Who can afford all these tests? I have, I think fairly good insurance but don’t know how far they go with these seemingly specialized tests.
My issue after 3-plus years of keto and 5-plus years (including keto) of very-low-carb, is that I seem to be perpetually in a high state of gluconeogenesis. I _have to_ eat nearly zero carb (I’m high protein, because I’m trying to preserve muscle mass at 60) to keep my blood sugar under 110 or 120, even moderately fasted. If I add even a small amount of “healthy carbs” I seem to fill up my glycogen reserves and run between 120 and 130 at odd times (several hours after eating.)
I’m wondering if reading the Atkins book for clues on adding back healthy carbs will help. After Jason Fung actually endorsed it, I’m thinking about Lumen, but there are many detractors, and I don’t particularly like being told what to eat spur of the moment. I’ve been trying to eat a lot of low-carb salads lately (with a generous wild salmon portion), and it’s not working for me.
I lost a lot of weight with -low carb- keto and fasting, but I think too much of it was muscle (possibly because I wasn’t doing resistance training), which is why I went high-protein. I gained aback about 20% of what I lost, but I’m much healthier aside from blood sugar, and I seem to be leaning out (and losing fat again, but mostly because I do whole-day and two- or three-day fasts most weekends.)
I’m a bit baffled at this point.

After i was diagnosed with pre diabetes i came to realise that how incredibly hard it is to find low carbonhydrate food in a normal grocery store where i live, no wonder we hawe this “epidemic” of this type of medical issues among people here… It was not so in the 70-80s here.
If you buy natural food you don’t have this problem. Eat fresh!
@@chloeuntrau4588 I fully agree on that, but i just can’t find it where i live, and there are not many local farmers still around and those who are still around here can’t realy process food on their own farm for sale anymore. It was still in the 80s, i am not going into politics here, but but since the early 90s practicaly all small farms who could did dissapear in my country unfortunately. Now it is just monoculters of grain growing anywhere, but i can’t eat that much grain anymore because of medical reasons.
Great advice I learned a long time ago: When shopping at a grocery store, stick to the outer walls only.

The authorities give such advice as though they take for granted that we want to maintain the addiction/downregulation of our insulin (and dopamine) receptors, rather than solve it. In the same vein that one would advise a recovering alcoholic to take the occasional sip of grog to quell the withdrawals. Much love Sten, your work is greatly appreciated.

One thing that didn’t get mentioned that is destroying health in America is the problem of ultra-processed seed oils. Soy, canola, palm, etc etc – are basically oxidized industrial waste that might actually be worse than sugar in our diet.
It’s way worse than sugar.. so is high fructose corn syrup!
I decided to make use of those oils for their intended purpose the other day: I applied it to some squeaky door hinges!
Didn’t realize it at the time, but when I was eating it, it was a major contributor to my heartburn.
