their synthetics.

    • Pleiades Luciernaga on September 25, 2022 at 2:53 am

@Life is Sweet yep, same here.I switched to Naturethroid and feel like it’s on par with Amor. All of the synthetics made me feel like poo.
The price is very reasonable for Naturethroid. Highly recommend trying Good RX to save $.
And there was indeed an issue with Armor last year. I recall Goodgling it, but can’t recall what it was. I think there was a contamination issue.

I am 86 years old. Forgetting a few things is perfectly normal at any age. Yes, I go upstairs to do something, get distracted, do something else. Not the worst thing that can happen ( unless I was going to the bathroom).
I have an active life to lead. Worrying about all what might be as I get older is counterproductive and likely to induce just those problems. Nothing you can really do anyway.
My advice? Get on with your life. Keep active. Do those things you enjoy and stop worrying.

What I hope is to keep my spirits up and happy a d keep looking forward, finding things to do and get my to do’s done. When I go for a yearly checkup m6 doctor depresses me because at 75 she thinks and tells me I am old. At 69 40 year old men asked me out. I am very active and do manual labor outside lots of it. She bri gs me down a d I get depressed for a few days and start to think its hopeless. I think its sad that my doctor cannot leave me to feel good and project this outward. I forget names once in awhile always have she said probably because your 75!

  8. Amy Walker on March 7, 2022 at 7:51 pm

Very good presentation. I think keeping active, involved and productive are very important to maintain brain function as well as avoiding greasy, high calorie or sweets that tend to clog arteries and contribute to neuronal tangles. It’s hard because we have devices to do everything for us, we sit too much and our culture surrounds us with the absolute worst food choices we’ve come to think are healthy foods.

  9. bigguy130 on March 8, 2022 at 10:04 am

I recall hearing about a person(friend of a friend) who thought he had early dementia or alzheimer’s(in his 40’s), turned out he had 5 mercury(silver) fillings for decades and had significant improvement after safely removing the mercury fillings and going through a mercury detox program(and general heavy metal detox) over the course of a year. So he believed that the mercury was causing brain fog. He also noticed a reduction in anxiety and depression which he believed the mercury was causing.

    • Glenn Henshaw on April 4, 2022 at 6:32 pm

@Gabriella Grace Of course Mercury is toxic to the body and brain. I never said it wasn’t. But fillings that perhaps have some mercury in them do not raise the mercury levels in the blood. So the fillings are not harmful.

    • The Tae Kwon Doe on June 27, 2022 at 6:02 am

      @Glenn Henshaw Dentist?

    • Glenn Henshaw on June 28, 2022 at 7:57 pm

@The Tae Kwon Doe No but I was paranoid about this when I was a kid. I asked my dentist.

    • Life is Sweet on July 1, 2022 at 9:26 pm

I can tell if my thyroid meds are inadequate because I get brain fog and tired and gain a few pounds. I have only 1/2 thyroid so I have lab work every 6 months. The thyroid controls everything.

    • Wanda Rogaczewski on August 13, 2022 at 9:56 pm

Wow thats really interesting to know, I had quite a lot of silver fillings but have had those teeth removed I would like to have known this way back when I first got them. Thank you. 👍

My wife was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s about 18 months ago. Her planning function is gone and her personality is changing / has changed. As frustrating as that is for me, I remember that is her dementia talking to me but I’m still talking to the love of my life.

    • The Big Picture on August 11, 2022 at 3:56 pm

Dementia isn’t a terrible way to go as you can get a childlike appreciation of life.

    • A Foxy Fox on September 3, 2022 at 3:41 pm

In what ways has her personality seemed to change?

    • Don Kemp on September 6, 2022 at 12:57 am

@A Foxy Fox she has never had a mean bone in her body. Now, she is short-tempered, easily angered, makes comments about kicking me in my jewels, etc. Tonight, we were sitting with family including our 2 month old grandson who I was holding. She commented she never gets to hold him, so I delivered him to her. 10 minutes later she asks if I want to take him. 10 minutes after that, she was saying she never gets to hold him. It seems to be worse later in the day, when we are with people, and if she has had a glass of wine.

    • Patsy Stone on September 9, 2022 at 3:51 am

Lost my husband to Alzheimer’s 12 years ago. He was not that old which made it worse. My heart goes out to you. It’s quite a challenge. In the end I prayed God would take him quickly. Enjoy every day with your wife while you can and take care of yourself.

When we first heard that my grandmother was losing it mentally, my other family members were arguing over whether it was true or not. But I noticed that her manner of walking had changed completely. She seemed to be standing up straighter, which doesn’t sound bad, but she was also super stiff and took much shorter steps. And this happened within just a couple of months. Now I always notice the way old people walk.

    • Just Jen on April 28, 2022 at 5:49 pm

jeffw1267 Has she seen a neurologist? You are describing some hallmark symptoms of what might be Parkinson’s.

    • Life is Sweet on July 1, 2022 at 9:11 pm

I injured my Back moving heavy plants in 2018 and have two herniated disc’s down low. They cause pain, balance issues and sometimes sciatica. Yes I stand differently when in pain, Gmab. Also walk more carefully too when my back flares up. Im 72 and mg husband is 80. We are both still normally active, live in a big city and have to drive all over. I use GPS if not familiar with an address. I’m retired but my husband is still in the insurance business which requires an alert mind. Injuries to back and knees happen at any age. Don’t label it dementia for heavens sake. On the other hand, dementia patients can experience posture or gait problems with no prior injury. That’s what’s important. No injury.

    • Heidi Chung on August 25, 2022 at 1:20 pm

I agree with JustJen. My uncle was first diagnosed with dementia but after further testing, it turned out to be Parkinson’s. I would ask the doctors to do further testing. Does your Grandma seem to drool or have difficulty swallowing?

I am turning 70 in one month. This talk is wonderful because I know I am changing but am not considered by my regular physician, friends and family to be moving into dementia. They don’t know what I am truly experiencing and how I am compensating for the loss of my brain function. From this video on the various stages I can identify my level of decline. For one thing it is not a straight line but I am experiencing various symptoms that mix/ between the different levels. This is going to give me a way to truly explain to the doctor and family where my level is and not be considered a black and white dementia or none dementia. I know the symptoms I am having and am now going to start a journal of my actions/losses and the dates. Thank you so much for giving me a useful tool to document my decline to discuss it with the doctor.

    • Wayne on March 27, 2022 at 12:14 am

My mother was in a poor state, but got her BMI down to the recommended level by having large breakfasts, small lunches and no dinner (it took about 8 months). Following the WAHLS Protocol diet (no refined carbs, lots of fresh vegetables and fish/chicken). Her memory and completion has improved dramatically during that time.

  15. Michele A SantaMaria on April 1, 2022 at 11:50 pm

Lipitor seriously affected my memory and caused me to lose my job. Alzheimer’s runs in my family and at the age of 58 I was sure I was losing it. You could tell me something ten times and I still wouldn’t remember it. I knew there was something wrong with my brain. About 5 mos later I was reading through the literature that comes with medication. Rarely, it said, in small print, it could cause memory problems. I quit taking it immediately and within a week I felt the fog lifting. I feel like there has been permanent memory issues but the difference I feel not taking it is incredible. I was terrified I was losing my mind. My cardiologist told me he has seen this in older patients but never in someone my age. He asked me if he could interest me in another statin. I told him I’d rather have a heart attack than go through that again.

    • Tommy Zeus on April 9, 2022 at 5:18 pm

Research has shown that statins increase the risk for the onset of Alzheimer’s.

I stopped crestor because of reports it causes dementia!! My endocrinologist even said he heard that too. It’s because the lipitor/crestor reduces cholesterol everywhere even the brain. Our brains need the cholesterol. What a situation. No one in Our family had had dementia til my mom. She was on crestor from her 40s on til 85. No thank you. If ripped the waxy cholesterol right outa her brain. The article said we need that in our brain to think straight. Depends on the person I guess.

Dad lost ability to read music, then read text, had loss of smell, became stooped, could no longer see due to brain dysfunction, yet retained a lot of understanding and feelings if people took the time to talk to him or gave him instructions and waited for him to respond. He was still in there and retained emotional connection to the end.

I spend way too much time alone..not conversing with anyone..So many mistakes..I appreciate your thorough presentation and the hope it generates for those of us slipping without realizing it. My first inclination now is to buy a simple math book to refresh my skills there..Many Thanks and keep on suggesting…
